Destiny really doing great business. Shitty DLC or no, I'm glad it continues to do well.

Anyone else remember back in October time when we were seeing posts about how the game wouldn't have legs and would be out of the charts altogether by November? :p

Good times.

Who is making money from these deals?!

Probably not Microsoft, lol... Though there is something amusing about them now basically begging people on the street to buy their console (Sorta).

I've honestly never seen a games console being pushed so aggressively in all my years of gaming.

Feels like MS has gone all in with the UK/US, win holiday season at any cost. Build enough market share and coast on those two territories the rest of the gen.

I expect the price to stay low until they pass PS4 ltd in those regions.

Short term not Microsoft; but I imagine they will longer term. Microsoft are probably expecting the average user to purchase an extra 8-10 games during the life of the console and that is how they will get the money back.

An "average user's" attach rate isn't that high.

Yeah I think they are doing all they can to stay at 50/50 market share in those two territories. It was pretty telling they only mentioned US and UK in their NPD press release. Those seem to be the only two markets they care about maintaining.

If things continue like this I feel Sony might be forced into a pricedrop in April after their fiscal year is over.

It would be interesting to see how prone to buying full retail prices these people are. They made a steal to get the console but how willing are they to buy at the £45/$60-price point. I doubt that all of the buyers are consumers they want.

I see many posts telling that Dragon Age is undershipped, sold out and therefore only falling out of Top Charts due not being available. Do we have some facts/solid info on this, or is it just wishful thinking and/or anecdotal?

Great game, hope it recovers in sales.

It was last week. Was fine this week on Amazon and Game and it did climb combined format charts. If it was under shipped, they fucked up.

Where did Xbox One go in Sweden? It did launch a year late, but it's still crazy having one of the bigger consoles completely absent from top 20.

Pretty sure it's rise is directly linked to the heavy bundling.

It was tumbling out of the charts prior to that if I recall correctly.
It did go from out of the charts to top 10 (+999%) the week of the bundling.

They may not or may not be related.

It came and went with Halo. Next time it will pop up is when Halo 5 is released. Until then it's missing in action. Still haven't met anyone who owns it here. Well, one guy, but he got it for free during a developers conference and sold it.

Honestly I think its got little to do with games.

Its clear live fees are the cash cow here. Microsoft knows that most multi console owners are not going to pay for two subscriptions and right now, the PS4 is edging a significant lead on that front.

They need to get as many XBOs in homes as possible to protect that revenue stream, especially as the active subscription base from the 360 is slowly dying off.

Making money of the games is great but it cannot be relied upon as annual revenue. Even 8-10 games a generation only amounts to 2 on average a year and that really is at the higher end of attach rates.

Knowing that most XBO users are pretty much set to give them £40 a year no matter what releases is far more attractive and requires more aggressive tactics to protect.

While the 360 and PS3 still may have some life in them in regards to a player base and even consoles sold, more and more of the core market (the market guaranteed to pay the online subscription fee) is moving on. The people who are still playing on their 360s are the ones that dont mind letting their subscriptions lapse every so often and may have lost interest in multiplayer full stop.

‘FIFA 15’ (-21%) remains at No1 in the run-up to Christmas and the Top 5 remains the same, with Activision’s ‘Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’ at No2 (-27%), Rockstar/Take 2’s ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ at No3 (-22%), Ubisoft’s ‘Far Cry 4’ at No4 (-13%) and Warner’s ‘Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham’ at No5 (-29%).

Ubisoft’s ‘Just Dance 2015’ jumps 5 places to No6 (+11%) and is extremely popular on Wii with 66% of sales on that format - the title is now also No1 on the All Formats Budget Chart. Activision’s ‘Destiny’ jumps 7 places to No9 (+29%) with PS4 and Xbox One editions proving extremely popular. There’s no All Formats Top 40 debut for the 2 formats of ‘Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris’ but the title debuts at No17 on PS4 and No14 on PC.

Well, Xbone owners really love Lara Croft.

I seemed to remember it was around that - is it nearer 6?

The launch period attach rate was running at just over 3 from reports but the longer game is more important.

Here's some old articles from 2008 in which the attach rate is over 6 for the 360 (comparing the same release period sales - it was around 8 in reality but was on sale for longer at that time) and just under 6 for the PS4 to give you an idea.

Link Here and here.

The question is, IF MS is loosing money on the hardware which no-one can really tell, do they make it up in the attach rate over the life of the console?

I always thought that the 360 had a better attach rate than the PS3 but I don't have current stats - I just thought that was one of the defining charactersitics of the MS purchaser, that they bought more games.

I always thought that the attach rate was always higher on the 360 because it had the better versions of most game.

I don't think a large segment of the market really is an MS purchaser or Sony purchaser anyway, they just get what they consider to be the better console of the two and the massive swing to PS4 kind of shows that. The homogenising of the titles on both consoles between last generation and this one has probably helped there.

NPD had the 360 at a higher attach in the US, which MS always made reference to.

However, I'd be kinda surprised if that held up WW, with the 360 being far easier to pirate on. Although I'm not sure we'll ever know since I don't think MS has ever given software unit sales.

Dunno... have they taken to the streets to try to convince people to buy it?

To be fair, in birmingham at least, where the Xbox experience bus (I had no idea they were giving out vouchers at the time) was set up, Sony had a stall a week earlier in the same spot promoting the Xperia phones with a driveclub remoteplay booth.

Not exactly the same thing, but yeah.
