I wonder how people would react if we had seen this roster beforehand, like at E3 two years ago.

"They kept Lucario but cut Pokemon Trainer and didn't bring back Mewtwo? Fake."

"Bowser Jr makes sense, but Rosalina? No way this is real."

"Why do Zelda and Sheik have different roster spots? Sakurai has never done that before, I can't imagine he'd start now."

"Toon Link is in but Wolf is cut? Lol no."

Would've been nice to get it right before Meta Knight's reveal.

I always like that when people have a problem with a leak others always assume it is because of the roster. My main beef is actually with the look. When we saw the game at E3 I assumed the character selection screen was a placeholder for E3, so if that look was kept for the final game I'd be somewhat disappointed. Sakurai games have nice menu design but that selection screen looks proper drab.
I'd agree, the 3DS select screen is really lacking. And I was just wondering for the sake of fun lol. I'd love to go back to NSider forums after the first Brawl trailer and see everyone's reactions when I told them ROB was playable.

Watch it, when the game releases in Japan and Yoshi isn't in between other Mario characters, I bet Beelzebufo is going to claim he never said that Yoshi wasn't considered its own series in the Smash Bros. series.

I don't think there's room for anyone beyond the DLC characters.

The "full leak" might be unreliable. Those supposedly DLC characters might be unlockable, for all we know. I'm just considering all options. Still, admittedly the roster + DLC alternative is the most likely if we're to believe everything.

Didn't the game come out early on accident due to some stores being negligent about release date? There was evidence to believe leaks to be true due to that and as time went on, people posted pictures of decent to high quality. Even the first leaked photos with Greninja and Hawlucha, albeit low quality, were plentiful and had screenshots of different aspects of the game from overworld to battle screen to their status screen.

Meanwhile, this Smash leak only shows character portraits, a menu screen, and the character select screen, some of the easiest things to make a convincing fake. Again, nothing of actual gameplay is shown nor additional modes or features that Sakurai has hinted at that haven't been released yet are even being mentioned. Also, the whole context of how these leakers were able to obtain copies via ESRB sounds really gimmicky to me. I'm unconvinced that an employee would take low quality screenshots and take to sites like 4chan/GameFAQs and blatantly claim the copies were for ESRB ratings. Why would an actual employee give any insight on how they obtained the game if it was in relation to their job? Also going so far as displaying the name ESRB008 or whatever, that just makes no sense as it pretty much lets ESRB know that someone under their company was responsible for the leak. They would be eventually tracked down and penalties would be given. I don't think doing something like this is worth losing your job over.

In my opinion, a real leaker with a legitimate copy of the game would provide more than what's been given to us instead of being insanely cryptic, only revealing the character roster in typical Smash leaker fashion, low quality photos of the character roster and a bullshit story of how they got the game.
The pokemon pics he's referring to came before the broken street date

Also, a real leaker would probably be under an NDA and thus WOULDN'T want to post too much for fear of retribution

There's at least one in-combat shot and a post-match screen from the third leaker. Up in the air if those are legitimate or not though.

It's just tiring to see people go "WELL WHERE'S THE IN-GAME SCREENS?" and there's already one here.

I don't know if I can say the source in fear of being banned, but it's not like an illegal site or anything.

Anyway, it has what I think is a new stage...unless it's part of the Paper Mario level.
Oh shit, I just saw it! Definitely looks like Bowser's Castle is part of the Paper Mario level.

By the way, the two names for Meta Knight's customizable Drill Rush are "Speed Drill" and "Break Drill"

That's all I can translate. Rest is to you, Masked Man.

Thankfully, with Xenoblade X being slated for a worldwide release from the beginning, we'll be getting a NoA localisation. Hopefully with some real actors.

For the love of all that is good and pure in this world, keep your filthy yank hands out of the rightful British localisation.

Okay, here's how I see it. We don't have to take this "leak" as a bad thing.

If it's real once we get a character render that looks similar to those pictures, we can relax because the cut characters will be used as DLC. I believe that maybe Sakurai and the development team just didn't have enough time to finish all the characters and made so many DLC to give them time to polish up the rest of the cast, and to add a monetary icentive for fans who want more characters.

If it's fake then it's not a big deal. It just means we don't know who's coming next so your favorite character isn't out yet.

Regardless, after doing research yesterday on all the evidence...I hate to say it, but I have this weird feeling this leak is all real. Everything is adding up, including the multiple sources claiming the same thing and the team battle picture with shulk and lucina. Even on the stage selection screen leak, gaur plains from xenoblade is shown right there on the bottom left corner, just like the leak explains.

I would assume though, that we might have 1 or 2 more newcomers left that the leaker hasn't unlocked to finalize the roster. If so, this roster wouldn't be so bad when adding in all the DLC characters. So i'll be happy if it's real cause I want Snake back. lol

I don't buy that "scared to take pictures" nonsense.

If these assholes are willing to leak the game they can take more convincing photos. At the same time, leakers seem to think they will be tracked down if they take a pic that doesn't look ass.

Isn't there a way to run this through something to see if it has been shopped? Would be cool if we got a vet this week.

It might be, my Paper Mario 64 memories are rather vague, as I didn't replay it to the extent of TTYD. But it would add to the stage representing all of the Paper Mario series.

Is there any way you could link me to the source without getting yourself in trouble? I know Paper Mario 64 pretty well, so I'd be able to tell if this was actually Bowser's Castle or not.

OK, assuming the leak is the real deal, would you be happy with the leaked characters?
No.
Dr. Mario and Dark Pit have no business being their own slot, Dark Pit especially since he's just a side character in his own game and it's made a point that he fights exactly like Pit.
Bowser Jr. is a bad addition, especially since we already got a Mario newcomer, he's a character that I haven't seen that many people like, plus an aerial-only character could've been made out of many others (I hate to bring it up but, Ridley).
The lack of Lucas, Ice Climbers, Snake or Wolf is sad, especially the original movesets. It also means we would see 2 series get it's reps taken out, which is never good.
The lack of Chorus Men also makes me sad since he looked up to be a promising newcomer.
But this is all moot since the leak is fake :)

also the Smashboards leakers sure seem willing to throw a Nintendo employee under the bus, if you go by what they said in their thread

that is, of course, if you actually believe the shit that comes out of their mouth

They could easily look like ass because: The leaker doesn't have good equipment, they had to take a picture quickly to avoid getting caught or more. Plenty of real leaks have had ass quality pictures (See some of the XY pokemon leaks). And limiting the info you give would probably make it harder to pinpoint who you are. Not everyone would have access to the same info

I learned along time ago about how you operate. So, I'm not going back and fourth with ya buddy.

#TeamFakeAsShit on these "leaks". I could do a better fake in an hour in Photoshop after work, tonight.

Since you're so certain you can do this, I'm very much looking forward to seeing your results. If I could put in a special request, please make an original Chorus Kids model part of your fake leak. I can't wait!

Wouldn't the 5 characters in question be DLC?

A terrible one at that. It's already been shown that people are capable of making in-game shots that actually look good:

and from the surprisingly decent quality of the character portraits, it doesn't surprise me that the person who made this would go out of their way to make a low poly model or two, like Shulk at the win screen. If they can show Shulk, why not the other characters? Why would the only actual gameplay screen being shown feature a stage that already exists, two characters that already exist, and two more that aren't even recognizable?

Now if someone can explain the ESRB situation to me without making up excuses, that'd be great.
