1. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
By far the best soundtrack I've heard this year. I could honestly write an essay examining the all the intricate details of the instrumentation and how the music tells it's own story (very noticeable on the 3rd Island), but for now I'll just say that the soundtrack is perfect!

Notable Tracks:
Credits (Uncut Version)
Amiss Abyss
Busted Bayou
Frosty Fruits (In a Snow-bound Land remix)
Wing Ding
Grassland Groove
Frozen Frenzy

2. Mario Kart 8
Live instruments in a Mario Kart game? Yes please!

Notable Tracks:
Mute City
Moo Moo Meadows
Rainbow Road 64
Mt Wario
Bowsers Castle
Electrodrome

3. Tengami
What can I say, I love me some David Wise!

Notable Tracks:
The Awakening
Crimson Leaves

Aerobatics

1. Transistor
2. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
3. Bravely Default

Honorable Mentions: Smash, Persona 4. Those soundtracks are great but consist mostly of remixes and teamsters.

LTTP: Kid Icarus Uprising, that boss theme for doe.

All of the following games just wouldn't be as good without those glorious soundtracks.

1. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Glad to see that, at the time I post this, this OST might actually win. Unfairly snubbed by the press.

2. Drakengard 3
Most argued this wasn't as good as Nier's OST, but I actually preferred this one. Great mix of string instruments, and can get pretty hectic and chaotic. Bought the CD.
Exhaustion 3
The Last Song
This Silence Is Mine (not sure if this counts)

3. Shovel Knight

Yet another incredible soundtrack from Virt/Jake Kaufman. This soundtrack perfectly conveys what each level represents and is pretty wide on the range of feelings. This is the soundtrack of an old retro game, but you can feel it has been made with modern sensibilities and instruments, and that's make all of this so good.
The tribute album "Strike the Earth! Shovel Knight Arranged" is pretty awesome as well, definitely worth a listen.
Strike The Earth
La Danse Macabre
The Fateful Return

Honourable mentions:

Senran Kagura 2:
Senran Kagura is a series generally underrated, and particularly its various soundtracks. SK2 is my favorite game of the series, and it has my favorite soundtrack as well. I'm sure most people that never played the games but already had an opinion won't expect that.
(Disc 3) of the SK2 collector edition first print bonus.
track 2(opening) : 光と闇の彼方(半蔵 ver.)
track 8 : 善忍の誇り (low quality link)
track 11 : 刀と盾が目指すもの (low quality link)

Mario Kart 8:

N64 Rainbow Road
Obligatory Mute City

(plus some others like Smash Bros, Tengami, Hyrule Warriors, Persona Q and Wolfenstein. Just wanted to particularly highlight the two above.)

LTTP:
Code of Princess: Since the game only got a digital release in Europe, and nearly never got any sale, I always pushed back listening to this OST until now. It was partly better than I expected (variation in tone and instruments, really explicit in what each theme is representing, etc) but also a bit worse (some tracks are actually similar, and it never gets that special something to get above a 8/10 rating).
勉強しまっせぇ (Maruneko Shop)
悲しみの決意
聖なる姫君 GtVer (bonus track)

Will edit a bit this post soon.

Man, I got some listening to do again this year. But I have my LTTP vote already picked out.

I wanted to contribute to this thread but then I remembered that I haven't played many 2014 games this year and that would be unfair for those games that I haven't been able to complete yet. I'm interested in what everyone has to say, though, so I'll read your posts.

Remember: you don't have to PLAY the game to HEAR it. :D

I wouldn't mind if you just stuck an LTTP vote in without voting for 2014 soundtracks, tbh. This thread is less strict than the GotY thread in terms of formatting mostly because I'm counting by hand/via spreadsheet than by a parser.

I'm more interested in reading what people have to say and having people talk about their fave tracks and soundtracks.

For the curious, Virt/Jake Kaufman has an account as well.

Perfect tag, too.

Fucking
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze.
Not much else to say which hasn't already been said. It's also my GotY.
Amiss Abyss/Funky Waters
Big Top Bop
Seashore War
2.Super Smash Bros for Wii U
Specifically Wii U since almost all the 3DS songs are in this game.
Gear Getaway
Magicant / Eight Melodies
Menu (Melee)
3.Danganronpa 2 Goodbye Despair.
Much like Smash, choosing the sequel since most of the first game's songs are there.

that puzzling face
It's a game soundtrack, so it should be judged in the context it was made for.

3DS is my first Nintendo console, and I have all of two games for it.

I sure as heck have not been leaving Nintendo platform games out of my evaluations over the years. Such a rich culture.

Not to mention it's virtually not possible to play every single game that comes out. Just. No. Which then subscribes to the whole 'oh let me just vote for games I've played' rather than _____ which is objectively good which is a really shitty trend on GAF (and in general) best-of list threads.

Yes I know how this sounds after I nominate Fantasia for my #3 with the disclaimer that you have to have played it to believe it

Edit: Had time to do some better write ups and add a LTTP choice

1. Armored Hunter Gunhound EX - The is a low key choice. It may not be the complete package that some of the other top selections are, but there's one thing that this soundtrack excels at comparitively, and that's rocking your face in. If Shovel Knight is a tribute to the 8-bit Mega Man style NES chiptune sound, then Gunhound EX is like modern day callback to Thunder Force/Mega Man X-esque, 90' headbanging, over the top, synth metaling, courtesy of former Technosoft composer Hyakutaro Tsukumo (of Thunder Force V/Hyper Duel/Blast Wind fame). That type of music is straight up my alley, so I've listened to this more than anything else this year.

Songs:
Howling of Metal Hound
Fate of Soldier
Big Pain
The Atonement
The Last Howling -The Justice Ray Part.5-

2. Shovel Knight - Just preaching to the choir. Enough will be said about how great it is by the end of this. As a lover of Mega Man/Capcom NES style music, there was plenty to enjoy here. There also seemed to be a lot of 8-bit Castelvania influence present in several of the more eerie, melancholy tracks.
Jake Kaufman is great as usual, and the extra additions by Manami Matsumae show that she hasn't lost her touch and that she was in sync with the stuff that Jake was doing.

Songs:
Strike the Earth
In the Halls of the Unsurper
High Above the Land
A Thousand Leagues Below

3. Astrebreed - This one came out of left field for me. I was presently surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The tone of the music in this games seems to shift between relaxing/upbeat and frantic. It reminds me a lot of G Rev type shmup music (Strania comes to mind).

Songs:
The Void
Headwinds
Armageddon

Honorable Mention: Bravely Default - Great battle themes in particular.

Songs:
Infiltrating Hostile Territory
Fighting to the End
That Person's Name Is

LTTP: La-Mulana - I was debating on giving this to SMT IV or this game, and I chose this since SMT IV probably got it's due more. I personally prefer the original old school tracks to the remake tracks, but nonetheless, there is lot of great music in this game.

Songs:
Fearless Challenger
Moonlight Dance

I understand the point about judging music without playing the game but I usually change my opinion of certain themes when I hear them in context. My first impression of some tracks is a very luckwarm one when I hear them from a ripped OST but when I finally play the game where they come from they click with me and become instant favourites and then I can love them out of context too, so that's why I prefer to judge soundtracks from games I've completed. I won't be so fussy with the GOTY list because I like the affinity charts and recommendation stuff but I feel like I can't make a honest list here.

I've already decided what game will receive my LTTP mention and what I've just told is what happened.

1. Child of Light - This wasn't quite my favorite soundtrack of the year, but it's my #1 selection for reasons that'll become evident in a moment. Anyway, CoL! I love how piano- and strings-heavy the OST is. Child of Light is a game that'll stick with me for a long time, and the music is like 80% of the reason why.

Woods Darker Than Night - This track kinda reminds me of It Was Always You, Helen from Candyman.
Pilgrims on a Long Journey
Aurora's Theme

2. Bayonetta 2 - I actually felt Bayonetta 2's soundtrack was a bit of a disappointment compared to the first game's, and if I could vote for Bayonetta 1 as my #1 choice, I would. BUT! The kind folks at Platinum gave me a nice loophole by including a lot of the best music from the first game in the sequel. So while this is officially a vote for Bayonetta 2, it's really a stealth vote for Bayonetta 1. SUCKERS!

In the Choice Between Good and Evil
One of a Kind
You May Call Me Father

And just to be nice, I'll include some of my favorite tracks new in B2.

Tomorrow is Mine
The Legend of Aesir
Noatun: The Church

3. Shovel Knight - I like the part where he uses the shovel.

Flowers of Antimony (The Explodatorium)
La Danse Macabre (Lich Yard)
A Thousand Leagues Below (Iron Whale)

To elaborate on what I said, I agree it's not for everyone (you really have to have a passion for music or more specifically music for the medium to actively seek out soundtracks) but saying you *have* to have played a game to be able to judge its music is sheer bollocks.

I mean, if you wanted to take it a step further, why not say "since one of the fundamental problems of game music is repetition, you only get to judge if the music works in the context of 200 hours of repeated play, if you've actually played the game for 200 hours, yourself, instead of being able to objectively discern if that would be a problem"

Because that's pretty much the same thing, taken to its extreme regarding 'context' and 'game music'.

I'll accept that as a funny LTTP vote. Really, I don't mind. :lol

Glad to see some mentions of Tengami and D4 in here too. Really really enjoyed Tengami's soundtrack when I listened to it a few months ago. David Wise fans should probably give it a listen. He's usually known for his ambience (despite dabbling in a looot of other genres), and some GAF members know how I feel about Wise and DKC altogether (I know Nocturnowl will bring it up like he always does :p), but I came out really liking the soundtrack by the end of the game. I only played Tengami because Touch Arcade had a pretty decent review for it, and it's a cute diversion on mobile with some good puzzles.

a1028383329_1054ul2.jpg

I feel like the music slightly justified my purchase of the game on my phone for me, and a lot of the ambience and general ties to an Asian flair worked for it. Honestly, the first track I was pointed to before I played the game itself was The Pale Moonlight. I think what helped is that it didn’t make the ambience its main hook; I think the utilization of other instruments that we don’t normally hear Wise use helped a lot to give additional flair to the entire soundtrack itself. Listening to something new coupled with something old in this track felt like a genuinely new experience, one that I didn’t really expect.

Into the Darkness kind of goes back to the general “DKC” sound that we all know, but again, I feel like, despite the fact that the plucking might sound monotonous to a lot of people casually listening to the soundtrack, there’s extra flavour in here. It breaks the monotony for me. The same would go for Blossoms Falling, where this time the synth and ambience take more precedence but the movements throughout the tracks in addition to its backing make the track to die for.

My favourite track is most certainly Frozen in Time. I love the percussion at the beginning, and the addition of some of the synth strings. The ambience and mood completely make the theme, but the thing that stands head-and-shoulders above everything else is that hard percussion. It’s not often that we get a string/percussion mashup like this disintegrating into Wise-like synth in a mobile game, so I took the moment to relish in that.

I think we have to recall that Tengami is a game that’s essentially inspired by Japanese pop-up book. It has a lot of staff that worked on stuff like Diddy Kong Racing, Star Fox Adventures, and Way of the Samurai 2, but it feels different, and I think that’s why I kinda think it’s neat.

Nota Bene: The interview that Wise did with The Ongaku here. For someone who hasn’t had much experience in using Chinese and Japanese instruments at all as he has noted here, I think a lot of it was done fairly well even if most of it was synthetic. If he ever does something like Tengami in terms of theme again, I hope he touches a real Koto and manages to work with one authentically.

I'll have more words to say about D4's two discs much, much later. ;)

1. Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

I don't think I've ever heard a soundtrack comparable to this one. It's weird. It's great. It's different. It's all kinds of things and they all fit the game. Helped greatly with the atmosphere and the shifts in intensity in the game, the investigations, the trials. Caught me by surprise as well, I bought this game in May and was not disappointed one bit.

Main Theme
Monokuma's Lesson
Mr. Monokuma's Extracurricular Lesson
Box 15
Discussion -HEAT UP-
New World Order
Beautiful Dead

2. Transistor

Another game I had no idea about prior to its release day. Man did I fall in love with its soundtrack. Fits the game like a glove, nice variety while keeping a unified tone, the vocal tracks are great... overall, an amazing soundtrack.

We All Become
Paper Boats
The Spine
Water Wall
Apex Beat
Coasting
Sandbox

3. Super Smash Bros. Wii U

I've got to give to give this soundtrack at least a point for its amazing collection of songs and the many new great remixes. I'll let two new games get the most points, but it just had to be on my list.

Main Menu
Jungle Level Jazz Style
MegaMan 2 Medley
Battle! Team Flare
King Dedede's Theme Ver. 2

Honourable Mentions: Persona Q, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, The Last of Us: Left Behind, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze.

The Last of Us: Left Behind had some of my favourite songs all year, however there were only a few tracks and I felt like giving the exposure to the others I named. I did not play enough DKC to appreciate all of the songs, but I loved what I did hear from it. Persona Q and P4AU had a few songs of their own that were really good but again, too few new tracks to knock off one listed above (to be hair I haven't finished Persona Q. There actually might be tons of new songs The third floor of the second dungeon has an amazing track).

LTTP vote: Persona 4 Golden

1. Final Fantasy X HD

Voting this number one is sort of strange as before replaying the HD versions I was already a huge fan of the original soundtrack and still listen to it often but still think it is my favourite from this year. Evident from the “Prelude” it seems like they stuck some bells and whistles on to the tracks just to make them seem different. “Wandering” and “Final Battle” are two of my favourites from the original soundtrack but unfortunately a lot of the atmosphere they had has been lost in this this version while some other changes such as those used for “Yuna’s Decision” actually sound great. I would choose the original over this as a whole but think this in some ways just offers a different variation to an already incredible soundtrack.

Yuna's Decision
At the End of the Abyss
Servants of the Mountain

2. Ys Celceta

(EU) Having heard some tracks from previous entries while never actually getting round to playing any of the games in the series I finally started with this and the music was one of the reasons I thoroughly enjoyed the game as much as I did. I don’t think every song was excellent but from the moment that you step out into the Beast Plains and “Burning Sword” starts playing many others memorable tracks come one after the other. Running around various areas of the map exploring for long periods just because the music of that particular area was so enjoyable was the reason I 100% complete the map without really seeking to do so. I have to get round to the other entries in the series sometime soon.

Burning Sword
Seeking the Vanished Mask
Foliage Ocean in Celceta

3. Dark Souls II

I enjoy the different balance of music the Souls series. The screeching and thumping of the chaotic boss battles is evident throughout but often this is tamed in a way that has a great sound. I always enjoy how the places of rest contrast with boss battles but in the case of “Fire Keepers” is still able to keep a similar atmosphere.

Fire Keepers
Old Dragon Slayer
Nashandra

Honourable mentions: Shovel Knight - reminded me of the old Zelda games which I have great fondness for.
Smash Bros - fantastic collection of tracks.
Child of Light - Great style and soundtrack but didn't enjoy the game all that much.

Now to try and figure out my GOTY list..

3. Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky
Sky of Twilight
Colony Collapse Disorder

I know what you're thinking. That second song sounds like dogshit, doesn't it? I'm inclined to agree. I think the entire song is dogshit. What the fuck is even happening 18 seconds in?

But this song encapsulates the frustration I had fighting the boss this music plays. Pictures this; it's been a week since Escha & Logy came out on English-speaking shores, most people are still only halfway, almost no one is aware of the true boss the game offered. But here I am, fighting this dipshit. The dipshit that I am, I missed an item that I would have no access to until I play the game again. I wasn't having any of that. I wanted to beat the boss with what I currently had. I didn't really need the item but it made my fight a lot harder without. The hours I've spent fighting this shit to a standstill. The hours I've wasted on letting this shit song hit my eardrums.

I gave up in the end. I decided to forget this boss and just tackle it again on my second run where I can optimize my equipment further. Fucking terrible this whole thing was.

You know, screw all you guys who reserve posts and come back to it later. I'm reading the tail end of this thread and I'm not going to bother sifting every single page every time I open the thread just to see if Your Highness(es) got off his/her ass(es) to edit posts. Threads are last-post-at-end for a practical reason.

The Assassin's Creed: Freedom Cry soundtrack is easily my favorite of the year and it's a shame how Ubisoft cut up the music because it does a disservice to how great the music is. Since this is the only game I'm going to mention, I'm just going to post links to all my favorite songs from the soundtrack:

The Root
False Paradise
A Boat To Freedom
Attack At Sea
On To Freedom
High Seas

I really hope that Olivier Derivier works on a big project one day. He always seems to work on games that get little to no attention and he's way too talented to not have his music heard by as many people as possible.

I don't usually do Soundtrack of the Year threads, but what the hell, I'll do one this time around.

a1186907121_2.jpg

1) Freedom Planet
Admittedly the other ones are probably marginally better, but this game has a damn fine soundtrack that is going to be completely and utterly swamped by the other two in my list simply because everyone already knows them already, so up to the top it goes. The soundtrack's almost entirely done by Leila "Woofle" Wilson, who also remixed the soundtrack for the Steam release of Bunny Must Die. This one's more original work from her than remixing, but it turns out she's actually pretty good at her task! Every stage has at least two themes, borrowing the Sonic 3 & Knuckles motif of every sub-level getting its own take on the stage's overall song. It even gets a bit of mileage out of leitmotifs, if only for the villain Lord Brevon (who gets a suitably chilling leitmotif for a surprisingly well-written and utterly heartless character).

Highlights include:

a3801413220_2.jpg

2) Shovel Knight
Virt always does a good job with his soundtracks, although I must give him special commendation for this one. Not only is it fairly compositionally interesting, making even heavier use of leitmotifs than Freedom Planet does (he gets a lot of mileage out of remixing the title theme, in particular), but it's entirely done on Konami's VRC6 sound chip for the Famicom, a real testament to just how far Yacht Club Games went to make the game look and feel like an NES title (albeit one with parallax, widescreen, a few extra colors... well, at least the sound is 100% authentic!). No joke, he even put up an .NSF rip right on the Bandcamp page for people into emulated music files, and it's nigh identical to the music in the game. Even got Mega Man [1] composer Manami Matsumae to contribute a couple of tracks, which fit in seamlessly with the rest. A real love-letter to chip tunes.

Highlights include:

tumblr_inline_ncu4dwwTNv1qldhit.jpg

3) Super Smash Bros. [4]
Mostly remixes of older Nintendo tracks, including older remixes of older Nintendo tracks, but when Nintendo has this much good music to remix, who can fault them? This deserves a spot on the overall list for one basic fact: it has "Id (Purpose)" and "Gaur Plain" on the same soundtrack. Granted, they're both cut-down versions, but otherwise, what more could a guy want?

Highlights include:

Xenoblade-Chronicles.jpg

LttP 1) Xenoblade Chronicles
2011's Soundtrack of the Year continues to impress. Admittedly I started my run through this game after moving out of my parent's basement into my own condo in late 2013, but the bulk of my playtime was spent in 2014, so I'm counting it. Six different composers, and yet for the most part you can't really tell who did what just from a cursory listen (well, beyond "Time to Fight", which is so blatantly Yoko Shimomura that it could pass for an unused Kingdom Hearts track). Granted, Manami Kiyota and ACE+ (CHiCO and Tomori Kudo being "ACE", Kenji Hiramatsu being "+") actually did the bulk of the soundtrack, but given I'd never heard the work of these guys before, it's a very strong showing to first come upon them with.

It has a wide variety of styles, too, from the upbeat "Gaur Plain", the slow and enchanting "Satorl the Shimmering Marsh - Night", the playful "Makna Forest" or "Frontier Village", the intimidating "Alcamoth, Imperial City", the frosty "Snowy Valak Mountain" (or even its more soulful "Night" variation), the somber "Into Deadlands", the wondrous "Mechonis Field" or the triumphant "we're coming to kick your aaaaaaass" themes for "Central Arsenal" or "To the Last Battle"; various rocking battle themes like "An Obstacle in Our Path"/"One Who Gets In Our Way", "Mechanical Rhythm", "You Will Know Our Names" or "
Zanza
", or finishing up with the more ethereal "
The God-Slaying Sword
"; or even incidental pieces like "Engage the Enemy", "Crisis", "Sorrow", "Mystery", "Tragic Decision", "While I Think...", or the obvious best track in the game, "Riki, the Legendary Hero", before wrapping it all up with a token Yasunori Mitsuda song, "Beyond the Sky" (which isn't as energetic as his Chrono Trigger/Cross work, but still a fitting end to the whole shebang).

Really, I can't overstate how great this soundtrack is. Its spot atop 2011's SotY was well-earned.

Highlights include: I suppose I'm going to have to link every single song I listed up there, aren't I?

tumblr_inline_ndtf2qC0Cc1r8f8tm.jpg

LttP 2) Fire Emblem Awakening
Okay, fine, so only Xenoblade actually counts for my LttP vote. But I'm giving mention to this one regardless.

I actually haven't finished this one yet (only up to Chapter 21 or so), but it's got a fairly strong showing for what I have seen. My first encounter with the game's soundtrack was the admittedly amazing final stage theme, "Id (Purpose)", but the basic stage tracks are also quite catchy. A lot of recurring leitmotifs throughout the game, too, and not just the traditional Fire Emblem theme any Smash fan is surely familiar with by now (I mean, it's in there, it had to be, but still), although I'm not 100% what they're tied to (nor do I want to look too closely at the OST, since the game still has some plot twists yet that could be spoiled). I suppose I could just be gushing since Awakening is the first Fire Emblem game I put much time into (adding a no-permadeath mode is almost certainly what did it for me), but I think there's some genuinely great music in here.

EDIT: Okay, beat the game since writing that initial paragraph; expanded the highlights considerably now that I've had time to delve into the OST.

The whole OST is perfect. Revo did a great job mixing classic and modern music.

Some of the best tracks would be:
That person name is The track that sounds agains all the Asterisk boss battles (they give a new job when beat them).

Wicked Flight. You know you are fighting the final battle and the music is not as good as it shoud be....then suddently the boss makes a "This is not even my final form" and this piece of art sounds.

Serpent eating the ground. And there you go....you begin the final boss battle and THIS sounds. What to do? The best part is when near the end it mixes every main character main theme....the "I CAN'T FUCKING LOSE" feeling was amazing.

2. Dragon Age Inquisition

Every zone has an amazing track, forest, desert, snow, mountain...but there are a few every player will always remember.

DAI Main Theme Just wonderful. That mix of calm and then anger.
The song of the inquisition. The feels...the god damn feels in that moment.

Tavern songs mixBut we have to admit, the bests tracks were the ones the Bard sang on the tavern.

3.Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

The job done here was amazing. Even the game is not a masterpiece the OST fits every moment.

LttP: Final Fantasy VI

Can you find a better OST? I don't think so. Every song of this game is a masterpiece.

Terra's Theme

It's improper to vote for a game you haven't played, even if it's just the soundtrack. Honorable mention is more appropriate in that circumstance.
I completely and utterly disagree with that but in all honesty, it's up to the person who's voting to decide and not my own as the vote counter.

I mean, I listen to a ton of soundtracks every single year to prepare for this thread because I am a VGM enthusiast (heck, I've written soundtrack reviews for stuff I hadn't played before just because I wanted to hear a composer's latest work and commented on it from a compositional and musicality standpoint). I am voting for VGM and pieces that have a tendency to have a chance to stand on their own. Other folks might vote for stuff they've played because they can understand the music more within the context. It's up to the person.

I have absolutely zero right to ask people whether or not they've played the game in question with respect to the soundtracks that they vote for, especially if they're listening to a soundtrack with a critical ear with respect to musicality. Maybe I feel this way because I play music, but I really feel like it would be entirely limiting and utterly disrespectful to the overall genre to dismiss music for a game that you haven't even played despite the fact that you enjoy the tuneage. Others might feel differently and I do not want to push my rules on someone else.

Honestly, it's just like how I do those sets of awards every year. You know, the Crazy Bus award, remix album, etc. This thread's more about fun and discussion and finding out about new things to me, and it's a reason why I look forward to it every year. I'll mention stuff for games I haven't played because it's a Japan-exclusive game and I haven't had a chance to import it yet. I have one of my soundtrack vote writeups ready for two weeks now and I haven't had a chance to play it until now. So... I'd rather people vote for what they enjoy and adhering to their set of criteria for soundtrack voting as opposed to me going "OH YOU CAN'T VOTE UNTIL YOU PLAYED THAT" because that's silly. Some albums for some games coming out next year in the west are even released in Japan already, too. Lots of stuff to consider and people have different criteria, that's all.

tl;dr: If you have a set of criteria to vote on, that's all right. If others have different criteria, that's all right too. Just don't feel like you've gotta force everyone to have the same criteria, especially if they've justified their choices well.

^You can only have one LTTP vote.
I'm more flexible with the SotY vote and I'll just count the first. I'll just PM someone if I find something super-silly with their vote, that's all.

Just know that I'm not as strict with this as the GotY voting thread is because I'd much rather have people participate and discuss rather than arbitrarily post lists. I think Shadow Hog's explanations are pretty good, and I'd love to comment on them more much later when I'm not on a trip.
