bloody arena with huge eyeballs

How the fuck do I beat this stage? I always die when
the chainsaw guy drops down to the arena
just because I have no ammo, bolts, matches or whatever left. You can't melee the guy.

Is there a trick to it? I play on casual just to avoid that shit, now it seems like the game is over for me, because no mater how much ammo I save on the grunt zombied its never enough.

If you have absolutely no ammo, and there is none laying around you might wanna restart the chapter.
There's no combat until just before that point so, and you can explore a lot of rooms in this part for ammo. I found a LOT of ammo lying around on survivor mode here.

Thanks, will try that right now. Should have done it earlier.
I guess I was a little too trigger happy just before I got in there.
I had 10 pistol bullets, 2 shotgun, 2 harpoon left before chainsaw guy

Any trap parts?

Thanks to Markitron I made it thru in 1 try after restarting the chapter and searching those rooms on the way to the --------------.
Haven't played any Japanese Horror games since forever but Dino Crisis was my favorite so I had to get this.
It's really funny to see how CoD, AC and all other AAA games have changed the way I play. In those games you never have to worry about shit. Ammo and health are everywhere and if you die you get spawned like 10 secs before any encounter.

Really enjoying this now. Just finished Chapter 3 - I seem to be playing it the 'right' way now and its all working beautifully. I was prancing around merrily trying to play it a bit quick in the first couple of levels I think, now I've slowed down and started properly looking and engaging in some stealth and exploring its far more engaging.

Chapter 3 I really enjoyed - more open than I thought, visually quite smart and some good encounters.

Keen to see where it goes next, its really starting to feel like Resi 4 but with its own personality

Glad you're being open minded about it.
Here's the thing. RE4 has excellent gameplay at its core, it controls well and plays well. No glitches, no bugs. Because TEW only has solid gameplay I can't justify putting it over RE4. It may perhaps have a better story in the end, which I will figure out once I beat the game, but on functionality alone its not better.

Its not like I'm aimlessly hating, I'm enjoying the hell out of the game and already want to NG+ it and get all the achievements. But the game's issues have been made known to me early on.

I wish I could do new game+ on the next difficulty up rather than having to do Survival again.

Yeah, always bothers me when games do this, but I get it. We'd essentially be cheesing the difficulty. Still, you think they would encourage you to play more any way they can. Though I'm happy to go through again on Survival and this time just rip through it.
Turn this thing into a shooter now.

Matches?! We don't need no stinking matches! ;)

The shooting is really bad, I don't know if it happens to you, but when I aim the reticule to head or legs sometimes the bullet hits a wall or the floor, the fuck? I can't trust to headshot an enemy and sometimes I waste a lot of bullets on one enemy and end up just redoing that part.

I see you already beat this part, but I was in the same situation as you, and I just kept climbing the ladder, and when he'd follow me up I'd get in a good 2-3 melee hits as he was nearing the top. Then I'd jump down, climb back up and repeat until he finally died. Took a long time but I did not feel like restarting the chapter.

Just finished chapter 12, my god it was horribad.
The spider monster was really awesome. Even defending the bus wasn't so bad, but when the machinegun car rolls out I was facepalming so hard. Icing on the cake was when you get to mow down haunted with said machinegun. Whole chapter was a horrible downhill.

On Ch8 now, I am just not enjoying this, I just turned the difficutly down to easy to get through the rest of the game, I'm just waiting for a revelation of whats going on, def. trading this in after I finish it, just not doing it for me. Other than the visuals, with the screen bugging out, or thr mindfuck of it, it's nothing really special, very bad shooting, punching does nothing, and seems to be very generic overall, except for the illusions. Is there anything redeeming, or is it not worth finishing? I'm really hoping for a payout of somekind.

Yup, 11 and 12 are kinda letdowns compared to what came before that. 13+ is muuuuch better :)

Phew got through Chapter 10 at last. It took a couple of upgrades to the Sniper Rifle to seal the deal. Really thought I wasn't going to be able to do that last bit without restarting the chapter on a lower difficulty. Lucky there were a couple of ammo boxes scattered here and there.

I don't like the number of instant kill moves that boss characters seem to have in the game but it does do a good job of intensifying the boss battles.

12 is disappointing and I don't like all of Chapter 11, but I also thought Chapter 11 had its moments.
I enjoyed the water monster sections and the mannequin factory.

Chapter 13 onward does shift things a different direction than the previous two chapters, though.

I just finished chapter 9 and despite hearing a couple of people say it has major issues, I never encountered any significant ones and really liked it.

Ruvik kept spawning (He only spawned 3-4 times or so) when I wasn't near hiding spots, but it wasn't as if he was difficult to avoid. I just walked away from him (but remained somewhat near him as he kept teleporting directly to me when I ran too far) and took short sprints when he teleported near me. Overall, the possibility of him appearing and the terrifying audio cue that comes with it kept me on edge the whole way through. In the end, I died once during that tripwire sequence, where I went through it perfectly the first time, but stood up a bit too early, which automatically kills you despite there not being any tripwire.

Aside from the apparent bug where
he literally just spawns on top of you
, what were the complaints again exactly?

I thought it was really tedious. I did the exact same thing you did and that just made the whole thing feel completely pointless and not even remotely scary. Oh, there is the blue light or whatever and the noise. It's time to slowly walk ahead of him again. Not fun at all. The chapter would have been much better without that nonsense.

Apparently you need to stop running and stand still to aim. Or at least that's what keeps being said, even though that's not the issue. Quite often it feels like the game has behind the scenes "to hit" rolls ala the first Mass Effect.

To be honest if you are not enjoying it now then your probably not gonna. Most in this thread really hate most of the final third of the game. I'd say keep going until you finish chapter 10, if you still really don't like it at that point then you probably shouldn't bother with the rest of it.

This was easily my biggest problem with the game. I finished with 65 deaths, and I would say at least 40-50 of them were cheap 1 Hit Kills. It gets worse the further into the game you go.

Stop now. If you don't like up to Chapter 8, it only gets worse. Well, Chapter 9 is great, but whatever, it won't magically 180 your opinion. You're right, it's not for you.

Honestly I'd tell anyone that's not having fun by chapter 3 or 4 to just drop the game, it's definitely not for you/them.

Wow that's a real let down, so then what are people actually liking up until that point? I honestly haven't found anything amazing, but then again may have been because I wasn't enjoying the difficulty. Seemed like I was doing things to do things to make it harder, ex: burning the boss creature over and over and over, I think 6 times. Just trying to see what people are enjoying. I love RE games and survival horror, but I feel nothing for this.

I loved the atmosphere, the slow pace, the enemy encounters, the environments, the boss battles, the upgrade system, the mystery of the game and I even loved the combat.

For reasons which I won't go into, pretty much all of the above is either broken, absent or falls apart in some way in the final third of the game (except for chapter 13).

Game mechanics-later chapters "spoiler":
I'm speaking about the one-shot mechanic. I think in the later chapters (I'm at 11) the games really abuse of it. It's unnerving and seems like only a trick to make the game more difficult. I really can't stand it and it's ruining the fun for me.
:(

Personally I don't think the last 3rd of the game is bad at all. It's just what comes before it is so well done, so different in tone, and just so fantastic, that when they try to appeal to the RE5/RE6 crowd and it just slames the brakes BIG time. People say they really don't want to replay the game thinking about those chapters, but honestly I think going into those chapters knowing what your getting, it's even less a bother. Almost done on my PS3 playthrough, then going to finish up on Xbox One.

Yeah, I don't think it's quite as good as the first ten, but the last five chapters are far from bad. There are quite a few interesting scenarios in there. Though I feel like the best chapter in the game both thematically and from a gameplay standpoint is Chapter 3.

Up to chapter 7, really liking the game. I can say, as a fact pertaining to me, it won't be anywhere near to RE4 for me. But it doesn't have to be, it's still good.

The chapter 6 boss was a little annoying because his attacks really seemed unavoidable. I would sprint all I could but I would still get hit. So I changed my approach and just shot gunned him to death, went down pretty quickly.

3 had a bit of everything and really let you tackle it however you wanted to, definitely one of the best chapters in the game I agree.

Most definely. I wonder how creating an entire game like that would have turned out though? Would we have gotten bored if it was that same style throughout or no? What do you think?

The way it's designed feels like a vertical slice of the game. I was actually hoping the game would at least expand on the idea a few times, introducing larger and more complex areas with multiple paths, secrets, opportunities for stealth, traps and environmental use. Chapter 9 is kind of similar, but not quite the same thing. We mostly get linear set-piece encounters, which are quite good, but I would have liked to see that idea explored more in-depth.

Chapter 4 was awesome! Was I the only one who kept
trying to run past the guy at the end after getting away from spider thing? Finally dawned on me that I should nope the fuck out and head upstairs.

Love this game.

Yea I died once doing that and then
just started running back upstairs thinking there must be an explosive barrel or something I need to shoot when he walks near it since he's walking so slow, but nope, fucker just disappeared.
I was digging the game before but after playing through chapters 3, 4, and 5 last night after planning on just doing 3 but being unable to put my controller down, I now realize I love this game. And I'm not even a big survival horror guy. I'm just loving the fucked up visuals and pacing.

Btw, absolutely loving the
invisible mother fuckers!

stop now, your already way past the games best chapters and it only get's worse apart from chapter 9, and the payout isn't worth it.If i was you i would trade it in.
It doesn't even look like tango is going to patch in fixes for consoles so the quicker you trade it in the more money you get back, as i imagine a lot of people will start trading this in very soon.

Chapter 15 is the worst by far.
First the blood pit now the 2 safebox monsters, always run out of ammo.
This shit is really making the TEW experience really bad for me now.
The "casual" mode is a joke, way too hard, way too little ammo.
No wonder japanese game became obsolete compared to back then.

I would not recommend this game for anyone anymore.

Yeah, I'd stop now. Some of the later chapters are very action orientated and if you hate the shooting, you won't enjoy them at all.

It simply wasn't your type of game when even casual difficulty is too hard for you.
An don't exaggerate. Japanese games are still king these days. Just not for everyone like I said.

They might be kings of quality (which is still up for debate), but they aren't kings any longer in terms of output.

In chapter 7, I saw a room with some green gel blocked off by bars. How can I access it? Other big door path?

After you shut off the gas in the left side area, go back to the area on the right of the locked door. Towards the end of that area there is a sideroom that will allow you access to that tunnel (it's close to the exit that opens when you complete the right side area). ie the entrance to it is in the other part of the level from where it is located

I can't even think of a Japanese game I've enjoyed recently. At least to completion. I've started a few and dropped them.

Umm... Final Fantasy 10 maybe. That may be the last one I finished.

I did replay Chrono Trigger recently. I'll give you retro games.

See this is why western games are better, you can play the game as hard or easy as you like. And TEW isn't really hard gameplay wise, there is just not enough fucking ammo.
I work for a living, when I have time to play I don't want to look in every room for boxes with 2 bullets because it involves no skill and is boring.
What really bothers me is, this game could have been great, I had many 9/10 moments.
