Beautiful COLORFUL games.

It's incredible how well Daytona USA has aged.

Yes!

Some gifs I made in the Saturn thread, they are from the 360 HD version:

people love colors so much, just look at those kids buying WiiU like hot cakes, because the colors are so much fun.

I don't get what the point of being obnoxious is unless there's a joke I'm missing? Besides its not like the WiiU or Nintendo consoles in general are the the only systems to get colorful games, there have been plenty examples in this very thread of colorful games on non-Nintendo system.

So using the WiiU's poor sales as some indication that people don't care about colorful games seems strange to me.

Ilomilo

I wish I could find better screenshots of the gem. These screenie do not do it justice. The game itself is so good it could pass for a Nintendo game if one did not know better. It's also the only reason I still have a 360 in my household.

From Alice - Madness Returns, one of my all time favourite games...

Sometimes I forget how colorful that game can be because of how bleak most of it is, but it's truly a masterpiece in the art direction. The artbook from the game is stunning.

he started the thread by taking a shot on games with advanced tech and realistic graphics.

This thread needs more Pikmin.

It's funny you say that... I was going to post this but didn't think it did the game justice.

I wasn't taking a shot at anything. I myself have a reasonably high end gaming PC so that I can have all those aforementioned things. I just wanted to free myself from being the graphics whore that I've become for a little while so I could look at pretty screenshots of colorful games.

Whether or not you think this game is beautiful depends on your tolerance of PS1 3D graphics, but it's clear that the developers understood how to use color effectively.

Spyro the Dragon (and sequels, not pictured)

Also relevant:

Rayman 2 (These are from Revolution, but any version would be applicable)

All screenshots taken from emulators, obviously.

You're comments came off like they were, kids enjoy realistic graphics just as much as colors if not more, most kids favorite game is probably cod franchise and GTAV. Both realistic games and colorful can be fun as long as game plays is good.

Your oversensitivity is not my problem. Also, fun games are good if they play good? Thanks for that startling insight.

If you look at it on a good plasma screen, or an oled if you're that lucky, with the right settings and light condition, it's truly breathtaking. Almost 3dimensional.

OP never said that wasn't the case. This is a thread for appreciating the color in games, not AA/AF/resolution/framerate etc. threads that are a dime a dozen. Why does that call for such defensiveness as demonstrated by bringing Wii U sales discussion into it?

most kids favorite game is probably Minecraft

FTFY.

Looks incredible.

Mario Sunshine, Galaxies and 3d world also have some amazing colors. I really hope that this generation we will see more color in games, as opposed to the last one.

Enough with grey and brown all the freaking time.

I love that FFXIV uses a lot of white itself. It's a "color" that actually hasn't been used much in the FF series (I know white isn't a real "color"). Akihiko Yoshida tends to limit himself to dirty brownish palettes but he did something new with FFXIV, without resorting to animu-colored hair and cheesy clothes.

Everything about that game was gorgeous except the gameplay.

FTFY.

Character designs are okay, you get used to it, and Banjo and Kazooie are the only ones that have a TOTALLY different design (well, maybe Jolly Roger/Dodger too, but whatevs).
The game still looks amazing. It's just that the gameplay really sucks.

And on top of that, even AAA games like Infamous:SS, SO, Fable Legends etc. are very colorful.

This is another incredible difference compared to last-gen's first year(s).

Damn I love the engine EAD are using. Its so clean and really pops. Beautiful looking games.

Same with Rare, Banjo Nuts & Bolts, Viva Pinata! Love me Viva Pinata. Colourful games are always splendid to look at.

Pity about a few asses in the thread though.

I know this isn't really quite what the topic is about but any one have some cool Colors 3D links? For those who do not know, it is a drawing game on 3DS that lets you upload your work online. Like this Chibi Lucina

Back on topic.
I really love the colours in Muramasa. they look fantastic in motion and makes the game a joy to play despite the lack of depth in its combat.
