Is Hideo Kojima Hollywood now?

Bronetta

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
First he replaced his iconic voice actor with Kiefer Sutherland, a famous action star.

Now he's working with Guillermo Del Toro and Norman Reedus who is a well respected director and another prominent actor, respectively.

Has Kojima finally gotten his wish of going Hollywood?

Why are you reading my tag instead of the title of my post?
Guillermo del Toro get his wish of being able to make a video game. Kojima gets to work with del Toro. Reedus gets to do something beside TWD. And we the people who play video games get to see it all unfold.

Yeah but I don't think it matters as long as he can still include all of the crazy stuff that makes his games unique like what we saw in the gameplay yesterday.

Kojima did quite a lot of pleasant surprises the past 2 days. Silent Hill reveal and box trailer using PS4 / Steam icons.

At least you can talk. Who are you?

his hollywood obsession is what turned him into a hack.

He can stay there for all I care.

Somewhat/ Del Toro has had an interest in games forever and Reedus' career, outside of TWD, hasn't been much to write home about. But they're stepsin the right direction if that's his goal.

Do we know how much Guillermo del Toro is involved in the whole Silent Hill thing?

I mean he's for instance the executive producer or creative consultant in pretty much every DreamWorks Animation film even though he doesn't really contribute much to them besides lending his name.

Was talking with my friend about something similar a month ago.
Its obvious this guy wants to make movies Imo. Well thats the impression I get from watching his long ass trailers and the "directed by Kojima" stamp on most of them.
Its only a matter of time before he throws out one of his screenplays (Yes I believe he has secretly written some stuff) at Hollywood.

Always found it interesting how Kojima talks about how much he's influenced by films, and you can see that influence in his games, and we praise him.

David Cage is very much in the same boat, though his games aren't as good (however, I wouldn't call them bad), and he gets absolutely shit on.

Kojima's game design is far more interesting than Cage's.

Really all there is to it.

You can skip the cutscenes in mgs and still have a really good game.

Metal Gear solid gameplay vs Cage's gameplay.
Snatcher and Policenauts writing vs Cage writing
Amount of cutscenes in most games bar MGS4 vs Entire game being cutscens and qtes

So yeah, not the exact same philosophy, before we even touch results

Poor Hayter. It's just like he never existed.

It hurts. I'll let it ride though and take Big Boss older as reasoning for the voice change and that MGS4 was the end of Solid Snake. Now if he made a New MGS that takes place after 4 with Snake alive with a new VO then I'll have a reason to be mad.

Cage is a worse writer and his games have nothing compelling in the way of gameplay. Cage's problem isn't the type of games he makes, it's that he's terrible at making them.

Kojima also happen to be genius game designer, his movie obsession just add on top of his already great game.

That said, I think Cage are also great in what he does, the emotion he can pull out of me in his game like Heavy Rain are still very powerful to me.

He's always been trying to push together film and gaming, since the very beginning. That was the big advancement that Metal Gear Solid made on PS1.

At least he's not trying to replace gaming with film. Key difference. He still heavily emphasizes gameplay, and shows entire demos of just cardboard boxes with multiple functions. You'd never see a demo like that from Naughty Dog.

Yeah he probably always wanted to be that but he never neglected his work of game desgner, unlike Cage who make shit games that look like shit movies.

Agreed. Uncharted or The Order are much more "Hollywood" actually most AAA games are these days.

I can't help but be a bit offput by this trend as well but ultimately the new engine requires both voice acting as well as actual mocap acting....my gripe with this assertion is Big boss still has a different cosmetic model than the mocapped Sutherland but I digress (they are still mocapping his facial expressions funnily enough). As a creator Kojima fully has the privilege to change and do what he feels creatively stimulating/appro pos for his "evolution" of the franchise and as a mgs fan who has yet to be dissapointed by his work, I'm excited if he is.

I'm still salty on Hayter being thrown to the diamond dogs, though.
