Rise of the Tomb Raider timed Xbox exclusive for Holiday 2015 (No PS/PC, SE publish)

Dead rising was an exclusive before the multiplat sequel. third one isn't exclusive anymore anyway.

Nope. There was the poor Wii port. I had heard that they wanted to port the original DR to ps3 but they had problems with the coding or something. Apparently they'd have to rewrite all the code to port the game. I have no source or don't know how true that is but I remember reading it.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
So Konami was not going to make a new Silent Hill for this gen? No way. You know that. They made a fucking Silent Hill for the Vita even. A Silent Hill for this gen was always going to happen.

Either way, I am not upset about either exclusive. It is business I understand that. Sony would be smart to money hat the next Silent Hill. Super smart.

I just find it funny people are upset about one and not the other and are looking for ways to justify that.

Was Silent Hill announced as exclusive?

How do you know ?. Square already bitched about the fact the first one didn't sell enough and didnt meet their expectations. Do you 100% know that Square would have made the game by themselves if not for MS helping them ??.

There are several IPs like Just Cause, Neir, Sleeping Dogs sitting dormant even though they were loved by fans. Tombraider is not a block buster must have for Square. It very well could be MS answer to Uncharted. Rather than them blocking Square.

Well, for one thing based on its port to current gen -- hey, a lot like Tomb Raider -- Sleeping Dogs is almost certainly getting a sequel and Tomb Raider sold quite a bit more than Nier, so I'm not sure about either of those comparisons.

It just doesn't seem likely that this game was begun because of Microsoft, because if the exclusivity deal were a part of the reason for its existence then that certainly would have been announced when the game was, like with Bayonetta 2's official reveal. Perhaps SE did get in way over their heads with regards to the budget on Tomb Raider -- or quite possibly, with FF15 or something similar -- and they appreciated the fast cash infusion, but I really don't find it believable at all that the exclusivity deal was in place when the game was first announced and Microsoft didn't shout it in the middle of every single interview during E3.

It would have been the most shocking announcement of E3. Hands down. You don't wait several months for something like this unless there isn't paperwork in place.

I'm not sure we can really say that Silent Hill was "announced" yet.

edit: Oh, I see Kagari has confirmed that TR's budget was not the issue.

I said "If". As in hypothetical.

And here I am thinking Microsoft dropping off a pile of cash in front of CD = Microsoft funding CD

It's the same equation. Input cash, output exclusivity. Sony and Microsoft just go about it different ways. Microsoft prefers to rent. Sony prefers to buy.

It's not even kind of the same thing, what are you even saying?

Are you serious?
Tomb Raider is a household brand. It has spawned multiple big budget movies with A list stars, and merchandise.
How is going to Microsoft and limiting the player base going to give them more exposure?
Ok, TR is already a household name which was reignited after the reboot but the idea remains, the marketing push that MS can give is still strong compared to what SE could do alone. And, again, I don't think the game to be permanently exclusive, it will be on other platforms on a couple of month after the name Rise of the Tomb Raider is in the head of gamers. I think the goal of SE is to position Tomb Raider as a serious competitor to Uncharted and a MS partnership will help them to do that.

Konami has been in shitter for past gen they just want make MGS games as it only console game selling well for them. It not out realm fantasy no Silent Hill was going be made and series was pretty much dead.

Also possible Sony funded a re launch of series due to it starting on PSOne. We have no clue at moment reason people not up in arms is because silent hill not fully announced with full PR explaining its release plans

The weird thing about this is that it might kill the franchise for another 5+ years.

S-E already was disappointed with the original doing 4 million +. Interested to see how well this actually does on just the bone and then with a really late port on PS4 and PC.

What month was it that the XB1 did so poorly in sales that MS gave more money to EA for Titanfall? Hmm.

It was September last year so before the consoles launched but when the preorders were pretty bad for Xbox One. Also rumours going around that it was a timed exclusive or was their a time later where Microsoft gave more money?

as exclusive and partnering the marketing with MS they have more chances to get brand recognition. Just think how much popular would be Ryse if it was publisher on all platforms by Deep Silver marketing machine. This is a long term investment yo build the brand and nothing stops SE to release the game on other platforms once the exclusicity is over. If the game is good PS4 users will buy it, maybe except those who sign the petition that included a boicot.

The TR will get more recognition only from Xbox crowd. And delayed games do not sell that well, So they're losing brand recognition from PC and PS crowd.

Was it? Man time goes by fast.

Would we at least agree that even if they were't competing before, MS may be attempting to foster such a competition?

I don't think that's clear. Who knows if any other TR games will be exclusive in any way on Xbox and I wouldn't be surprised if they are just trying to get any game they can and it just happened to be TR this time.

so what happens if this thing bombs on the xbone? whos to blame? MS for paying for the title or SE for being stupid and making it exclusive?

Doubtful since Crystal Dynamics PR statement was pretty much telling PS4/PC users to buy their other Tomb Raider games that's coming out soon... good move on their part.

Now, can anyone actually say MS doesn't need to fire their entire marketing department? They somehow manage to turn grabbing a big name exclusive into a confusing mess of PR speak and nonsense. Good job MS

The fact that this announcement has generated so much discussion suggests to me it was a smart decision. It's obviously a popular title.

I guess this is kind of a shock to people like it was back in the late 1990s when Tomb Raider 2 skipped Sega Saturn. At least for PS4/PC owners this is only a timed exclusive, isn't it? In that sense may as well sit tight and see if its a good game.
it's very negative though...and I doubt it leads to what MS wants, more Xbone sells.

Also, is it confirmed by insiders this is timed? if so, I can take my leave thank you...

Still going to check out the first Tomb Raider now though, It bored me to tears the first couple hours. Have to give it a second chance because so many people say it's good.

Seems like a rip-off of Uncharted without the polish to story, which is Ironic because Uncharted was coined the "dude Raider" lol...

Circles...

anyway, Kagari or any1, did they leave indirect hints that PS4/PC owners will be fine by just waiting or is the speculation that's timed purely from the words used in the announcements and tweets?

I believe bish posted earlier, but it's timed, yes.

Sucks for people with PS4s who were excited for this game, but goes to show how out of touch a lot of Gaffers are when they proclaim that studios like EA wouldn't have signed an exclusivity deal with if they had known about the Xbox One's troubles prior to launch.

Anything can happen, people. Strangely enough, it seems like the Xbox One is still receiving more exclusive support from developers, even though their sales results aren't nearly as good as Sony's.

TR is not somethng that I would run out and buy a console just for. Sony and Nintendo included.

Hardcore TR fans rejoice i guess.

Dear MS, moneyhat Shemune III. If you r going to spend money on silly things, least be it something useful.

Bingo, sans the "smart" part. I'm not totally convinced on that but man has it generated an incredible amount of response, and MUCH more interest and chatter around the game then there would have been otherwise.
