Canadian Gaming Deals and Discussion Thread 5: Much Ado Aboot Shipping

You can't be serious. I know the dollar is weak right now, but that's a 25% increase. $229.99 is the most I'll pay.

Source?

The most I would pay for a regular new 3DS is $200. Or else I'm just gonna wait for a bundle then

A $50 increase on the XL makes it a markup that exceeds 20%, I find that to be a bit unbelievable.

But this sucks balls if true

Edit: are the regular new 3ds even coming?

This is so absurd that I actually believe it. You can buy a new Wii U for that these days.

That's what the 3DS originally cost, and we all know how that went. I don't buy it.

It's at minimum going to be $239. Look at the exchange rate.

I mean I know we are slowly getting shafted but a $250 XL is just way too absurd. A $20 increase seems "reasonable" but $50 on a $200 item? That's just....ugh.

We're not getting shafted. $199USD ~= $239CAD. And they're going to round up, like they usually do (Sony, Nintendo, Apple, etc).

Sure, according to the currency exchange I am not getting "shafted", but I am definitely paying more. Someone is going to get the shorter end of the stick due to the weak CAD. That's just the way it is.

Well this is going to wait then.

Sure Nintendo is not the only one that does this since as you mentioned many other brands are doing this too, but this still sucks to us nonetheless.

Customs-related suggestion anyone?
I've had a parcel that arrived at Mississauga Nov 25th... no news as of yet.
Canadapost won't help out because they actually have had nothing to do with it yet, of course.
A request for information was sent from the country of origin 2 weeks ago, and then another last week.
Is there any way I can get in touch with customs?

Or how long do I have to wait until they tell me they lost my parcel?
How could this have happened? No communication whatsoever on their part is quite annoying.

I bought something off eBay maybe a couple years ago (it was a golden Wii classic controller pro. Of course it had to be something released in very limited numbers) and it got lost after arriving in Mississauga. It's a headache, believe me.

First things first: Your package is almost certainly gone and Canada Post doesn't care. Getting in touch with them is necessary to cover your bases, but it will go nowhere. You will have to talk to your sender, who will have to talk to their postal service to work out insurance. Canada Post, no matter what, will make you wait a certain amount of time before they'll even tell you to go through this process, so it may be a few weeks yet before they'll even listen to you. Having a tracking number in this situation means zilch, except you have a better idea of just when your package disappeared, if that has sentimental meaning to you.

This is an enormous hassle and I feel for you. In my case the seller had no interest in speaking to USPS about the issue and I had to get eBay to put the thumbscrews on him. I hope for your sake you don't get this runaround. And whoever it is at customs in Mississauga who just decides to take home parcels that look like video games, he had better hope he doesn't cross my path.

As for contacting customs, I don't remember what the Canada Post woman told me when I asked her but it definitely wasn't yes.

Well new Wii U games are only $65 when they're $60 in the US (and new PS4/XB1 games are $70 here). Recent 3DS games are $45.

I would say $220-230 and $190. If the XL is $250 I'm getting the regular one.

I'll definitely buy a limited edition bundle for either model though.

I ordered something on Amazon that has low stock (that could have shipped today...) but I coupled it with something else that ships much later... am I SOL on the product if it sells out waiting on the second item?

Or does Amazon put aside the order I paid for?

EDIT: The Mayflash Gamecube adapter for the Wii U is apparently now unavailable...well. There's no alternatives apparently.

Will QA for food.
I hadn't really thought of the price difference before today. Now after reading all these posts, I am full of dread. But we'll still be buying our New 3DS' regardless. Just stings a bit.

New 3DS XL is all but confirmed to be $249.99 here.

Watch them not update the price when the CAD improves.

:'(

I'll be waiting for those limited time price drops if that's the case.

I hope it does come to North America. The only reason I can't see it coming is because Nintendo doesn't want to cannibalize 2DS sales. Is that even a good enough reason though? Let's just wait and see what happens this February.

This is a bit off-topic, but I don't know where I should ask and I figured fellow Canadians would might know the answer.

Anyways, so recently, I backed a Kickstarter project that succeeded, but I'm having trouble with the payment (which is using Amazon Payments). It seems my account has been temporarily disabled with Amazon (I should note that this is Amazon.COM). Here's the email that Amazon sent me regarding the issue.

Greetings from Amazon Payments.

Thank you for using Amazon Payments. In order to help us comply with applicable U.S. laws related to commercial transactions, and keep your account active, we ask that you provide the information shown here:

-Copy of unexpired passport or other government issued identification

You can fax this documentation to our fax number at 1-800-887-0540 from within the U.S. or 001-206-765-3424 when faxing from outside the U.S. Please be sure to include your e-mail address to help us locate your account as quickly as possible.

We appreciate your cooperation and interest in Amazon Payments.

Best regards,
Thank you.

So they want me to send them a copy of my passport? And I don't have a fax machine. This is honestly the first time I've been requested this for an online purchase, so it's a little strange to me and I don't know how to proceed. Do I actually need to send them a fax of my passport, or is there an easier way to fix this? And Kickstarter has given me a deadline of the 16th to complete my payment, so I need to resolve this soon. Please help!

Looking a bit more into the issue, this is a requirement for sellers, but for some reason Kickstarter backers are considered "merchants," so I have to provide the documentation. But with only 2 days left for me to resolve this payment, I fear Amazon won't fix this issue on time and I'll thus miss backing this Kickstarter.

Is there any way to change my method of payment on Kickstarter from Amazon Payments to something else? Or is Amazon Payments the only way?

Call and ask or send a scan of your driver's license?

Is there a way to fax a scan with a computer? If not, where can I find a fax machine? Does Staples have them for use?

Yea, they have fax machines

Is the Zelda version exclusive to Gamestop?

I'd rather order in store for this. Hope there are still Zelda orders available at lunch.

So how does best buy console in-store preorders work? I have $75 in reward points and i'd rather just get the red one and save money

A little birdy just told me that EB Games has core Wii U systems (black, 32gb, no games), new for $150 starting today.

All I know.

I guess $230 is acceptable for the XL.

Fuck off not releasing the regular N3DS though

Probably a better margin on the XL + too much NA regular 3DS/2DS stock left.

I bet we'll see a release of the regular new 3ds by summer.

Really sucks.

Couldn't select Pick Up In Store on ebgames and then it gave me a random error and wouldn't allow me to preorder when I got to the end of the process.

Will wait to give FS or BB my money.

$230 and no charger.

Bite me Nintendo.

I mean you're still getting some money that day for Majora's Mask but I'm not paying that much for the new 3DS.

... Yeah I think I'm gonna end up just waiting for a different N3DS bundle. Its going to be between the MonHun one and a potential Xenoblade one
