Confirmed not to be CG?
That's weird because it looks CG and it's clearly a good step above the rest and the other characters.

Yeah, I thought it was the only piece of CG in the trailer since the dithered hair was completely absent.

Check the shadow quality on her collar when her head is down, and also the shadows on her forehead from the hair in the gif. There's dithering and irregularities when they move, not the smooth soft shadows from their typical CG scenes.

There's also dithering on her eye lashes and polygons on the lower hair strands, especially noticeable when compared to the Agni's Philosophy render.

If they've finally managed to get the Luminous engine working and they can just drag in the CG models for game use, then I don't see SquareEnix even needing a brand new engine for next gen. Just expand on Luminous. Hopefully it's all smooth sailing from here on out.

I'm still astounded this is not CG.

I thought they ditched the luminous engine and went to UE4?

+Rime, cant forget Rime!

I am excited to see that the game isn't just an Uncharted clone that the last trailer made it look like, and it retains the exploration elements hinted at the older Versus XIII trailers.

Definitely excited, but I'm not a big fan of the more realistic art style and environments. It just looks bland and empty.

Also, the combat looks really iffy, but it could be different while playing it.

Whoa...the guy who did FFIX???? Screw FFXV, FFXVI will be the bomb yo!!

That's not Stella. Noticed the necklace and there's no mole on her left chin.

thats definetly good news if true, loved me some FFIX, but i'm extremely hyped for XV as well

luna and stella, probably sisters, seeing as they have names that evoque the night sky

Yep there are artifacts but the quality is still very close to CG and clearly better than the rest of the trailer.
I guess, like Kagari said, that they're using different models for their cutscenes and that was one of them. Of course we don't know if the cutscenes will pre-rendered or not.

the only CG in the trailer is the shot of the ships flying into the city at night.

Yes that's the CG sequence I was talking about. I thought that the Luna bit was an other of them, it's definetly impressive if it's a real time cutscene model instead.

This music is doing something me I cannot explain. Just, a rush of childhood memories.

I really cannot wait. I am coming into this one completely unassuming and with arms wide open.

Internet cynicism be damned.

Just reading through this thread and....are you guys saying this isn't CG?
ibalyDSvS2q9Xj.gif

Oh my.

It's been widely suggested by fans that Hiroyuki Ito will be the director of Final Fantasy XVI, and that he's been working on it for a number of years, but of course it's speculation. Over the years, other people working at Square Enix have commented that Ito is working on projects, being purposely vague.
Does this mean we will see the return of main entry Final Fantasy games being released no more than 2 years apart?

The productivite of Square during the PS1 days was staggering.

Since the other thread is too hyperbolic to discuss seriously, isn't the whole Nomura not directing thing not that big of a deal? Isn't it likely that the game is now at a point where he can pass off full directing duties to Tabata without fear that things will be changed outside of his intended vision?

I highly doubt this is going to turn into an FFXII situation where 3/4 of the story remains unfinished.

That was one of the main points of luminous, to have near indistinguishable character models to the CG ones.

Oh my.

It's not CG. There's clipping of her hair at the top of her head.

Somehow I still can't believe this :D That's Uncharted 4-tier.
Not exactly Uncharted 4 tier but close. Uncharted 4 includes alot of wrinkles and realtime facial wrinkling, not really seeing that in this game. You can still tell that it's a video game character.

The gif is a sneak peek of a work in progress. I hope SE deliver more with the final product.

We haven't seen Uncharted 4 gameplay or actual in-game footage yet, so everything is a bit premature. All signs point to Uncharted being incredible, though.

Hey guys,

I made some comparison shots ( not very well put together) just to see if the graphics changed a bit, maybe someone with better knowledge of computer graphics , e.i, lightning, textures, and all that can tell if the game is looks better now.

vkpowCO.jpg

Prompto looks less Asian now, which is ironic considering he was the most Asian looking in the hi-res models :(

That's not Stella. Noticed the necklace and there's no mole on her left chin.

Or they just didn't include every single blemish on the in-game models.

The necklace has a star in addition to the moon.

knew straight away when i saw her that her model wasn't CG

probably noticed it so easily because i'm so used to visual works CG style now

I will say I prefered Promto's old hair style, maybe even his old face. Not the biggest issue though, just the up do is a bit extreme. Ignis is already rocking it as well...

SE typically has a couple different in-engine models they use: one for gameplay and one for more detailed cutscenes.

Pretty common when chocking the camera up on characters.

I thought they ditched the luminous engine and went to UE4?

It looks exactly Like the Luminous Engine, just at a lower quality because the tech demo was running on a gtx 680. Still looks really close though.

Here are the specs of the tech demo:

Yup, i was just about to post this.

Strangely these shots are from debug and the hair doesn't look too hot. Guessing lowered 8xmsaa/fxaa?

Visual Works really haven't improved since the FFXIII days in my opinion, so I really don't know if the Altissia/Accordo footage is gameplay or CG.

+Rime, cant forget Rime!

I am definitely looking forward to Rime!

However that list was a general list of games that may impact upon the release of this. They will want to position it nice inbetween so that 100% of the spotlight is on this title.

that and waiting for the install to go up even more

Im sure they will transition seamlessly.

This decision seems to be one that aims for better productivity and efficiency with their development process. Something that was ahuge hindrence last gen. Now they have Tabata directing XV, with the groundwork layed out by Nomura, while he now focuses on bringing Kingdom Hearts 3 up to speed. Add to that FF XVI, which according to Verendus it's already in development without even being announced and you'll see how Square seems to have started this gen with the right mentality.

Yasumi Matsuno left FFXII and SE and the game fell hard because of it. What if this happens again?

I don't really care about productivity if it means sacrificing a once in a lifetime game.

That has to be CG according to some people these consoles are just mid range pc's and that isnt possible on my mid range pc

If this comes out on PC, the port is well optimized and your PC really can't run it, then you can say that.

Even if they are "just mid range PCs", that doesn't mean they're bad. I love my new mid range PC and can't wait to play Bloodborne and this demo on it.

Uncharted 4 will be a step above this from a technical standpoint

Naughy God + PS4 only + much Smaller/linear game

However the technical aspect is just one area of graphical importance as demonstrated in Xenoblade.

Japanese games still excel in that department which to me is more important then raw tech.

it's the photorealism they achieved with the lighting

although i guess that comes down to art?

I think the CGI in versus is the best overall but I don't think its a substantial leap idk..

The pic I posted doesn't do the CG justice btw..Its pretty low res.

I thought they ditched the luminous engine and went to UE4?

That was just speculation because the guy who headed development on luminous left the company. They are still using Luminous for development though.

Just reading through this thread and....are you guys saying this isn't CG?

Oh my.

If you play the full gamersyde version of the trailer on a TV like i played mine on my PS3, its immediately apparent its real time. The shadow dithering is everywhere, under her chin, under her hair, her eyelashes have dithering, the ends of her hair in the back have dithering, her ams have tons of polygons and jagged edges, the chair she's sitting in has tons of aliasing.

If it was visual works offline renders, or even prerenders, they'd most likely fix that so it looked pristine. PC hardware is strong enough to make it happen. This is probably PS4 footage considering it all has aliasing and is sub HD to boot.

Wow, finally saw the trailer. That looked amazing. A group of guys going on a road trip stopping by to kill monsters, it looks like it will be a fun adventure.

I've only played one Final fantasy game which was III, but this one has rocketed up my most anticipated list, so FF is no longer turn based?

This one isn't but it will probably go back in the next installment.
