AC Unity Patch 4 is now rolling out

JohnnyFootball

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.
Why? They had to update and replace content in the game to make areas run better. Perfectly normal to do this in all avenues of software development.

If patch sizes like this become the norm (and there are signs this is the case) then people with bandwidth caps could be affected.

Not to mention I can only get 15Mbps which means these patches take a while.

The fact that this had to happen in the first place is ridiculous.

Sorry, I alway forget about you heroes out there with capped connections. Didn't mean to be a dick about it.

People should really get off the negative bandwagon and (assuming this actually fixes the things it promises) give this game a go. I completed it (no forced micro transactions, why do people make this stuff up?!) and thoroughly enjoyed it, only AC i've liked since the first!

So let's test this shit out. What are some notoriously poorly performing areas in the game? Obviously there's the huge crowd in front of Notre Dame, but where else?

even if it does improve things its still "LOL ubisoft sux!"

When the game detects a low frame rate, it automatically streams in the version of Paris from the PS1 game Rugrats in Paris.

bastille when
arno escapes from prison
had some noticeable frame drops for me. i don't have the game anymore but i think its sequence 2?

Not sure if I'll benefit from this patch really. I finished the main campaign in the last few days and I'm doubtful that I'll make it back in to do the collectathon that remains

not wasting bandwidth on this. I already platinumed the game and I learned my lesson about opening a game with such shady review embargoes. ubisoft can continue to fuck off.

Looks fairly smooth, but I'm not sure how taxing that area is. I haven't played the game yet, but if the performance is acceptable now and it gets a good sale, I may pick it up.
As soon as I spawned I walked to that area and triggered the alert so that as many npcs as possible in that area would get scared and do the whole "oh no danger run away" thing.

Really fast impressions from 5 mins walking around Paris. It definitively feels smother now. Still theres some drops in the big crowded areas, not as much as before. Still need to check the most problematic areas.

I dont see any other changes btw, still NPC pop-in, same (or almost the same) NPC countdown, same long ass loading times... and still no Club competitions (I know DLC wasnt about that but come the fuck on...)

Can you check Notre Dame or other cities that cripples the framerate to see if there is an improvement? If you don't mind that is.

Insane patch size. This gen is a fucking mess.

Higher visual quality in games = more data, it's inescapable

Also, I'd imagine that since they're refurbishing parts of the game world, which is supposed to heavily use baked lighting (likely baked global illumination), they've had to rebake a significant chunk of that lighting, if not all of it. Baked lighting contributes massively to file size, but it's a trade off for a better looking and better running game.

I'll be happy if this patch does what they claim. I was really excited by this game, as I am every year with AC.

It sucks that I bought it digitally, and for $60. And it sucks that I never played it much. Getting a patch that makes it better might get me to play it, which is kind of like getting a new game that I was looking forward to after all.

Patch nearly installed, going to load up the mission with
Arno in prison because the frame rate was atrocious there
. I'll let you know what it's like.

Was the boat chase scene problematic prior to the patch? I mean performance wise?
Not for me but I have seen LP videos where the framerate drops during that chase.

USB transfers are so slow. >.<

i didn't show them anything, I bought a glitchy game that never should have been released in the first place.

But you Platinum'd it... It must not have been that bad in your mind.

Bandwidth caps are an absolute joke, I'm sorry for people that have to deal with them. Although upgrading to this gen probably isn't the best idea if you have to deal with caps and crap. It's very possible it will be the norm.

Good on them for releasing this patch though, I thought they'd just wait for the hate to die down and just ignore it. Too bad I already finished the game though, never ran into any issues and frame-rate was alright (outside of huge crowds).
