This is true. Because of the whole fiasco with Online DRM and Kinect, Microsoft has damaged the Xbox brand in America where it actually matters. People say that if Xbox One isn't at parity with PS4, it will lead to a monopoly, which is anything but true. The PS4 is as successful as it is because of competition in that people chose the PS4 over the Xbox One or Wii U. So long as Microsoft and Nintendo are still making consoles, so long as PC gaming exist, and so long as Apple, Google, and Amazon are finding success with gaming, Sony won't have a monopoly since if they do something the market doesn't like, people will jump ship to Xbox, Nintendo, PC, iOS, or Android.

People need to stop treating him a some special insider with secret information. He just decided the Xbox brand remained strong and it had better deals.

He underestimated the impact that would have on driving sales.
His prediction is not a big deal and being wrong is not a big deal. Treating either of these as a big deal is honestly the readers error.

PS: Analysts don't give their lucrative information out for free; Patcher uses the games industry to promote himself and his business.

I used to think Pachter must be good at his job in some capacity away from the nonsensical rumour mongering which bordered on trolling, but getting numbers wrong to this extent is just... what does he even do at this point other than spitball truly lazy assumptions?

This guy gets it. This is all about face-time and word of mouth for Pachter.
If GAF talks about him... even if it's to mock his inaccuracy... that's a win.
Both Pachter and Sony won this month.

Well, obviously he gets enough stuff right to be considered viable by the media and investors. It just so happens that this wasn't his lucky day.

So PS4 sold about 2X as much as Pachter predicted. It would be a kick in the pants if Xbox One sold half as much as Pacther predicted.
