Titanfall has nearly 8m unique players, sequel will not be exclusive to any platform

Respawn just completed its season pass for Titanfall, so overall how are things going?

I think they're going well, the game was obviously pretty successful. I think we announced 7 million [entitlements – or unique players] a month ago or so or whatever...We're obviously still selling so we are closing in on 8 million now. So for us, as an early launch on a limited platform we're pretty happy. I think the DLC has been pretty successful especially the last one - Frontier's Edge - has been very well received. I don't know what are you hearing about it? I would be interested to hear your take.

One of the things you said that I thought was very powerful at the time we did our cover story was that focusing on one console with the exclusive Microsoft deal really helped you guys get the game done and make it exciting and fun. On the other hand, there was a lot of discussion and confusion about Titanfall being exclusive and for how long, so while the first game is exclusive to the Microsoft platform, Titanfall as a brand is exclusive to Respawn. So as you move forward are you open to different deals as it goes forward? Do you think there's a multiplatform, multi-console version of Titanfall in the future?

I've already said future projects will not necessarily be exclusive.

If it will not necessarily be exclusive, does your deal with Microsoft and EA cover just the first Titanfall title or is it multiple titles?

Just this one.

Just this one. That's interesting.

Yup.

Thought this deserved its own thread.

That seems extraordinarily high considering the NPD numbers.

Must have been a ton of bundles? I can't imagine it saw amazing international sales.

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
And suddenly i'm reminded of the "Is titanfall a flop" thread. Good job to the devs, they made a good fun new shooter, excited to see what they'll do with the sequel.

I wonder if the Supreme GoTY Ultimate edition will actually be renamed and released on PS4 or if they'll just jump straight in at TF2.

Either way, meh.

Probably half were the $5 PC sales.

It's not actually 8 million sales, it is similar to how Destiny claimed 9 million unique players or whatever.

So you have to figure everyone who played on an XB1, or 360 counts for this.

Still a good sign of exposure, and I do think actual sales are a lot higher than people think, but nowhere near 8 million copies sold.

It will be interesting to see if the reception radically changes just because it is on PS4. The game now is actually amazing, but I think most of its negativity was undeserved sour grapes.

The game been heavily discounted on both PC and Xbox digital storefronts. Which is where I would imagine most of the purchases have taken place.

HOld on, nearly 8 million copies?

Just.. how? Isn't the XBONE somewhere between 10-12m units worldwide?

a 66% attach rate would be nuts.
Titanfall is on 360 and PC too.

Good news, hopefully with the success they'll have a bit more time and money to invest in the sequel. Lack of content was the game's biggest flaw IMO. A more fleshed out multiplayer experience with more modes, maps, weapons and titans as well as a co-op campaign mode could be pretty cool.

That doesn't equal nearly 8m sales, just nearly 8m players.

Wow thats a lot of numbers. I wonder if those free origin weekends padded out that number. If not, they must have done quite well on bundles and digital sales.

So what about all the negativity from those of us that played it on PC?

Lockdown that framerate to a solid 60 and I'll buy on ps4. Way too much screen tearing on the xbox one for my liking

I understood that these 8 million refers to unique players too.

Yes. Unique users =/= sales.

That includes people that bought the game second hand, people that rented it, people that got it from a friend and more.

Still really good numbers though, not trying to say it is a bomba.

Great news, loved the game. Can't wait for the sequel, just don't make the transition similar to Cod4 to MW2.

Holy crap, is there a breakdown by platform? I recently played it on PC and the population was really low. I can't wrap my head around how it could sell that much, yet have so few playing now.
