Rise of the Tomb Raider timed Xbox exclusive for Holiday 2015 (No PS/PC, SE publish)

Guyz, Square Enix can use these dozens of millions of dollars Microsoft paid them on the development of Final Fantasy XV.

Thanks, Microsoft, you just helped FFXV come out in 2021 instead of 2025.

Exclusively... on Xbox One console!

LOL. Hilariously dumb move for Square Enix.

These types of exclusive are pathetic. I'd be pissed at Sony if they did the same thing.

Tomb Raider is a game i can live without, so i'm not exactly hugely bothered by this, but what a damn slap in the face to the fanbase.

Trying to position Tomb Raider as the AAA competitor to Uncharted, eh? Makes sense, making a game exclusive lends them some mystical fanboy aura they will likely try to exploit.

Good god the PS bias on this forum is sickening. Constant jibes about 900p 30fps, shot themselves in the foot etc... etc...

Is there anywhere on GAF where adults share their opinion rather than angsty teenagers with a severe brand loyalty delusion?

I don't think it's PS bias at all, at least not the majority (and a lot of PC users are rightly venting as well). A lot of frustration just comes from people who aren't fans of third party exclusives, especially in the case of Tomb Raider.

Exactly what I dreaded happening - instead of building new games and their own first party stuff, Microsoft are just going to buy exclusives to the detriment of everyone.

If they get the next Mass Effect or Bioshock game I will be incredibly, incredibly unhappy.

You mean like how Mass Effect and Bioshock started out on Xbox 360, and were initially 360 exclusives?

Wow that's crazy - I had assumed timed from Phil's wording too. Ya still wonder if Square's gonna find a way around this - just seems too strange a move in this day and age.

Not a huge hit for me personally, but def a bold move by MS.

This strikes me as an odd move by Microsoft. I honestly don't see Tomb Raider moving that many consoles. Hope it works out for them, but it just seems like a bad move.

If this is full exclusive, that had to be one hell of a check from MS. The PC version and ps3/ps4 versions sold a ton, cutting out all of that is a lot of lost sales.

Yeah we will see for how long. I have an X1 by my son's request and I won't buy it until I can get it on pc.

I wanted to dominate the living room. Then I took an ESRAM in the knee.
I have an XBO, so I am not affected, but they should use the money to make new games instead of taking existing games away from millions of gamers. Guess buying exclusivity takes far less time than making own good games, and they need some sellers right now.

Of course it's about profitability. Microsoft is a business, not a spiteful child -- if it didn't think that preventing a multiplatform release of the game for Q4 2015 would be a viable business strategy, this thread wouldn't exist.

It's a dumb business move by Square, I don't see why people would say it's dumb on Microsoft's part.

It'd be hard to believe this is anything other than a timed exclusive from a business perspective no matter what UK journalists are saying.

but hey maybe MS locked it down.

will people really buy a console for tomb raider?

Over 7mil sold including def edition if the MS guy on stage is to be believed.

That's total though right, split between 2 releases, 4 consoles, and the PC version. Still popular, but SE has handicapped themselves here by making it exclusive to one console. They might have gotten a huge chunk of cash, but that isn't going to save them if they can't deliver on the games they are currently and have been developing for some time.

I don't mind exclusives, but I do mind it when a multiplatform games sequel goes exclusive. This is extremely shitty even if I'm not personally all that interested in this specific game.

It's a fucked up business strategy: Let's not create original content, instead let's pay companies for not publishing their content on other platforms.

I loved the TB reboot - on PC 1080/60. I have no interested wahtsoever in that shitty 900p/barely30FPS version we'll see on XB1. And I sure as hell wouldn't buy me into this game for 500 Dollar. It's a complete fuck up and a joke.

What the hell, there are enough other games on it. I hope MS makes a big loss on this move, because it's a fucked up one.

Ms could easy buy that as well . Ms has money.. SE and Sony does not.

Oh man, don't say that honestly, I'll probably feel sick and cry if that happened, ha ha. (Even though I have an X1), I want to play KH3 in the best way, and thats on PS4.

This is such a huge fucking slap in the face for fans across all systems. If the series had been exclusive for some ridiculous amount of time I could see this making sense, but this is seriously fucked. If this ever comes to PS4 or PC down the road I am giving them a big middle finger.

LMAO what a dick move by every party involved. That line about the other games being available on PC and PS4 is just hilarious.

Boo. I'm not super upset as this would only have been a $10-15 purchase on Steam a year after release or something, but still, pretty crappy.
