Wild shot in the dark $100m budget, 10m units worldwide sales goal.
I think it's probably waaaay past $100M at this point.

It has "hold down attack button to keep attacking." Until we learn otherwise, it's premature to believe that means you can't tap the button to do a timed attack. So, let me understand this, does the game have a "hold down a button to execute the action"?
If so, then it will make combat really, really boring. Everything would be automated to the nth degree.

You shouldn't be saying this unless you are a very experience programmer and work with a PS4 development kit daily. You have no idea what the hardware is capable of, we are less than 1 year into the system's life and you say, "there is no way the game will close to this.." come on man
That's what we know so far. Tabata says you hold down a button to evade, and you hold down a button to attack. The demonstration they showed in this video is clearly very automated in terms of actions. But that's just the basic mechanic, there are probably more details they'll take about when they're ready to show off more stuff, or the demo is closer to release.
That's a fair criticism. But, I'm trying to keep my expectations in check. What about Xbox One?
This is developed as a multiplatform title. And the power difference between PS4 and XB1, while decent, isn't at the level where the gap is so big that it cannot be overcome by a resolution/framerate sacrifice.
All hell would break loose if that was the case, duck if you look closely at times there's like a pause when noctis is about to attack or dodge idk if that's because the demonstrator was holding down to button for the action to initiate. Compared to E3 trailer attacks and rolling/dodging seems to be more fluently, maybe it's just me idk if others notice it hence the comments about the combat looking slower.
How would you even realistically pace a narrative if the main character can warp past everything from patrolling guards to cutscene trigger points to bosses.
That's what I'm thinking, just thought it was a bit weird that the everyone who responded only referenced the PS4. My guess is we'll maybe see something of a 1080p vs 900p scenario or less.
The same way FFVII realistically paces a narrative around a permanent main character death when you have 18 Phoenix Downs in your inventory. Final Fantasy don't need no logic.
Free warping would be either broken beyond belief or would result in so many whiffed throws that it'd become an exercise in trial-and-error frustration.

I mean just take the tech demo arena as an example. If you could warp to anything you see, what would you try out and how would that break the game, already?

You do know that Phoenix Downs do not revive people from death, right?
One thing I still want to see at some point would be the menus and such as well as how leveling up in this game is going to work.
One thing I still want to see at some point would be the menus and such as well as how leveling up in this game is going to work. Will it be similar to KH where each level increases general parameters with some new skills every so often? Could there be some sort of mastery system involving the weapons based on their use (I suppose this would be most beneficial to Noctis though than the others)?
I can't recall them ever talking much about this aspect of things.
KH is really easy with it, lol. Right now the battle system seems like a simple version of KH2.

Those are usually the last things they ever talk about in the marketing cycle for Final Fantasy. The License Board in FFXII and the Crystarium system in FFXIII weren't detailed until very close to the release of the games. We probably won't hear anything about this stuff until late 2015.
Right. With that it sounds more like an option for newcomers. Not the only method to attack.
Baaaaaaaaahhhh semantics
The Battle System seems heavely inspired by Assassin's Creed series... to a certain extent.
ehhhh i'd rather have that than mashing buttons.
we all know we'll use attack the most, so it's better to hold than to press it again and again.
or maybe it's just a rapid fire thing and we can still time attacks.
they said it was more like kingdom hearts before, and that game had you pressing attack all the freaking time.
that'll hold up in court
AC a terrible terrible combat system.
I'd love a super fancy leveling system like sphere grid, liscence board or crystarium.
It just makes assigning points so much more interesting and fun to do.You can tell they put a lot of effort into these systems and its pretty fun in the end product.

Eh, maybe the Sphere Grid since that didn't bug me too much, but I'd rather not go with the License Board or Crystarium. Though from what I understand the changes made to the former in that expanded version improved it a bit. The latter was just boring.
I want to press buttons not hold, then where's the strategy if it's doing everything for you? It's a false sense of "control" it's essentially auto pilot. If it's optional to hold I wouldn't mind for those who like it.

strategy? as i've said it could be more like a rapid fire thing, which i think it actually is.
how is holding a button any different than mashing it over and over? how is one supposed to be strategy? you're just holding it instead of mashing, which will result in the same actions regardless.
of course that doesn't mean you can't mash the buttons to your liking, but what's the point again? square isn't stupid to not let you do single button-press attacks.
they must mean you can hold the attack button instead of mashing it like in kingdom hearts.
.
Uh, we have many next gen games from the west that look just as good if not better than this game graphically, none of them took six years to make. 8 year dev time is not a super positive thing. Even bloodborne looks more impressive technically imo and that game has been in development since the Artorias dlc was finished and there's an alpha on the way. After this tech demo i can understand the 9 years work. It's like control a f*cking CG movie!
So if we like to have these kind of quality AAA games, the avergage years to wait after a announcement is at least 6 years until we get a demo.
And if we really like to see FF XVI for PS4/XONE, this gen at least must die after 2022.
The trailer is on the most popular videos right now on youtube list , never seen a game trailer on the list before :0
yeah I imagine if you want to stop doing damage or a certain string of hits you can just unhold the button or if you want to to switch commands instantaneously you still can by pressing a different button.
What I am mostly worried about is how invincible you can become by simply holding the defensive button.

how is that autopilot? it doesn't stop you from mashing your buttons or stopping you from attacking.
You do realize they probably only got those new models done within the last year right?
