Forza Horizon 2 Demo |OT| "Where we're going, we don't need roads."

I've been saying this for a long time.
the only thing needed is a gotham cities dlc

*brofist*

At the time I'd never played an arcade racer that controlled half as wonderfully as Horizon 1. Afterwards, PGR was twitchy, skittish crap. Horizon 2 sets a new standard; no going back now.

Is this a Horizon game? Let's see the checklist:

Expansive open world? Check. Big variety of cars? Check. Loads of customization imported from Forza Motorsport? Check. Interesting showcase events? Check. Collectable boards that give rewards? Check. Annoying voice in your ear?

HOLD UP MATE, YOU'VE MISSED A CHECKPOINT. HOLD UP MATE, YOU'VE MISSED A CHECKPOINT. HOLD UP MATE, YOU'VE MISSED A CHECKPOINT.

FUCK YOU, YOU FUCKING CUNT.

Check, check, check.

Yep, it's a Forza Horizon game.

Is there any way I can start the demo download using the web store from here at work? Like on PS4, I can start a download from the PSN web store and it will be done when I get home.

Guys.....stop posting impressions. I still have half an hour until I get home
It looks super good, hope you are all having fun and I'll probably stream the demo whenever I get home

First thing I did was turn off all the driver aids. Definitely feel of FM5 although obviously more forgiving - made clear by how the impulse triggers need to kick in less. But the handling is perfect for this kind of game.

Handling did feel different offroad - so I think fears are unfounded there. Was a lot of fun doing the cross country race from the cockpit view. Although the vineyards do get in the way a bit that's part of the fun - and the check markers are nice and high so you never lose site of them even in this view.

My only (very slight) quibble so far is that the race replays don't auto-switch cameras for you. You can choose from many views - but the game doesn't edit a nice replay together for you. I hope that's sorted in the finished game as it was in Horizon 1.

Holy shit.

Been playing for a bit now, this game went from a "meh maybe on sale since theres no NFS this year" to "most likely day 1"

Usually get my racing fix from NFS so I'm still not used to the driving yet, but wow this game is amazing. I think playground games might have just converted me over from NFS.

Yup, I'm missing out on a beautiful XBO exclusive. This game has everything it seems.
Open world, dynamic weather (at launch), pretty graphics, fantastic soundtrack, great car engine sounds...

I want to play the game so bad but I'm afraid to end up with another XBO with that awful coil whine noise.
This shit is frustrating to me.

just look for a Day 1 or Titanfall XB1 bundle, those should be fine

Fantastic demo, love how open the world feels. There's literally no better feeling than barrelling through a vineyard at 100mph.

So good.

One criticism, the rain doesn't bead/roll up the wind shield/bonnet from what I can tell. Pretty disappointing, especially when you consider that it was in PGR4.

Bucket list race is great, game looks phenomenal. Definitely a lot more forgiving in the corners compared to Forza 5, but a blast to play. Looking forward to playing with more unlocked cars, and getting to explore. So far highly recommended, will probably go digital on this one.

Biggest thing I am impressed on is the sense of speed. Having played Forza 5 a ton I wasn't sure how the 30fps vs 60fps would affect the game. I'm happy to say, especially during the bucket list challenge, that the sense of speed is there and the more forgiving controls help compensate for the lesser fps. Just wow.

Overall is fantastic, just what I expected.

Dat interior view while raining.

Free roam online is nuts. Met up with other 3 guys and started to ram each other like... Rams xD

Stupidity Level over 9000.

So much potential. 30th cant come soon enough.

30 min into demo....DAMN this game is great! Love the attitude, aesthetic, and graphics. Digital preorder signed, sealed, delivered. The cockpit view flying through the Italian countryside as foliage slaps off your windshield is absolutely epic. It has been while since I have audiblely reacted to a game while playing. Impulse triggers fantastic!

I'm so glad this game is getting the attention and praise it deserves. The first game didn't get anywhere near the amount it deserved which is still a huge shame given how amazing it was.

I didn't even think about the fact it was running at 30fps until I read this post. Feels great to play, I have zero problems with 30fps racers if they feel like this.

Looks good, but the framerate seems very spotty in that video. Nowhere close to a solid 30 that they promised.

It was solid in the hour or so that I spent with it. Didn't notice any slowdown at all.

When the assists are turned off or greatly lessened, try racing with the not-so-off-road types and you'll spin out and lose control extremely easily compared to the more appropriate types. Of course, that doesn't take into account user tuning and whatnot, but there's a huge difference. No super/hypercar is going to match up with a proper off-roader and opposite is true for the tarmac and paved roadways as well. I also love the mild loss of visibility when in the lower-set vehicles in taller grasses...I think it's part of the risk/reward to avoiding those areas when off-road, but the waypoint columns help keep things manageable.

My only (very slight) quibble so far is that the race replays don't auto-switch cameras for you. You can choose from many views - but the game doesn't edit a nice replay together for you. I hope that's sorted in the finished game as it was in Horizon 1.

Yeah, first thing I tried after a satisfying race where there were a few hairy moments and several racers flipped and collided in front of me and I just shot through the mess avoiding collision myself.

Note to Playground: add auto replay cameras.

Yeah, the sense of speed of legit. Especially in the first bucket list car. Goddamn. I was on the edge of my seat.

I was hoping the rain and how it reacts would at least match that from PGR4. Don't get me wrong, it looks gorgeous, but it's awfully static for the most part.

Well not slowdown, but drops. They seem to be all over the place in that video at least - which of course could be due to capturing equipment as well.

It has to be the capture because I noticed that, too, and it just doesn't occur or appear as blatantly when in-game. I think it's an issue of encoding.

What's the timecode of where you're seeing a drop? We've literally seen hours of footage without any drops, my guess is capture or encoding issues if it is there.

Yeah I know. Sucks but it is what it is unfortunately.

It's the capture, the game is rock solid.

How bout a Germany expansion pack where you can drive to the ring!

we did an (armchair) analysis back at forza 5 topic, where we saw that it is more feasible and more reasonable that the monza track laser scans get into the game, since they fit geographically in the area that horizon 2 takes place.....

If this game had police that you could either run away from or just get deducted credits, nothing over the top. Just to have fun chases.

This would be the perfect OG need for speed game.

open world + traffic + a few cops, someone has to do it. It allows you to simulate the real life feeling of being an asshole in a super car blowing through traffic.

man.

Holy shit; this is one hell of a game.

Generic McDude looks like a child sitting in the Evo though; why does he look so short?

I did. Hence my point being the offroad handling is really good and not just the same and as easy as being on the road.

I noticed that too lol. I think customizable drivers would be a neat add on. I would almost prefer a generic driver with a helmet too.

I was trying to think of holding off, but wow. This game is really something else. Beautiful intro, so fun to play, and those damn visuals. Hopped into the replay mode in the middle of a race, and was just looking at the same amazing angles that were in the trailers.

Loved the demo but does anyone know if you get to design your driver at all? A minor quibble but "default expressionless white guy" is pretty boring. You'd think you'd at least be able to play as a female.
