Themes incoming for PS4 2.0 and PSVita 3.30

SCE really need to engage the community more, especially with updates. It's like they're trapped 20 years in the past.

I suspect the problem continues to be the firmware all being handled in Japan. It almost seems like they're isolated from the rest of Playstation, and thus we only hear about what's coming when someone in Japan says we can.

They have actually started talking about fixes that are coming, sometimes months in advance, which is a change for the better. But of course the fact that the changes are taking months to arrive is ridiculous.

People complained about the constant firmware updates on the PS3 so Sony obliged with the PS4. Suddenly monthly updates are all the rage. There are many things that have flipped this generation to suit a certain demographic.

This is absolute nonsense. People complained about PS3 firmware updates for two reasons.

- They took forever to complete, meaning that you turned on your console and it was unusable for 20-60 minutes, depending on how good your internet was and how fast Sony's servers were at the time.

- Stability was usually all the updates were for, which made point one all the more annoying.

With the PS4 they've at least improved problem 1, but 2 is still very much a problem. Take a look at the list of updates so far this year. You'll notice a common trend. Stability. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_4_system_software

It's more of the grass is greener type deal. People are complaining because they see Microsoft pumping out new features every month while Sony keeps stabilizing the ps4. Not to mention a lot are still butt hurt that suspend/resume is no were to be found.

I wanna be able to only display my game tiles in alphabetical order on the first page. No playroom or live or anything breaking up the flow of games in the row. Bothers the crap out of me.

No, I can vouch for this. Updates were particularly slower at downloading than games bought in the store. And then they took ages (proportional to the size of the download) to install. And you couldn't download updates in the background - so you were sat looking at the update screen until the download finished and installed.

Just depends on the person then really. Updates for me never took more than 10 minutes at the most (one of the reasons they never really bothered me), while downloading games is a chore.

cry me a fucking river. ps1 and ps2 emulation? the ps4 plays ps4 games god damn fine.

and regards to DLNA and media support, big deal. 4 year old TVS can do all that, I bought the ps4 to play games by myself and with friends, it is a dedicated gaming device afterall, not a media box.

some people just have to bitch about the same thing and how said company is the worse thing ever because of it, even worse are the people who say they won't buy said device because it is missing these kind of features. Why even buy a ps4 if you're so bothered about these extra tiny things.

How dare anyone not be satisfied by the same things that satisfy you?

The PS4 is still missing basic features that were announced at the reveal. The comment you responded to was perfectly reasonable and your response was needlessly vitriolic and essentially one big logical fallacy.

If other people wanting things that they paid for bothers you so much, then perhaps you should examine your own personal issues with a therapist or other mental health professional.

I can't believe what a total failure Sony has been in regards to PS4 firmware updates. In the ten months since the launch of the PS4 we've seen just two notable PS4 firmware improvements: an editor for video captures and Blu-Ray 3D support. Everything else is MIA.

No Suspend/Resume
No PS1/PS2 emulation
No DLNA
No Folders
No suspend/resume download function
No media play support (JPGs, MP3, CD, MP4, MKV, AVI, etc)
No ingame custom music

At least we get support for themes and support for SharePlay and Playstation Now in 2.0, but those aren't features that interest me that much. I want suspend/resume plus support for various audio/video formats.

Lol nothing out of that stuff apart from suspend/resume was ever hinted on or promised. Why do people want a console to be a pc? The whole media player thingy ... Eergh who cares if ps4 can read a cd, mp3 or mp4. By now if you're interested in such a thing you would already have a mesia player, chromecast, tv with it built in, or something. It's a console goddamit, I prefer their resources goes into other stuff then firmwares

every month same thread. blah blah dlna, blah blah media playback blah blah I won't buy until it has these features.

nothing to do with satisfaction, more like entitlement.

So he bought something that wasn't advertised and expected it to be there? dlna, media playback, folders, ingame custom music and ps1 and ps2 emulation were never advertised.

it is like buying a phone and expecting it to wipe your arse.

And it sure would be nice if my friends could send me a game invite while I'm waiting a .mkv file so I could get more use out of my gaming device. Unfortunately until there is DLNA support I'll keep missing out on party requests since I'm using Roku and not PS4.

How hard is it to add this? Like you said four year old TVs managed it without a problem.

Yep, this was my experience as well. It's one of the main reasons I stopped using my PS3 as my netflix machine - I got tired of once every week or two needing to wait 10-20 minutes for some stupid worthless firmware update before I could sit down and watch netfliex.

A lot of the features people want are things the PS3 had at launch. If my old Sony phone wiped my ass you better believe I'm expecting the new model to do so as well.

My launch PS3 has an SD card slot. I neither want nor need one on my PS4.
Features don't have to move from one gen to the next, tech moves on.

While I agree that this is true now, it was a very different scenario for the first few years after the PS3 launched: downloading and installing updates would take 30-60 minutes for everyone.

There's always someone ready to defend something like this and blame the consumer for caring. Today, you're that someone. You should feel shame.

What is it with this word that people don't understand. The person to whom you replies is, indeed, entitled...and it's not a bad thing. He or she is entitled to the system he or she was promised by Sony. That person purchased said system but it isn't yet what was promised. "Entitled" isn't just a blanket insult you throw around when you can't think of something else. It's an actual word with an actual meaning.

Regarding media I just want to be able to put MP3s on the PS4 so i can use them in Games. Especially important for WWE 2K15

We're talking about software features that are possible through firmware updates. Do you think tech has moved on from folders or media playback?

I really, really want to use my own music for a lot of games. Destiny would be way more fun with peppy Kylie Minogue music playing in the background and don't even get me started on the horrible music selection in Watch_Dogs.

It would help if the party chat doesn't crash randomly here and there, or just not work sometimes even though I'm online. It would help to have some custimizable options because just about everything you do is about as intuitive as something made in 2004. The UI/UX designers/devs seem to be clueless about this other than the basic format of the system. You invite friends and have to go through 3 screens just to do instead of having a simple function for it. Why can't you make your party chat and let it stay there instead of creating a new one every time? That way, I can have chats for my TLOU friends, Destiny friends and FIFA friends. They can also join, depending on the customization, a word the Sony team doesn't seem to fucking know the meaning off considering the lack of options on everything you use.

I watched the latest Podcast Beyond. Greg Miller is very likely making a new account since every time he tries to do something with his friends (accept name go below to letters "B"), it crashes. He said he would wait it out until Sony would fix it. It's been nearly a year and he's giving up now, which I do not blame him. Shu and other Sony members listen to every episode, and yet they haven't fixed this issue. Shu said the team did not program it so they can change the username of the PSN, one of the major complaints during the PS3 era. Yeah, it is about games but the lack of options and comical mistakes Sony makes sometimes, you have to wonder where the fuck that mandatory PS+ money is going, because it certainly isn't going to making a bigger team that make the OS/online experience a lot better.. or at it certainly doesn't look like it anyways.

You have to send in your PS4 to get it fixed, you have to individually save every single save file to the cloud or on a USB. Why? How do you not think of adding a simple, extra option to include all of them? For fucks sake Sony, common sense!

I know it's always easier to be couch coach of every situation, but it's comical how barebones the OS is in terms of options and how little bugs keep crashing my PS4. Despite my overuse of the word fuck, I'm not that mad about it. I deal with it, but there's a lot of those little examples that I listed and they do add up. The PS+ mandatory online to me is just for the suits, because I see 0 evidence of them putting it to good use.

It sounds like you aren't familiar with the definition of entitlement. When a consumer says they will not buy a product until it has the features they desire, that is their prerogative. They are quite literally entitled to do that.

On your second point, Sony officials have said that they are working on many of those features for months now, I don't know how you missed that, or if you actually did. But yes, Sony has said most of those features are coming and so people are irritated that they seem to be taking so long especially in light of a competitor seeming to provide more timely implementation.

If someone bought the PS4 because they saw that Sony execs said they would implement certain features, then they have every right to be irritated when those features still are not present after nearly a year.

As for your phone comment, people regularly complain when one product does not offer the services of another alternative product in the same market. So I don't know what it is about this issue that puzzles you so.

Your tone is needlessly belligerent and its really bizarre how much of a problem you seem to have with other people making complaints about a consumer electronic device. Or perhaps you just have a problem expressing yourself in a polite manner in general.

I don't feel any sympathy for your whining about how much these posts bothers you, to be honest, your needlessly vulgar and insulting comments are far more bothersome to a rational person reading this thread than any criticism of Sony's slow implementation of system features.

I already explained that the majority of that persons list was not promised by sony though.

Ahhhh, then I'm the asshole for not realizing those things hadn't been promised. I've been hearing about them enough that I thought they were actually supposed to come along at some point.

You were taking about features in general. Otherwise your arse-wiping phone analogy makes no sense.

And yes, I think that media playback tech has moved on: I used to use DLNA a lot on PS3, but times have changed: how many new TVs being sold alongside PS3 supported DLNA compared to TVs now? It's not a function that I need a games console to have anymore.

Folders is a fair point, as is suspend/resume.

Yup, another truly simple feature to implement.

I'd like that when I get a trophy, if I press the PS button it will bring me to that trophy page so I can see what it was for. I'd also like to get some progress tracking for trophies. Like 'Kill X guys with a shotgun' and it shows how many i've killed. The game already keeps track of it.

Blame the OS being handled in Japan. With Japan's irrelevance these days i wonder why Sony hasn't created a software team in America. The features we want and need Japan doesn't have any clue about. Or know how to design properly.

And yeah that PS+ money isn't doing anything for improving PSN or the OS. Currently we're just paying to pay. Which is why i still haven't bought a membership. I rather wait till black friday deals or someone i know has extra.

I'm sure this update will come in November.
We aleady know that Remote Play for Xperia Z3 devices will be enabled in November, so this will probably be part of the 2.0 update.

Suspend/resume is top of my list. This is something that was specifically mentioned as being a feature but is so far absent. I'm hopeful that it might speed up boot times in general: I struggle to see any difference in booting from standby vs from cold.

Keeping development of the PS4 OS in Japan seems so pointless when there is such an blatant communication issue between US/Europe and Japan.

If some of the guys in Japan know English, then it wouldn't be as hard. Not this one, but my previous job as an Art Director was all done via phone, skype & email. They could easily make a small design team in the US or Canada and work with the team in Japan by fixing a lot of these issues. I'm scratching my head constantly at the little fucks up that I see them make, it's shocking they haven't figured it out yet. :p
