Likely because Brinstar Depths was hated with a passion by a good amount of the vocal community. Even without Depths being added again, there's so much they could have done with so many of the Prime areas...yet it all goes to waste.

I think the more likely reason Depths hasn't been brought back since Melee is that Brawl's and Smash 4's character models are bigger than Melee's, which makes an already hard-to-traverse stage even messier. If they really gave credence to fan outcry regarding stages, we wouldn't have 75m.

They had to downgrade every texture of the Mario kart 8 stage, wow. Even the polygon count in some objects is clearly lower.

Dat Mario Kart 8 powerful graphics.

Makes sense when you consider that it's 720p Vs. 1080p, though.

Not just that, there's also a lot more happening on the screen. All fighters + all effects and stuff... Bamco are technical wizards, ha ha.

Then again, it looks that good because it's not really zoomed up during normal gameplay.

I really think they made the wrong decision in regards to the resolution. Should've went 720p for better textures and more polygons (and way more lighting). It's obvious both are lacking. Imo Wii U games running at 720p still looks really good. All the games i've played, SM3DW, MK8, Bayonetta 2, TW101, DKCTF etc. all look wonderful. They all did a great job with upscaling them.

Imo Wii U games running at 720p still looks really good. All the games i've played, SM3DW, MK8, Bayonetta 2, TW101, DKCTF etc. all look wonderful. They all did a great job with upscaling them.

I don't know, considering how frantic this game is, probably the sharper the image, the better.

I reckon they made the right choice. Yes, the backgrounds may look different, but so what? Putting it in 720p would be doing it a disservice.

What's that stage underneath the Super Mario Galaxy one & above Aero Town? That looks like the Kongo Jungle from N64.

Speaking of which, what's the stage with the windmill to the right of the Aero Town & left of Yoshi's Island (Melee)? Doesn't look like the Paper Mario stage from 3DS. OMG WHAT IF IT'S KIRBY EPIC YARN OR YOSHI'S WOOLLY WORLD?!

It *is* Kong Jungle from the N64.

The other stage appears to be one based off of Yoshi's Wooly World.

Wow, & yesterday my friend was all "there's no returning stages from the original".

Interesting that Woolly World is getting a stage, despite not being out yet. Maybe they'll mix in Kirby's Epic Yarn?

I think they made the right decision, considering we're getting 8-player Smash and you can see yourself more clearly on larger levels like Hyrule Temple and such.

Is wooly world the first time smash bros has had a stage for a game that isn't out yet? I know roy was before roy's fire emblem, right? But stage?

I disagree. With how much the game zooms out 1080p is best especially with the 8 player stages. Plus you never really notice the texture work while playing. They might enhance the game while paused for photo mode like the 3ds.

Alot of these shots are great, but I'll be honest: The low texture MK8 Mario Circuit really gets to me >_<

I know it's for 1080p/60fps goodness but in still shots it looks oogly.

Still pumped for this game!

Am I seeing Kongo Jungle from N64 there??? AM I??

I looove that stage...I also hope it opens the possibility of other remade N64 stages (Hyrule Castle, for the love of god). Though the fact that Kongo Jungle was in Melee may have made it easier to port, hence why it is in Smash Bros 4.

MK8 stage will look fine in motion. The hit to textures is so worth the 1080p 60fps.

It's weird seeing Mario Circuit so barebones with bland lighting and textures.
I'm so used to Mario Kart 8's art style :p

By the way, now that I think about it.. how come they worked on a Mario Kart 8 stage but there's no Super Mario 3D World in sight?
You'd think the latter would be a given considering it was finished way before MK8.

Just finished looking all the pics, the game looks so pretty. Seriously i Can't wait, it's going to be such a fun holiday season.
