Movies that remind you of Videogames

I think it's the result of movies as the dominating entertainment industry influencing games since forever, but as the gaming medium grows I think we're starting to see the opposite happen.

I just saw DREDD (2012) and kept thinking it was the perfect Metal Gear Solid movie, the enclosed setting, the pairing of an inexperienced (rookie) soldier with the seasoned hardass, the supernatural element, etc.

Then I started reading about Judge Dredd and realized how close the stories are (Clones, etc) so it would be a case of comic>video game>movie, has Hideo Kojima acknowledged the influence?

So GAF, do you have more examples of this? not counting the obvious video game movies, of course.

BTW, I recently realized I'm a member :). First thread so please be gentle :p

EDIT: Perhaps I didn't explain myself that well, I meant examples of movies (that came out AFTER said video game) that might have been influenced by games that came out before.

Zombieland, the part in the roller coaster, i wanted to take control of it and shot the zombies!

I always remember Children of Men having some video game aspects. Probably the shaky cam running to cover stuff and all the explosions. Video games these days just copy movies anyways so it's not gonna be that uncommon

Children of Men did this to me. The long shots in the first/third person view must have been inspired by games.

Edit:

I see I'm not alone on this one. Same director as Gravity for anyone who doesn't know.

I was gonna say it reminded me a bit of Half Life 2.

You can't disqualify greatness. This is the Citizen Kane of Bob Hoskins video game vehicles.

Elysium as the station reminds me so much of areas of the Citadel from Mass Effect.

From memory even the ship's reminded me a little.

Inception feels like the ultimate videogame movie. I mean even the concept of dreamsharing is basically like a hyper-realistic videogame. "The military developed a way for soldiers to shoot, stab, and strangle eachother and still wake up."

Opening dream - stealth/shooter (James Bond, Splinter Cell)
Heist level 1 - open world crime game (GTA)
Heist level 2 - ....adventure game?
Heist level 3 - military action (Modern Warfare 2)
Limbo - final boss

Crank is straight up Jason Statham not trying to let his health meter go down and beats people up.

ha!

The Road = TLOU

Straight up.

I think it's the opposite.

LOL

the raid?

star trek

Coincidentally the Raid came out just before DREDD and they have a lot of similarities.

Escape From New York is totally Metal Gear, and it's awesome to watch it from that context. There are tons of parallels because it's intentional on Kojima's part.

The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug is the closest we will ever get to a Dwarf Fortress movie. Lots of stuff in the actual fortress reminded me directly of stuff from DF, traps, levers, carvings on the walls...

Guardians of the Galaxy did not remind me of a specific game, but it did make me think that it would make an awesome original IP RPG. The characters are a perfect RPG party.

Personally I felt it's a lot more like Children of Men.

The Road has the bearded dude taking care of a small child, and there is
canibals
, the pistol he has only have 2 bullets exactly like how you are constanly low on ammo in TLOU, Aesthetics are almost exactly the same.

I can't think of one without thinking of the other.

Love them both though.

The first time I watched The Lord of the Rings: The fellowship of the Ring, I was blown away, because I felt like I was watching an awesome RPG in the form of a movie.

There is some similarity, it just hit me way harder with Children of men

I mean you got that oppressive military,
the road ambushes while in a car, the old guy doing one last job, smuggling a young woman who carries the "cure" across the country...

Mummy Tomb of the Dragon emperor is pretty much Uncharted 2 the movie, it even has Shambhala and blue water. Also there is a specific scene in The Shining that reminds of BioShock.

Prisoners felt like Heavy Rain in a lot of ways, right down to odd editing choices and being made by a French guy.

Oh yeah, the puzzle-solving-in-one-room movies too.

Cube, Cube 2, Exam, uh, Saw I think, I haven't seen it actually. But those remind me of games that play similarly.

Escape the room flash games, 999, Virtue's Last Reward, and to a lesser extent the Phoenix Wright games.

It reminded me of Destiny a bit, and maybe ME. if they had a better sense of humor. Also a bit of Star Fox. Which Rocket and the human ship designs.

And Pacific Rim felt like a videogame, Mech Warrior or Steel Battalion.
