Uncharted 4 Gameplay Demo [Up: Sony - Was running at 30 fps]

So is it gonna be 60fps or 30fps? Seems a bit unprofessional to claim 60 and then show the game running at 30. I believe in optimization as much as anyone else, but doubling the framerate in a year?
Running above 15fps in prealpha is often an achievement.

Huh. OK. Well, I'll just move on, then, because rational views are clearly not welcome.

I think people really need to look at that E3 reveal. There is so much going on their graphically that was never going to happen. The environment deformation, the insanely high quality bokeh DOF, the quality of his hair, the way everything interacts with the water realistically and how it actually accumulates and drips from the character and objects, the foliage and lighting and post processing... it's all massively, massively higher quality than what we should expect to see on these consoles or even a high-end PC. Especially if we want it running at 60fps.

Or we can ignore all of that and look at skin textures (that may or may not even be in a real-time cutscene) and say there's no difference!

Don't get me wrong. I'm excited for this game. I think it looks fantastic even in its current state. I just don't think we should kid ourselves here.

Why don't you show some of those "massive" differences, then? Because the character model seems to be the same as the E3 trailer.

I'm primarily a PC Gamer, I'm not a fan of Uncharted either but what I saw in this demo looked really great, to the point I might ask a friend to lend me their PS4 so I can play this even.

The game was NEVER gonna look like the above posted pics and run on PS4, I feel sorry for people who thought the game would ever look like that outside of prerendered cutscenes.

Fuck, looks amazing. I love that combat arena too! It's huge and there are tons of options, and the improved stealth, platforming, and hand to hand...too good.

Also, ND continue to create the best vistas in gaming.

I've captured those 2 from youtube, it's amazing how those skin textures look:

Wow looks great

Ok, that looked quite impressive. The scale, the environmental detail, the new possibilities... It all sounds like a true evolution of Uncharted gameplay formula.

Climbing animations still look a bit off at times, but hey.

Well that's a classic, people have some expectations, they get disappointed with whatever you show them and once the dust settles the hype goes up again. I think it looked absolutely fantastic.

Looked like a UC2/UC3 1080p remaster with vegetation density dialed up. Textures specifically looked like repurposed PS3 shit.

Looks really nice but I had pretty high expectations.

Some solid improvements from UC3 but I didn't see anything really major that's going to really freshen up the gameplay. Looks like another Uncharted game.

The AI seemed like a big improvement but we'll see what happens when people get an actual hands-on with it.

Think for a second about what he means.

Considering the hardware capabilities, Uncharted games on the PS3 were more impressive than this, is what he's saying. Relative graphical output vs. hardware power.

I'm not sure I agree with him, though. People think the PS4/XBO are much more powerful than they apparently are.

Yep. Typical game trailer BS, but no one is going to throw a shit storm because it's Naughty Dog and not Ubi or EA.

Can't wait to play it tho

I wasn't aware that the game is still in pre-alpha. Then I will give them the benefit of the doubt. If this is able to run close to locked 60 for most of the time it's quite the achievement.

I wanted to dominate the living room. Then I took an ESRAM in the knee.
This e3 footage seems almost like CGI. The current footage is nothing like it. So ppl saying its a massive downgrade has some merit.

I think the different light conditions in the trailer and the gameplay are deceiving. When you look closely at the environment in the trailer, you can see that stones and water are as non-CG looking as in the gameplay demo.

Which I think is a fair trade. There's no use in wasting resource on such subtle details for the gameplay model when the player will almost never see those details while playing. It would be a waste.

Yeah, I'm not really complaining, just trying to explain the difference between ULTRA SUPER ANTI-ALIASED OMG cutscene at E3 and the actual targeting for 1080p/60fps gameplay with big open environments and set pieces and individual elements flying around. I think its gonna look very impressive, and better yet play really well with the higher resolution and framerate like The Last of Us Remastered did.

Just people expecting Uncharted 4 to be DEM GRAPHICS might want to look towards The Order or some shit.

I feel this game needs a reinvention. I see all this climbing and I'm already knowing I won't enjoy it this time. Uncharted 2 easily got my GOTY vote on GAF, but Uncharted 3 bored me halfway through, same with the Vita opus, which I started in January and never completed.

If only they could go back to the purity of U2's online mode, now it would remove all my concerns.

As for the single player mode, so far it looks like U4 suffers from some kind of NSMBU syndrom.

Not necessarily doubling. It's quite possible that the game is currently fluctuating between 40 and 60 a lot right now, and they may have just decided to do a locked 30 for this presentation to avoid all that.

What is wrong with some people? Is this thread for real?

I don't know what people were expecting I guess...

The gameplay looks varied and fun.

Corrinne Yu has a tweet a while back about the frametimes for TLoUR. I did the math and it was running at 15fps a couple weeks before launch. I'm guessing ND toned down some effects to get it to 30 for demo purposes. Here's hoping they're still going for 60.

Looked pretty enough but the gameplay seemed kind of shallow...was really expecting something new and I was waiting for the big set piece they normally show when demo Uncharted. Remember the crumbling hotel and helicopter attack demo? Disappointed nothing gripped me.

Halo CE's frame rate was almost unplayable six months before the release date.

I think it looks absolutely amazing. I mean - look at that vegetation. And that terrain - how complex it is. And those faces. If this is as good as it gets visually this gen, I'm going to be perfectly satisfied.

Hair and lighting fidelity definitely isn't as good as the reveal teaser. They still have quite a bit of time to match it though.

^ Obviously they are different locations and lighting conditions. Can't be serious right?

Exact same quality. So good.
