#GamerGate thread 2: it's about feminism in games journalism

$71,496 of that went to TFYC who are not a charity but hey at least their spite has gotten ~$40,000 to actual charities. Still not worth the storm of hate that GG has unleashed on the world. Still I guess this proves that anti-GG both hates charity and wants surgeons to kill people the world over
joke and that's a ref to Eron's meltdown a few weeks ago

GamerGate is passing this cute little graphic around:

I had to laugh at them saying anti-GG has donated $0. I'm someone they would consider anti-GG and I personally donate 10% of every paycheck to charity, which amounts to a significant portion of what they've given collectively.

What makes me laugh about the $0 image is that you can see they searched google for "zero dollars and zero cents" and took a screencap without bothering to edit out the search terms.

Yeah, it's funny that they say Patreon isn't charity but at the same time say TFYC is. Neither of them are 501(c)(3) to my knowledge. They clearly have no clue what charity is, especially legally defined.

Actualy, they are NOT putting their money where their moth is .... neither of those places are about ethings in game journalism xD

Well taking away TYFC that's $40,000 and my estimate of 10,000 to 20,000 Gaters that's $2-4 dollars average each... I'm pretty sure I've given more than that to charity over the last month I just don't do it because of ethical games journalism (I.e. To cover up gamergates many many problems)

Also, this:

Zoe Quinn doesn't actually sell the game she's accused of sleeping around to get coverage of. It's a free game about Depression, called Depression Quest, created to help others learn to live and deal with the disease. She does take donations, and was accused of lying about giving those donations to charity. However, the charity confirmed the donations were actually received

TL:DR Anti-Gamergate raised money, whatever way you slice it.

I like how they're saying they don't 'weaponize charity' in the same breath that they're saying they're trying to use their donations to make someone else look bad. I mean aside from that goofy google graphic, listing a non-charity, counting donations towards other charities as being just from Gaters. It's truly a brilliant window into a warped mind.

It's like someone parading around for the end of world hunger donating to various charities, but not ones that fight world hunger. Yes, the donations are going to something good and worthwhile, but if you're gonna preach for something, wouldn't it be wise to actually give money to your cause?

It's #NotYourShield all over again, didn't a number of charities tell them to get stuffed? As partyphone asked above and I shall now restate in classic GG tweet style 'Where's your proof this was GGers? Hah knew it #NotAllGGersLikeCharitySomeOfUsJustWantToWatchTheWorldBurn'

Wait.... GG is against weaponizing charity.... so they weaponize charity?

Trying to turn charity donations into some sort of measurement of how moral a group really is, in an attempt to cover up their otherwise prevalent, morally reprehensible behavior, and make "the other side" look bad, isn't the worst thing they've ever done. In fact it's probably the best thing they will ever do.

But there are a lot of people who don't associate with #GG and donate to charities because that's just what we do as people who care for the beings who we share the planet with.

Is #GG trying to say that only #GGers donate or all donaters are #GGers?

I didn't donate to any of the ones they list in that picture if that's what they mean. Then sure, I've donated $0 to things like giving games to kids because I don't think giving games to first world hospitals is all that important to spend my limited funds on.

I choose to give to relief funds and medical research and animal protection instead.

Wait.... GG is against weaponizing charity.... so they weaponize charity?

Well, this is the same movement that previously proved they weren't misogynists by threatening to rape and kill Saarkesian and Quinn for claiming that they were misogynists.

And while I'm far from Mr. Generous, I've paid more money into charity than the average gater. 40K is pretty pathetic for a movement that claims to have hundreds of thousands of supporters.

Yea these tools are on some other level of a delusional echo chamber at this point

Any time someone says "checkmate" unironically outside the context of chess, I die a bit inside.

Using charity donations as a public metric of how good you are, just to spite other people, is incredibly classless and shows no sense of self-awareness or understanding how the world actually works.
So yeah, GG, these weird, ignorant, spiteful people.

Wait, are they using how many people are subscribed on KiA (21k) to say how many people are involved in GG?

Because that's a really poor metric to go by

uhhh. those are just individuals giving money to charity. you can't prove that gamergate did it.

Isn't it amazing how that works? They're so quick to boast of collective action when it's positive, but as soon as it's even vaguely negative, they fall over themselves to tell you how they're not a group, there's no leadership, there are only individuals.

Even when this contradiction is pointed out, they don't get it.

Didn't Giantbomb raise like $200,000 for Extra Life? Doesn't that make a single "anti-GG" website more effective than their entire "movement"?

Even setting aside that TFYC isn't actually a charity, $110K over three months from several thousand people doesn't strike me as a terribly impressive total.

This still blows my mind:

GamerGate was sick of being accused of just being about harassing Zoe Quinn so they decided to donate to a charity. Then they go choose a particular charity* because the person behind it is saying bad things about Zoe Quinn. Good grief.

*not actually a charity, I know

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
So, there's a Social Justice Warrior blocklist on twitter now, comprising some 54,000 people. I'm on it.
On second thoughts, decided not to link directly to it for obvious reasons.

I feel disappointed in myself for somehow not making the SJWautoblock list :<

I guess it's because I stopped engaging much of them recently because none of them are worth my time to talk to. If GG sees this though, feel free to add me to the list.

EDIT: i probably shouldn't link it either =x

It seems to be based purely on who you follow. I rarely engage.

I'm pretty sure most "SJWs" would have absolutely no objection to being deliberately ignored by GamerGaters. If only they had decided to ignore the people they disagree with from the very beginning rather than make them into targets.

Totally. This is like an email spammer telling you he won't send you any more email.

Yeah, I don't even Tweet and I'm on it because all of my friends are feminists. I actually feel pretty good that the people I hung out with on the internet eight years ago when I made my account are today all socially conscious enough to spook reactionary MRAs into automatically blocking me.

I'm on that list, sweet. Makes me feel good that potentially a few more assholes who might feel the need to interact with me won't.

Origin story behind it is super creepy though.

And now GG is mad because the official Raspberry Pi Twitter account is using ggautoblocker.

Cue hordes of people who wouldn't know the first thing to do with a Raspberry Pi proclaiming their intention to no longer buy one, as well as lists of alternative products. Gamergate was secretly a collective of Raspberry Pi enthusiasts all along, but no longer! I expect the Raspberry Pi Foundation to feel the cold edge of the Gamergate boycott cut even deeper than it did to Intel and Gawker - both companies since pushed to the brink of insolvency.
