Considering trading PS4 towards XboxOne just because of noise... I have a problem :(

fuck... maybe it is defective then, lol

Sure as hell isn't dusty as I regularly dust/clean off my stuff.

First thing you should test is moving the console out of the entertainment center and see how that affects the noise. If it is still super loud, then it is abnormal. Like I said the only time I've heard my console is when it is installing the games (the disc drive is pretty loud).

Honestly, go to the system you want :)

EDIT: That is to say if it is REALLY loud, that is abnormal and you should consider repairing, but it seems like you are leaning towards an X1.

Sounds like you have a defective unit. I barely hear my PS4 when it's on. The only times I ever hear the internals kicking around is when it's reading from the Blu-ray or installing a game from a physical disc.

I've even had to hold my hand near the vents a few times because it's so quiet that I can't tell if the fans are on or not.

My PS4 is silent besides a brief startup time. During games it's like nothing is there. When I turn on my 360 it becomes hard to breathe from the sheer amount of air moving through the thing at high velocity.

I wouldn't say mine is loud but compare to Xbox One it really is. But that doesnt mean it makes me want to get rid of it. I mean its better than last gen hardware. I dont know why people are making such a big deal out of nothing.

Because it's honestly kind of shitty.

If this was the cooling solution they came up with in order to fit it in that super sexy small box.... well, I just don't think it was worth it.

Then again, who knows, mine might actually be defective :/

I have both a PS4 and a Wii U and sometimes I play 'em with no volume because I occasionally have gigantic headaches (it helps). Both are very quiet, so I really don't get these complains.

Mine is quiet... I can hear it in some games but it is less than PS3 or 360.

It only have a click when it start.

There isn't any question, it is defective. Don't you think this would have been mentioned countless times by everyone on here if this was just the cooling solution that they came up with?

You have a defective PS4, get it fixed or trade it in.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

OP is this you?

But you said you knew it wasn't defective!!!!

Dammit, I could be wrong!

No seriously, i'm a bit skeptical if it is because it seems like for everyone person who says it's whisper quiet, there's another that'll say, "yeah, it's pretty loud at times... oh well, YOLO"

Worst Sony can do is throw you in jail for a false defect claim.

Depends on the game, some games tax the shit out of the system, some are chill (like parity Destiny on my PS4).

I think you personally are better off with X1 though, no sarcasm.

Nope, fairly open TV stand with plenty of room on both the sides and back.

And yes, I don't turn my Golds all the way up (so I can hear if the wife or kids are calling me), so there are instances where the system is working overtime and I can clearly hear it through the headphones :(

If I were you I would just get it replaced. And if that unit isn't any better, THEN consider other options. Because if what you're saying is correct, that sounds like it's defective.

I live in a small apartment. I sit less than 10ft from my PS4 and I can honestly say that I never hear it. My laptop is significantly louder than my PS4. I can hear my fridge in the kitchen which is in another room but I cannot hear my PS4.

Your PS4 is defective.

Why are you reading my tag instead of the title of my post?
can I buy it off you then? I can pay a little more then what they would give you as trade in value.
Yeah OP, let him buy it from you. Spread the love. Also, take the disc out of the tray. If it's not the disc making noise you have a defect.

I wish I had the problem with only 10ft distance. Ever since I went into a store that had a PS4 demo unit set up I've had tinnitus.

Wow man that is rough, you should look into getting it replaced if you are still under warranty because that is definitely a defect.

Mine barely makes any noise at all. I sit about 12 feet from mine and with the volume coming from my TV I can't hear the thing at all....

I can't imagine how loud yours must be to be heard over headphones! Get that stuff looked at bro.

The OP is full of BS. I have yet to see a noisy PS4.

I still have the horrible jet-engine of a 360 from 2006.. and my PS4/XB1 doesn't sound like that.

How the fuck can you hear THAT through your headphones? Either the ps4 is defective/haunted or your headphones are, if they are plugged at all. There's always option C, in which you have super hearing abilities.

I have mine in my bedroom, it's not a huge bedroom and I sit like 4 ft from the tv and the console, can't hear a thing when playing with headphones. And even without them, only a game or two gets the fans to make more noise (SW4 is one of them), so I rarely hear anything annoying enough to complain.

I really think there's something wrong with your ps4. It makes less noise than the ps3 slim, so if you have one and your ps4 is making more noise than that, than I guess there's really something up with your ps4.

Really? Noise? What a stupid reason. Disc drives will always produce noise when they start spinning fast. My PS4 usually winds up the disc to load then quiets down after a bit.

Goodbye OP.

Nah, I genuinely believe people here and do really think it's probably defective.

What's the turnaround for getting it replaced?

My PS4 gets very loud, presumably because of my TV stand. Even louder than my OG 360, but I still cannot hear it through my head phones while the game is outputting sound.

What is this shit? Plenty of people have complained about loud PS4s. Being so ignorant and calling people liars is extremely obnoxious. Don't worry, your PS4 will be okay even if some people have noise issues with theirs.

Just get something that gives off a louder, more annoying noise so the PS4 sounds comparably nicer. Problem solved!

I think mine took two weeks or so. Shipping, testing, and return take some time depending on what is wrong with it. At least they send you a box to ship it in. You can have Fedex pick it up or drop it off at a shipping center.

If you have a smartphone u could download a decibel meter app and compare the db from this

I've heard people on GAF report around 50-53 (like 3 inches from ps4) db under load as well.

I want to say your over-sensitive to noise, but you say you have a kid.

How can you be bothered by the noises of consoles and fridges when you have an irratic noise machine with the ability to move?

Do it, Xbox One has a superior holiday lineup.
Forza Horizon 2, Sunset Overdrive, Ori & Master Chief Collection
Multiplats look just fine on it, Shadows of Mordor looks great for example.
Btw it is whisper quiet, I sometimes forget it's on because it doesn't make a sound.

I'll be getting a PS4 in 2016 when it has more interesting games, Sony consoles take awhile to get quality first party stuff out.

OP, you are either king of hyperbole or there's something seriously wrong with your PS4. I'd unplug it because it sounds like it's about to blow up and take you with it.

The PS4 can be loud, but trust me, it's nowhere near what you're describing. I sit about 5 feet away from mine and I don't hear a thing (no headphone used either)

Well, I had a mandatory hearing test for work and my hearing is still great and I can tell you it's your specific PS4. Mine is not loud, even when the fan is moderately stressed. You need to exchange that out or something.

OP do you startle yourself when you fart?

:p

I can't hear my PS4 at all. I got a white one and had a launch one and could never hear it in my man cave (which is a 9ft by 12ft bedroom).
