Her real name is Claire Farron - she just goes by Lightning to "act tough" or something.
Toriyama is a Lightning-fetishist in general. Technically her design is by Nomura though and he likes giving characters big feet (ie: KH characters lol).

In KH's case it was at least done so they fit in a bit better with the Mickey universe characters, but I have no excuses for anything else.

Oh yeah for sure. In Sora's case, it was also because they wanted him to sort of look like Mickey Mouse in a way (like his features).

Yeah, I think her XIII design is fine and one of the better ones in that game. I just didn't really care for the character (I don't outright hate her like some people though).

At least Lightning is only her self imposed codename. The others are actually named that. Hope is a real name at least.. for girls.

You have a point there, I guess. Her reasoning for giving herself a new name was always a little goofy in XIII. She said something like she took on the name Lightning so he could be tougher - she wanted to be strong and a new name helped her do that... or something.
That moment you realize you are way out of one of your favorite gaming series demographics... Oh well.
I do agree that JRPGs are typically made for the teenage audience, but they can still have charm/humor that adults can appreciate (and good battle systems).Snow is a cool last name, but I'm not sure if I agree on it being a first name. Jon Snow is a nice sounding name, though.

They do have some charm, especially design-wise. The battle systems are often pretty good too. The thing that bugs me the most about them is most of the time the story you go through, mostly forgettable. I wish more JRPGs chose a more special kind of story like the one Nier (the version in which you are the dad, not the version in which you play the Brother) tells. I have the same problem with Western RPGs though, they all seem so similar sometimes. There are people who probably would tell me "oh, it doesn't matter as long as the gameplay is fun", but for me a good story is what pulls me through a game. That's why I struggle so much with games like Fantasy Life. I think the little introductory quest for every Life are the only thing that saved it for me because the main story was just so much JRPG cliche "doom stones oh noes by the power of light and friendship" silliness.That moment you realize you are way out of one of your favorite gaming series demographics... And Snow would not make for a great first name, I agree with you. At least not with the combinations of last names I tried out in my head.
