Well the fact that they removed it confirms it is either real or someone messed up and they took it down because they know people will overreact.

if anyone is wondering....yes, this account is legit, because the president and ceo of retro studios is following it.

but it has nothing to do with the random pr messup on nintendo's site. any connection between the two is reaching way too far.

and done....
well it's nice to see metroid return i guess, i was hoping for a wii u game but 3ds is ok.
Come to think of it, it's very un-nintendo like to release the trilogy on wii u before announcing a new wii u game at e3 so this makes sense.
in the past nintendo waits until the new game is out and then after put the older versions on virtual console e.t.c
So metroid for 3ds it is...

you're making all sorts of leaps in logic, haha.

The key wording is, 'can't find any place else.'

Do you mean Star Fox? I don't remember the announcement you are referring to.

The Nintendo 3DS family of handheld systems are home to fan-favorites you can't find anyplace else.**

It was in an interview post E3 but Miyamoto said that they were working on two new metroid games but they had nothing to show yet.

Nintendo has gone on record a couple of times saying they have 2d and 3d plans for metroid... this isn't surprising in the least.

How cool would a close together or simultaneous launch be, with each game sharing linking stories. 2d Metroid on 3DS and a new Metroid Prime style game on Wii U!

(or they could be Nintendo and fuck with us by doing it vice versa)

Next Level Gaaaaames, come out to plaaaaaaaaay....

After the success of Luigi's Mansion 2, I could see them returning to their Metroid project...

Why would they prioritize Metroid 1 and 2 over other series? They could have said Fire Emblem, or Zelda, or Donkey Kong, or Kirby, or several other series, but they went with a series that only has an NES game and GB game on the 3DS.

Here is the reality:

Shinya Takahashi, General Manager of SPD confirmed that both 2D/Third Person Metroid and 3D/First Person Metroid were both franchises Nintendo planned on working with in the future.

The distinction lies that Sakamoto is the IP Manager of 2D/3rd Person Metroid and Tanabe is the IP Manager of FPS Metroid.

Or it could just be a generic PR statement about Metroid being an IP Nintendo owns and you can access VC games of it on the 3DS.

Christ, some of the reaching here.....

But again, why Metroid? Fire Emblem is a bigger game for Nintendo right now than Metroid. Or how about Kirby? Kirby consistently outsells Metroid. Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, IIRC, is still doing well for Nintendo, so they could say Donkey Kong. Metroid has almost no presence compared to other, more popular Nintendo series. In both examples of the page's appearance, we see (collectively):

Mario (Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7)
Pokemon (Pokemon X/Y, Pokemon OR/AS)
The Legend of Zelda (OoT3D, MM3D, ALBW)
Animal Crossing (New Leaf)
Super Smash Bros. (Smash 3DS)
Metroid (...Metroid and Metroid II?)

Metroid is, by leaps and bounds, the least significant to the 3DS at the moment.

Other titles listed were not virtual console titles, the franchises listed had iterations exclusive to the 3DS, rather than other systems.

More like, Nintendo accidentally confirms they remember Metroid™.
They remember Metroid, as the franchise Japan doesn't like but they keep trying to, and the rest of the fans cry Samus was in the Kyary Pamyu Pamyu New 3DS ad, Monster Hunter alt costume and also Mario Kart 8 costume.

I still see it. Everyone is overreacting. I have Metroid, Metroid 2, and Metroid Fusion on my 3DS, so the statement is correct whether there's a new 3DS game in the works or not. As for the RetroStudios Twitter, they're working on something, that's for sure, but even if it is Metroid, this statement does not allude to it.

He said they are thinking of what to do with Metroid, not that they are working on it. Probably he thinks about it when he is in the restroom.

It was not even Miyamoto:

Shinya Takahashi: So it has been a while since we released the last one and we’re having discussions internally about what we can do next. So at this point we have two different types of Metroid games. We have the Prime style of Metroid game and we have the more traditional style of Metroid game. We feel that we do need to take care of both of these styles of play. And the hope is that at some point in the near future we’ll be able to share something about them.

Thanks guys. I didn't need a reason to drink tonight but it's nice to know I have one now.

Hope so! Been dying for a new Metroid!
I hope a Metroid Wii U is in the works too or at least being planned.
