Very disappointed to read this. The PS4 version of Tomb Raider outsold the Xbox One version by a large margin and this is the thanks we get?!? I hate this aspect of video games. Hate. It.

If its a full exclusive and not timed, i can wait until it drops o 19.99 or less.

The weird thing is that I dont really see Tomb Raider as a system seller.

Wait it's a full exclusive?

Insane. Tomb Raider shipped almost 7m units, I would be surprised if even 2m were on the 360. They Xbox One is doing appreciably worse than the 360 so Microsoft will have to make up the difference. That's a lot of money.

On the back of a fag packet I would say around $125m has changed hands. Probably more.

Crazy for a game that won't help push units.

This is wild!

Lifelong TR fan, never thought it would go exclusive. It'll be time to get the system for this. Holy goodness, I can't imagine how much they spent!

Dont worry guys, Crystal Dynamics is protecting the Xbox community, just like they wanted you to protect Lara Croft.

Completely stupid, everybody know it will eventually show up on PS4 and PC. Nobody will get a XOne because of Tomb Raider.

MS keeps wasting money.

Crystal Dynamics better have got a huge check to make up for the tons of sales they just lost.

This is honestly exactly how I feel nut at least Microsoft is trying and not sitting on their ass. I will still pick up The Temple of Osiris for PC but this news is definitely wtf for me too.

The sequel to a reboot that didn't sell as expected on 3 platforms is now an exclusive for the console that isn't selling as expected.

Sounds like Square Enix/Microsoft all right.

This kinda makes me feel a little better actually. The is exclusive, so maybe it means there is no chance Ms gets fallout or anything else major.

It's probably 100% exclusive as long as it sells X number of copies. If it doesn't reach that number then microsoft will have to pay up or it will be released on more platforms.

Yo, real talk.

FUCK you, Square and Microsoft.

Yeah, I'm salty. This is the kind of anti-consumer bullshit these assholes love to get up to.

Better be timed.

Don't really care about TR, but I do have to agree that paying lots of money to take something away from gamers rather than use that to build a new franchise is really some bullshit.

I do have an Xbox One but I just have no interest whatsoever to play TR on Xbox One.
PC or nothing for multiplatform games. Unfortunate, I really loved Tomb Raider 2013.

Well, I guess you can't have it all.

That was mulitplat though on last gen hardware. It might be popular, but the install base at that point was huge on consoles. I'd like to see the numbers they pulled on the HD version of the latest TR. That might give you a better idea of how well it would sell.

Over 7mil sold including def edition if the MS guy on stage is to be believed.

What would happen if the Xbox continues to sell badly (specially in Europe/Rest of the world)?

I hope we hear no complaints from SE later on how they are losing money.

Good god the PS bias on this forum is sickening. Constant jibes about 900p 30fps, shot themselves in the foot etc... etc...

Is there anywhere on GAF where adults share their opinion rather than angsty teenagers with a severe brand loyalty delusion?

If I get an Xbox One. I might pick this up, at budget price. Or if it comes to PS4/PC later, I might pick it up, at budget price. If it was PS4, I probably would've caved and bought for full price day one, but Square-Enix, if you don't want my money...

How ironic XD! A franchise famous for being on PlayStation now being Xbox Exclusive....and said exclusive is more or less trying to copy the Uncharted formula that Uncharted itself inspired by from Tomb Raider.....damn circle effect man :D.

Still, while this does suck for those who just got into the series (notiby those getting into the series with the PS4 Definitive Edition) from a business perspective, this makes perfect sense.

Tomb Raider now is a lot like Uncharted, so the fact Microsoft lacks its own Uncharted makes this being exclusive all the more logical; now they 'have' an Uncharted to combat UC4.

I wonder though if this move as also brought about by Microsoft helping out this games development ala Titianfall. Square did say they threw to much money at the first one, so Microsoft covering some of the cost for the sequel does make sense in this case :).

Again, this is what worries me about the direction of this industry. Microsoft are in it to win, and willing to throw billions at whoever in the short term.

Once they win, and they will win, and Sony leaves this business... All I can say is that a lot of people who want MS "competing" to "keep Sony on their toes" are going to miss the PS2 Sony dominance days.

Because once Microsoft acquires the monopoly, nobody will be able to stand up to them. Nobody. The barrier of entry will be too high.

Dont forget, MS is a business bigger then xbox, they are there to make money. And they are losing terrain to apple and google. I dont think the high up ms execs, will allow the xbox division to spend millions upon millions and still earn no money with it in the long run.

Wow...like I def did not expect to see this news. Glad I'm not all that huge on Tomb Raider. Guaranteed it'll end up on the PC and PS4 at some point anyway. Still, seems like a really dumb idea alienating a large portion of the user based when you are a third party studio and publisher.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it'll end up on PC and PS4 too, but you don't alienate yout fanbase like that, it's like killing your own franchise, especially after a big reboot. It makes no sense.
