I'm planning to change phone very soon and this is the phone that's on my radar. The only negative thing I've read about this is that the camera isn't very good, but other than that the phone is top notch. It's gonna be a battle between getting this or the Galaxy S5, unless there's something better than these two.

What's GAF opinion on thr M8 and other flagship phones?

Yeah HTC has been on point with their past two flagship devices.

You can't go wrong with them OP.

The Windows Phone version certainly isn't.

It's a great phone. My wife has one.

But "Best" might be the wrong attitude. You will never find a best. But you should be happy with any of the big name phones.

Beautiful phone loved it since I got it on launch day, camera could be better thoughday

My fiance has the Sony z2 though and I am very jealous

I'm eligible for an upgrade and think HTC makes some good stuff (currently using the EVO 4G LTE). Was thinking of doing the M8, but I have some reservations about it. Namely, the camera and the bezel. I like the bigger screen, but would prefer if the overall size wasn't increased as well. I'll probably just wait for next year's model and see how it turns out.

It pisses me off they couldn't get the camera right for a second time. They could've made the perfect phone if they abandoned that dual camera bullshit.

I have the M7. The MTC M8 is a bit of an upgrade. It's the best android phone out there at the moment by a slim margin, but the camera is definitely the weak point. the "ultrapixel" thing isn't quite as good as advertised. I would be surprised if HTC keeps it around for a third iteration.

My wife and I are both switching providers and getting new phones in the next week or so. What's so great about this one? It and the Galaxy S5 are the same price. Which should I get and why?

EDIT: The camera means a lot to me. So seeing people say the camera isn't so great on the M8 is already making my decision easy here.

LG G3 hands down. HTC might have the better build quality but seriously, who gives a shit about that? I guess some people might but I want functionality on my phone, not one with speakers that I'll never use that takes up screen space on my phone.

Moto X+1 is coming out in 2 weeks. It should have a nice camera. Wait for it.

The cameras are really the only things wrong with M7/M8. So grainy, compressed and unreliable, even compared to other cell phone cameras. Otherwise, very fast phone, great speakers, exceptional feel in the hands.

I've got the M7, and the front-facing speakers really are a dealbreaker. When I was shopping around for phones last year, I kept coming around to that aspect of it, and I'm not disappointed in the least. As for the camera, it's fine for spur-of-the-moment stuff. I have a DSLR for everything else.

I went to check the LG G3 and fuck does it look nice, I'm actually considering getting this over the M8.

How is LG when it comes to uptades and supporting their phones?

I have an M8, it's amazing. But best is just too subjective. It's the best for me but the LG G3 or Note 3 might be the best for you.

I would say some disdavantages:

- The camera (poor compared with other phones)
- Only 16GB storage for apps (of course there is SD card storage available for personal files)
- The M7 (in my opinion ) looks better than this phone
- Still the very poor ergonomic placement of the power button. That is very frustrating on the M7 , and the M8 is even larger.
- Relatively to 2014 flagships, smaller battery
- You might find the actual phone dimensions large for your hands

I love it, but don't really have a great reason for picking it over anything else. there's practically nothing separating it from the samsung equivalent.

which makes phone arguments that much funnier and the people involved in them that much more worthy of derision.

Ordered the LG G3 today, it arrives tomorrow. Excited as anything, looks a great phone. I was close to going for the HTC, but that screen looks too good.

Not much to choose between the top Androids though, I'm sure I'd be happy with the HTC or S5...

IMO, yes. Sense 6 is slick, and the M8 is the fastest Sense 6 phone out there right now.

I was going to upgrade to the M8, but the Note 4 should be announced/releasing soon, so that's on the radar too.

If you can stomach the size and Touchwiz, it might be something to consider.

Have you considered the One Plus One as well as a cheap alternative? There are upcoming phones at IFA too (Xperia Z3, Note 4, some variations on existing phones)

Also, the LG G3 Prime is coming, which is the same as the existing G3 but an even beefier 2.7GHz Snapdragon 805 instead of 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801. Probably at IFA too.

The consensus seems to be:

Best Large Phone: LG G3 (but the Galaxy Note 4 is coming in 2-3 weeks)

Best "Regular" Phone: HTC One (M8) or Galaxy S5. S5 has a better camera but M8 has better design/Android skin

Either way...I'd wait a few weeks until IFA Sept. 4-10

Is there a source for the note 4 release?

Buying 90% of the phones recommended in this thread is for suckers.

People who buy phones on contract are actively admitting they like being taken advantage of.

Your current choice is Nexus 5. If you can snag an invite to their stupid system then you can add in the One+.

If you are willing to wait you could maybe throw in the Moto X+1 depending upon price. If you can wait till later in the fall then the Nexus 6 comes into play.

Only chumps are buying expensive devices on contract from the major carriers.

Don't be a chump OP!

The Samsung event will be at IFA, and the Note traditionally, in the last few years, releases within the week.

You can find these phones on second hand websites for mint condition at a greatly reduced price. (about a third more than the phones you suggest at first release)

I just used the OnePlus One. best Android phone in the market. No companyware, speedier than any android phone I have used including S5 and M8. Speedier than the 5S when it came out. Completely customizable.
