Sleeping Dogs "Definitive" Edition on Xbox One has a terribly performing game engine

Oh boy. I've just played two hours of this. From the opening cut scene it became clear there were serious performance issues. I ended up capturing that gameplay - horrible screen tearing at times, and sections of the main quests dipped to 15fps. No, not just a short dip - minutes of it.

Just - what.

Edit: the game is out in Europe today.

Edit: I made two videos:

Digital Foundry weighs in: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-sleeping-dogs-definitive-edition-face-off

"Performance is the Achilles Heel of the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition, each preferring to adopt the PC's top-end visual standard at the price of 20-30fps performance in built-up areas.

It's a near-maxed visual experience on console, then - but it's clear where United Front Games has its priorities set. Unfortunately, performance is not high in the running order for Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition. Where there's any cluttering of vehicles around the city's downtown area, we see the performance ranging between 20-30fps on both platforms. (...)

Added to these frame-rate woes is the tearing; an adaptive v-sync that cuts frames in the top 40 per cent, whenever the engine struggles to hit its 30fps target. Unfortunately, this is frequent enough to make driving at speed a bigger challenge than it already is - stutters confusing the sense of momentum on motorbikes and cars in high-speed pursuits. It's far from ideal. "

Where's the capture

I thought the Xbox video I saw of this looked a bit fishy compared to the PS4 gameplay.

Its a shitty b tier game with high res textures for 60$. Absolute joke, Activision made the right call aborting this failure of a game. The driving and world are absolute shit. PS2 era world depth and driving

DF thread will be good when they dismantle the 60$ "definitive" edition for beeing shit on both next gen version. Probably going to be 30 $ in a month.
Sad because Sleeping Dogs was a nice game (way better than GTA 4) and deserved better.

Additional technical detail - they turn off Kinect senors during gameplay for obvious reasons, but turn them back on at menus (not sure why). The problem is they don't always turn them back off. Eg after you complete the market tutorial at the beginning of game, Kinect senors are left on by mistake. Even with Kinect senors disabled it performs pants.

wow.

Seriously?

I mean I respect your opinion..

But seriously?
It is and the metacritic and sales reflect it
The strongest part is CQB combat and thats not up to par with Batman. Aside from that you have awful shooting and driving mechanics in a nice looking dead city

Harshly worded... I also thought the driving physics were sometimes a bit wonky and the cities lacked depth, but the plot was engaging and the combat was a thrill. I thoroughly enjoyed it despite the flaws.

For the record I'm a big fan of the game and this a triple dip for me (Xbox 360, PC, XB1). Also, it does actually look good on XB1 - they have some serious DoF and other alpha effects going on here. Rain and wet surfaces look great.

Cool. Here's hoping the PS4 version isn't as bad.

....since I pre-ordered it digitally. :/

I've read it's bad too, but need to see more performance analysis or videos. It's a shame, a game like that they could have improved so much on the past gen version.

I never played it on last gen and I really don't have anything decent enough to run the PC version so I'm not too bothered by my decision. Framerate issues never bothered me all that much anyway. I'll live.

Those were my impressions as well. Never really understood why people praise Sleeping Dogs. I guess it's to do with the setting, which is the most refreshing aspect of the game.

Take it back since its false advertising to call it definitive.

Can I be a dick about this? I'm going to be a dick about this.

This is what happens when you force parity. Either you get an AC Unity and the PS4 isn't being used to its potential or you get a Sleeping Dogs/Alien Isolation and the Xbox One version runs like shit.

I'm gonna be a backseat game dev and just say that you should focus on the strengths of each system and use different rendering settings accordingly.

EDIT: Actually nope, PS4 version's absolute shit too.

GTFO. I've had more fun with this game than I had with any GTA I played.

Love this game so this is very disappointing to hear, was gonna double dip a bit down the line when the price got lower, but if it's bad even on PS4 I dunno if I will.

This isn't parity. This is incompetency.

It's better than Watch Dogs. And tbh I liked it more than GTA IV. Doesn't quite reach Saints Row 3 and 4 in terms of fun, but it still has a cool location, best combat system of all Open World games and an alright story with likable allies and asshole antagonists. Certainly not a PS2 Era B-Tier game. This ain't True Crime anymore.

Okay, I checked out that video mostly to see how the game performed but I don't even care about that now because good GOD did that game look boring. I've never seen a generic-looking game that compares. This game reached a new echelon of generic. Amazing.

If you're assuming the PS4 version is going to be all sunshine and roses, you're all but assuredly in for a shock.

In this case both version run like suck.

Comparing this to the Metro Redux games, just wow.
It's an awesome game, treated like crap for this port... a real shame.

Squeenix should have given this another few months in the oven and released it during Q1. I'd hazard a guess and say the version we got was rushed out the door to beat to shelves the heavy hitters coming next month.
