PS4 slim leaked?

PS3 slim leak was much more believable

and turned out to be true.

... I actually don't like that design, real or fake. The blue stripe on the original console really does a lot to make the overall look a bit more distinctive (and it's a purposeful callback to the PS2, anyway.)

Has to be fake, even if not I just got my PS4 like a couple months ago, so this is way to soon for me.
Comments like this always amuse me. As if how long ago YOU bought your console makes any difference at all.

PS4 is at almost 20 million sold and its been over a year. A slim release this year doesn't seem that crazy.

Unpossible.

Even if they moved the PSU externally, I don't think they could pull off this kind of downsize so soon.

Also, if they moved the PSU externally, that would piss me off.

PS4 haez no gaemz!
If you already have a PS4, why would it even matter?

It doesn't look real to me, but I'm still excited about the prospect of a Slim. Is it just me or is the size of the letter H on the bottom right inconsistent throughout the pictures?

so why would they release a slim PS4 this year if this leak is true? PS4 is selling like butter. Or is it so they can drop the price now that components are getting cheaper while focusing on the broader crowd which both MS and especially Nintendo is having problems doing?

Yeah, I don't see how they'd make it that small, the heat it would generate would be crazy. Even if through some miraculous means they did, probably through making the PSU external and some great cooling method, it would just be too loud. If the current PS4 struggles with noise issues in certain positions/locations then I'd hate to think what a smaller version would be like.

this is fake as hell.

If anything it MIGHT be an internal possible mockup of IDEAS for a PS4 slim, but there is no way in hell that thing is true.

So fake. Why would anyone put the disk and controls on the forward slanted side?

i don't know, if anything this is the most believable part of this "leak" because of how it wouldn't be obvious. The PlayStation TV also has the Vita cart slot on the side.

I think it's fake too, but not because of design itself.

The person behind these shots has been trying to get me to post them on Kotaku for the past week or so. Given that they're clearly fake -- love that "CONFIDENTIAL"! -- that of course wasn't going to happen. I guess he got other sites to bite.

Gotta admit the design is pretty cool though.

Looks fake to me, not sure that Sony would come out with a slim less than two years after launch.

Codename: Monolith was as big a tip off as the "confidential". "It looks like the Monolith from 2001 so that shall be it's codename. " Such apt codenames seem almost non existent in the real world and are usually tied to fakes.

I guess some sites really need the hits.

Sales are irrelevant, with Apple and Android devices sucking up 20nm dies I doubt Either Sony or MS will have 20nm APUs this year. Even if so I'm not seeing a 28->20nm APU and 16 4Gb -> 8 8Gb chips reducing size that much, it would lead to lower cost setting up for a price drop but not THAT much drop in size. It's Fake. I'm not expecting the PS4 slim until 14nm dies come widely available.

Hey come on guys!! This would only not be true if it said "TOP SECRET" in bold red./s

I'm glad most of Gaf isn't falling for this. It's a quite sexy fake though.
I don't get why you guys find the "CONFIDENTIAL" part so ridiculous.

At my company there are different classifications for information that dictate how it is to be handled and with whom it can be shared. Anything that is confidential would be very clearly labeled as such.

Not saying this is legit but the confidential labeling is very believable. If you were to send out confidential information to some team members within your company, you would make damn sure they understood it was confidential.

If it was from some mock up photos on a person's computer or part of some slideshow presentation, then the existence of the word CONFIDENTIAL makes zero sense. It also makes no sense that the person creating these would label the files as such as they give them away and would be an odd naming convention for anything shipped around an internal team.

Fake click bait article. The text claims that this is possible because the PS3 and PS2 had slims "a year and a half" after launch. Bull.

Hahaha, I love when fakers try to write official sounding stuff like 'confidential material' and 'code' to make stuff look real, and take photos of a screen.

I really do not understand what justifies this being believed in, it requires virtually no skill to create what we have in the OP.

Yeah it does make sense. If you are sharing it with people then you are going to make damn sure you label it as sensitive, confidential, whatever it is classified as. That way the recipients know how to handle it and you have covered your ass.

You don't believe a console manufacturer is capable of halving the size of their hardware one year after launch? What's wrong with you!? This is definitely releasing later on this year, but you'd be fools to buy it. Wait for the 2016 model that's small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. You didn't hear that from me though, it's CONFIDENTIAL info >.>

Doubting it, plus so soon. If this guy is to be believed, prototype look at best.

Was there ever any leak of the PS4 look before it was unveiled?

I work for a large games publisher, and literally every single document about game design, art, programming has "CONFIDENTIAL" written all over it. Also, both PS4 and XOne SDK documentation have "CONFIDENTIAL" on the bottom on each page too. I would never say that something like this is fake because it has confidential written on it.

Agreed. It's the 'design and specs subject to change without notice' which raises alarm bells.

Those other sites must suck, then. Good job.

I don't think that a photo of a render qualifies as believable rumor. The render is reasonably well done however, and funnily enough, it's the the small text print in the corner that makes me less inclined to believe it rather than anything else.

It would also be surprising to see Sony significantly change its SKU after a year in production, since normally according to Pachter I believe, most contracts for console manufacturing usually last a couple of years.
