DSFix 2.3 taken down after DMCA complaint [Up: Was mistake; being resolved]

This is just insane, I mean why now? It's been 2 1/2 years.... Hope this is just some pencil pushing loser that overstepped his bounds rather than something that is going to spoil the community in terms of online play. Obviously not super worried about the file itself, it's already been distributed so many millions of times that you can find it almost anywhere.

Good luck to Durante though I hope this doesn't turn out to be a big problem.

I wonder now if we'll get banned for using DSFix 2.3?

Nah, pretty sure this is all about removing access to the "Debug Mode" which was leaked during the Steamworks transition. It seems likely that they don't know what to look for, or if people have incorporated both DSFix and the Debug Mode together, so they decide to get everything pulled.

Or more precisely, blame this guy for uploading Debug Mode and making everything else a target :p

Durante this may have been a false claim.

I uploaded the debug version on Nexus Mods and got a PM from someone as well.

Their grammar leads me to believe that they may just be a user trying to rile things up in the DS community.

Though if it is truly them, their claim on the Debug build holds a lot more validity than their claim on DSFix.

Not all professionals know how to write correspondence. Also, English probably isn't this person's first language.

It isn't, but you don't make mistakes like that regardless (I mean "You simply has not the right"? Really? That's 6th grade English stuff here, if that) if you work in the position that guy is in. Well, apparently you do, but that makes me question Bandai Namco Germany's competence when it comes to choosing their partners in these matters. They know that that stuff is going to be international and thus in English, and paying someone with English skills that are seemingly below those of an average German middle school student to do that job just seems like a dumb idea.

Namco, why the fuck do you think this is a good idea?

The only way I've managed to convince some people to try Dark Souls is because of DSFix.

I wasn't going to comment until it seemed intentional.

This is seriously asinine. Not only are you not infringing, you added value to their originally unappealing product for free. FOR FREE.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
I just wanted to say I have nothing to do with this plz understand Durante.

Fuck off Scamco. Durante fixed your piece of shit PC port. Maybe stop being incompetent for a change? That'd be nice. I know, that'd require effort, but then you wouldn't need to go after Durante!

Hahaha. Right. Let's see how long this stands.

That this decision is misguided, petty, and unfair is something probably everyone on the internet with a soul can agree on. Well done on that front, Bamco.

Agreed. I've befriended 3-4 dozen Germans and their English was always great. If a person is going to be in the business of suing people they should be able to competently speak their language. You know, so they might be able to recognize when they are doing something incomprehensibly stupid.

Hey, thanks for singlehandedly saving our absolutely worthless PC port and ensuring it gets any sales at all. Now fuck you!

Such bullshit.

What the hell..
Did he just scissor kick the crowd?

I just read about it, and apparently the lady was likely to sue after having health issues symptomatic of brain injury - although that info is coming from her lawyer and who knows how accurate that is

Well, that's disappointing. I don't really see what their motive is, which makes me wonder if this take down was automated.

Hopefully this wrong gets righted soon! I've heard plenty of good things about DSFix and it'd be a shame if Namco doesn't want people to use it.

Would it be worthwhile to get the gaming press talking about this? I'm (perhaps naively) thinking that Namco might back off in the face of bad PR.

At least the address data adds up, although even the city name is spelled incorrectly. It's "Reinfeld", not "Reineld". Zip code 23585. http://www.filedefense.de

Volker Rieck seems to be the executive director of that company. A bit strange that an executive director is unable to write properly.

If anything, Namco owes Durante money. This has got to be a mistake.

Yeah, I feel it has to be something resembling a mistake. As far as I know, Durante has never had to deal with this kind of harassment in the past, and in some ways his efforts have even been encouraged by developers. Either something specific changed Bamco's calculus, or someone somewhere messed up.

That's pretty low. Maybe trying to justify how improved Scholar of the First Sin will be on PC. Durante, you golden god, we stand with you!

Thank god for that but I mean for DS3 and the future. Their marketing for DS2 and now this is starting to become very irritating.

Well we can only hope the A-Team of From Software continues to make high quality Exclusives for the PS4 from now on and the B-Team does their thing for Multiplat.
So at least the biggest part of the community can enjoy good games.

To be honest - I wouldn't put much effort into it either.
How many people buy the game for full price?Probably a lot less who buy it for 5$ on Steam Sales.
Buy 2 Million Units for full price on release day and then you probably gonna get a well optimized PC Version full of love or at least patches/fixes.

Hope for Durante they are just making an Error.
Otherwise stuff like that isn't helping him to put effort into future projects and without him 9/10 PC Games aren't working properly.

Automated search trying to go after sites distributing the debug .exe and DSFix got flagged by accident?

I mean, I'm trying best case scenario for Namco here, otherwise they just look like complete fucking dicks.

edit: I see similar ideas have already been mentioned by others. It does make no sense that they would decide to go after DSFix now when it's been available on the same address for over a year.

edit²: I do like that a reversal of this would lead to Namco at least tacitly acknowledging the existence of DSFix and what it's done for the community (and more importantly for them, the company's bottom line).

I'd be convinced this post was bullshit if it was coming from anyone but a junior.

I wouldn't have played DS without the mod, and I likely wouldn't have purchased DS2 day 1 if I hadn't played DS first. If this isn't an honest mistake, I will never purchase a Namco published game again. My backlog is a million games long already, so there's no reason to support bullshit like this.
