Smash Bros. 3DS Japanese Packaging POSSIBLY Indicates Snake is cut from the game

There's a flaw in the logic here:

Notice the package never credits Sega here, despite being confiremd. Copyright notices are only for the characters appearing/possibly appearing on thepackage.

Look again.

I'm not saying it's likely he'll return. I just think it's weird that Sakurai supposedly isn't bringing him back in Smash 4 even though Kojima is okay with it and with Snake being such a big character that would attract many fans to the game again.

Fair enough. I don't mind if he's back but I don't think it's likely either. DLC is a possibility as a guest character again but I wonder if the game will even have DLC.

Also about Konami not being on the credited on the back of the box, I don't think is as much about that as it is more about them not visually showing Snake for advertising at the back of the game's box.

They would be stupid not to do DLC. I'm pretty sure the Smash community is all for adding more characters.

Some people are being very petty about this.

I'd personally like to see him return. I only played him a few times myself, but it's never fun to see a unique moveset go away. Plus being able to play as Snake in a fighting game is cool.

My sympathies Snake fans. It sucks to have your favorite character cut, especially when it's one with a unique moveset that you'll not find anywhere else. I really feel like he should have been kept; even if Konami hasn't provided much recent support for Nintendo, people still will miss Snake.
You would take picku, ivysaur, squirtle, or roy, over solid fucking snake?

I can't.
I'd take Ivysaur or Squirtle.

OMG no Intelligent Systems copyright, Marth and Roy don't exist in Melee

Both Marth and Roy were unlockable characters not on the box.

Snake being an unlockable does not make sense. Nintendo would want to promote him in order to help drive sales, and Konami would want to make sure he's on the box somewhere to promote the MGS series as well.

Every other 3rd party character has been announced already. I want Snake back too, but its time to give up the dream.

Snake in WiiU version, 3DS version patched for Snake same day as WiiU, BELIEVE

They need some sort of star power to promote the WiiU version! Some surprises to keep the hype flowing!

Its sad if he has gone, plus he had one of thr best stages with the ray in the background. Compared to say olimar who plays bad and had a awful stage

I did like his stage a lot. It was an awesome stage.

I'm a fan of items in Smash, and even I am tired of the stages that completely mess up the battle in the middle of it.

Bring back Hyrule castle though, or whatever stage that was in Smash 64!

Maybe they want to give more focus to the new ones, we have no idea what Nintendo or Sakurai thinks, the only thing that I'm saying is that the absence of Konami copyright in the box proves nothing.

Sakurai has stated they will consider DLC after the game is finished but I wouldn't be surprised if there are no DLC characters.

I never really cared for Snake as a Smash Bros character, so I don't see it as that big of a loss really. What's worse though, is the lack of Konami in the credits means for sure Simon Belmont won't be in either. :(

Ah, but you can see why Nintendo would probably not want to promote anything of Konami when they haven't released anything or developing anything for Wii U as of present.

As much I want Snake back in all honesty the writing was on the wall he wasn't gonna be back =/

Good point. It sucks but it's likely the case.

Honestly is there any reason why this character should use the Cypher as her recovery move?
I love Advance Wars, but I don't want Sami to inherit Snake's moveset for several reasons, even if he is cut.

For one, it just doesn't seem fitting for Advance Wars. I always thought if an AW character got in, a sort of summon or pet character archetype would be more fitting, in which the character could summon units to aid in battle. Well, that's the gist of it basically, dunno how it'd work. Eitherway, Snake's moveset is more designed around being patient and sneaky in laying your traps and also camping to get the advantage. That really screams MGS to me. Isn't the reason Snake is so heavy in Smash is because MGS has heavy controls, as well?

I also don't think it'd be a good substitute for Snake, unless the moveset isn't tweaked much, but I can't imagine Sami being heavy, powerful and slow. Advance Wars deserves better than a borrowed moveset, anyway.

Technically he was an unlockable in Brawl.

To be fair, how often do we even get MGS games in general? The 3DS port was fine.

Also, I haven't seen any of you answer the other posters. Where has Mega Man been?
I'm not talking MGS games, I'm talking any games at all. Metal Gear, Castlevania, Silent Hill, Pro Evo, Powapuro, Bemani, Yu-Gi-Oh, etc. None if it's on Wii U and barely anything's on 3DS either. Not to mention Konami killed Hudson, who was previously one of Nintendo's most loyal 3rd party publishers.

Capcom, Sega and Bandai Namco each support 3DS and Wii U as well as can be expected.

All I can think of when considering Capcom on 3DS/Wii U are the Monster Hunter, Resident Evil franchises and the Street Fighter 4 Port. (Plus the VC titles too I guess).

I'll give you Sega and Bandai Namco though. To be fair, Konami still supports the 3DS so it's not like they're completely abandoning Nintendo.

I don't get the "Doesn't fit" argument. It's not like Kirby, Fox, Zero Suit Samus, and Mario fit together. Smash is a crossover with a bunch of franchises that don't fit together. That's part of the fun of Smash.

I'm pretty content that he's not back. Considering how expensive Kiefer is and MGSV is coming to everything but the Wii U, it's makes no sense to have him return.

So it's like Fox grabbing to his Arwing as his recovery, I get it.
I never played Advance Wars but I'm absolutely certain that whoever wants Sami to take Snake's moveset didn't either. It's just... Such a bad fucking idea.

Still trying to bring sense to Smash Bros decisions olololololololololololololol

I remember one time (pre-Brawl) I did the same exact argument saying that Samus and Pikachu have nothing in common, and one responded "If you're a fan you can see the obvious Nintendo trait in the design".
Let it go, they don't like him and have a cheap excuse to back up their arguments. Simple as that.

"I don't actually know what I'm talking about, but I'm going to assume that I'm right"

OK, do Advance Wars characters grab to their copters instead of going into them to pilot them or not? If they do, I'll take that back, I swear. Do they?
Also, as an Advance Wars fan, would you really be OK with its only rep to be a clone of a third party cut character? Like, really, would you?

lol what the fuck does that even mean?

I also don't like the idea of an Advance War character inheriting Snake's moveset. Snake's moveset was made to fit Snake, not an advance wars character. I don't think Sakurai would just copy paste Snake's moveset into another character just changing aesthetically. I would also rather have whichever AW character gets in to feel like a AW character. Copying the moveset would be a disservice to both Snake and the hypothetical Advance Wars character.

Don't see why Snake should be in. It doesn't benefit Nintendo in any way at all.

Yes it does. It would bring playstation fans to entice them to purchase a nintendo system just for smash. I remember during Brawl days I overheard guys at my Best Buy saying they bought a Wii and Brawl JUST for Snake.

I love, love, love when people act like unofficial speculation is 100% confirmation of something. It's seriously one of the most hilarious things to watch because it is guaranteed to happen every time.

I still don't understand if that's confirmed to be the packaging. If it is, well, it's not looking good for Snake.
If it's just promotional stuff, it doesn't mean shit.
