HELP! What PS4 Headset Should I Buy?

I'm flush $200 more dollars than I had expected after selling a bunch of games I no longer play. I know the PS4 Destiny Bundle comes with a headset but I have the money now to buy a sexier one.

MicrophoneGAF...help!

I'd like to keep it under $250. There's plenty to pick from at the local EB and Future Shop but your input would be welcome.

Notes to note...

I have a big head.
I'm fine with the kind that covers my ears.
Just looking for excellent quality sound both output and input.
Looking for sturdy / long-lasting

Get those white Sony Gold headphones which should be out around the same time as the destiny bundle.

Work great on PS4 and PS3 with virtual surround wirelessly; you can use them with the included cable on vita or Xbox one (with the stereo headset adapter); and they work wirelessly on PC too (default is stereo but razer have drivers that support virtual surround on there too)

Right now, Amazon Prime, $79. Very hard to beat for the price. They are comfortable, good battery life, from what I'm told by my friends the microphone sounds good - they're great.

Yeah, I got em for $79 on amazon and they're pretty nice.

If you do get them, and you hear static sometimes, you just have to turn off one of the chat settings. I forget what it was exactly, but something like pressing both sides of the sound/chat button for a few seconds or such. Then no more feedback static.

Pulse Elites are better than Gold in sound quality and mic quality. Gold has much better batter life and don't break easily.

I have had my Elites for over a year and would not trade down to Golds. I would wait for the next iteration of the Elites if you can.

God damn it.

I've been trying to get these from Amazon for weeks now but they never send to Denmark.

A pair costs about 130-160 USD over here.

Tell me about it, roughly the same price here in Australia and after using a mail forwarder it comes out to be almost the same price.

Get the Gold headset. It really is good. I love it and I have not used the speaker system since I got them. Highly recommended.

I have Astro A40s and they're good, but I just ordered the Gold headset a few days ago because I got lucky with some rebates and they were about $25 total. I like the idea of using game-specific sound profiles so I hope I like them when they arrive.

Another vote for the Golds. They are a really good headset for the price, and they are also the most versatile headset I have ever owned. Having one headset that I can use on pretty much everything is really amazing.

I use some Sony PS Vita branded earbuds ordered off Amazon for 11 bucks. They have an inline mic with mute switch, and the audio quality works perfectly for my purposes. If I'm wearing them, it's because I'm chatting in a party so the game audio is already coming in fairly low. No complaints about mic quality from friends.

I've looked at the Golds, and I don't doubt for a moment that they're an excellent product (and good value for what you get). My friend uses them himself and has nothing but good to say about them. I just really can't stand over-the-ear headphones for any extended length of time. I know many feel the same way about earbuds. I've never really had true surround sound, either coming from speakers or in headphones, so no first-hand experience with what I'm missing. Ignorance is bliss I suppose!

I loved the first headset they made but I lost the god damn USB dongle so it was basically useless after that.

Guess I'm going full price then. I need these things. Turning up the volume on the TV doesn't do it for me.

If microphone quality is important, avoid the Golds. If you're just looking for solid stereo sound and simple-setup wireless convenience, though, they're a good value.

This. Anyone saying the microphone sounds great must have very low standards. It's a great headset, especially for the price, but that microphone is every bit as shitty as the one on the dongle that comes with the console. Any slight move you make comes through, including the 'clack' of your analog sticks. The voice quality isn't terrible, but there are way better headsets on the market for your price range.

Alas, since you've already bought the Gold, I won't waste time listing them. I hope the golds work out for you. :)

Edit: Whoops, that wasn't the OP that said they bought the golds based on comments here. My mistake!

Hopefully they do a proper revision of the Pulse Elites one day. I only started using it more often after fixing it up with hot glue and modifying the headbands to make it more comfortable.

Yeah, I had to fix the headbands too. I'd probably be day 1 on an Elite revision

Astro A50s here and I can recommend them if they're in your budget. Upgraded from turtle beach px5 and happy with the performance and mic.

Got the sony gold on amazon like 2 months ago for $80. Really good price imo. Havent tried any other kind for ps4 besides the earbud that comes with the system so I cant really compare but I would recommend sony gold.

Save yourself some money and get the Sony Gold's. You can sometimes find them for less than $100

They're on sale for $60 here in Toronto. Very much worth it at that price.

I'm near toronto and I'd be tempted to do that but I have a strange dislike for wireless headsets. I hate the idea that the headset can die and have to be plugged in.

For anyone knowledgable on the subject of headsets, I currently have a sharkoon xtatic pro and it's giving me a really annoying problem. Each channel, front, rear, center and sub can be adjusted independently. When you set rear and front to same level, sound like wind or running water or anything constant, produces an EXTREMELY annoying distortion that sounds like the wind is coming through a large metal tube or some kind of robot voice mod. The only way that seems to fix it is to have rear or front significantly quieter than the other which leads to not being able to hear anything behind you, or everything in front of you sounding too quiet. It makes no sense to have it be where looking straight at a waterfall is almost dead silent but you turn your back and its a deafening roar .... I don't know how to fix it and nowhere else online have I seen anyone have this problem. Everything's hooked up right too, the manual's really good quality colored pics etc. Every game has it's own sound problems with this headset and I've even been considering getting a new one because of all these little problems.

I got some golds for $90, and there was a rebate for $50. Hopefully I'm not TOO late on that. In any case, great headphones, and you can use 'em on a PC wirelessly with ease or any device that has a headphone jack.

Microphone quality really isn't great on them, but it does definitely get the job done.

Philips Fidelio X1 Koss ProDJ200 would be a good alternative
VModa BoomPro mic

Edit: Ahh for some reason I was under the impression they were $150 :p

Trust no one. Eat steaks.
Man, you'd be hard pressed to find a decent set of headphones in Aussie for less than $140ish USD ($150AUD) so that $80 deal for the Golds sounds great.

I'm in Australia. I went to the third party list on amazon and picked the cheapest that shipped internationally. Ended up being 90USD. I got them last week. They're nice ;)

Sony Gold are great in every way.
They just work. I use them for my PS4, PS3, Xbox360 and PC. Just take that little USB device and plug it in and it works. No syncing/paring or anything.
Not audiophile sound quality but for the price better than I expected.

I heard it also works on PC and PS3.

Does all game audio go through them on PC and PS3 or does only the mic work?

I can't speak to the PC, but on PS3 you can get all audio though them. Great for late night gaming sessions when you don't want to wake anyone else up.

I would go for a nice pair of headphones + ModMic 4.0 since it allows you to use the headphone for both gaming and listening to music.

If you choose to go the above route the Audio Technica M50 as a nice entry level pair of headphones (They are on sale under $100 pretty frequently) and I used the Beyerdynamic Custom One Pros for gaming for a while (They are very comfortable but sound is just ok IMO). There are tons of options so you need to put in the effort to research what is going to match your personal taste.

Otherwise any of the dedicated headsets like Sony Gold's, Astro's, Turtle Beach suffice for most people.
