Life is Strange Episode 1 Review Thread

I hope this game will hold up in later episodes.

If it does and the reception is still this positive, I'll play all 5 episodes in one go.

I won't be making the same mistake as I did with TWD S2. Also, if the episodes are going to be 3 hours each, that's a good sign I'd say.

I think I'll get this.

I had a lot of issues with Remember Me, but Dontnod are a studio with a lot of potential. Ten years down the line, they could be producing some classics.

Looking good. Any of the reviews mention the length? Considering it's episodic I'm hoping for it to be at least on par with TellTale's normal length of around 2 hours.

Not from reviews but the devs said around 2hrs each episode or ~4hrs if you want to really mess with everything.

Reviewers are saying 2-3 hours for the first episode.

I wasn't sure on this game but these reviews are amazing, I'll definitely buy it tomorrow!

Sounds pretty good...bought!

$14.40 for all 5 episodes on GMG using code MDDKW-CNL8A-LFJ7E
For me, this did not work, but the code HYEHZ0-GNKD1A-GFNGMQ did.
Not sure if it's just a personal one though.

€13.50, crazy good price, feel a little guilty for paying so little for a day one release.

I'd not heard of this until I just saw the other thread. Is this out in Europe on 360 now? Or tomorrow (I'm in Oz and am confused as he'll about the release timings since I moved here.

My main pre-release worry was that DONTNOD would overplay their hand with the indie aesthetic--when they mentioned listening to a bunch of soft-spoken indie folk to get into the mood, I started to worry about whether I'd be playing Bon Iver meets Garden State: The Game. So I'm really glad to hear that Life Is Strange is at least a bit smarter and more subtle than all that.

I'm not quite getting how people are getting Steam Achievements for the episodes past the first one.
Some form of exploit I'd guess?
Is that hard to do on Steam normally?
(I remember the early 360 years when it was fairly common to see people exploiting some security flaw to easy unlock achievements en masse).

Glad to see it getting good reviews.

Probably going to wait to pick it up until there are more episodes out but definitely a great start for the game.

Got a chance to play it earlier this week. I didn't play it with 100% attention and focus on exploring the world, because I was only going to have a few hours with the game, but I did complete the chapter.

I really, really dig it. It feels a lot like a Telltale adventure game to me, which, okay, cool, but the thing that caught my interest was the overall subject matter. It's girls, interacting with other girls, just getting to be girls. It's like a slice of life high school drama centered around female characters, and good lord, that's so, so unusual for videogames (outside of the occasional exception). Yeah, it's got the slightly supernatural twist (so far), but so much of the game still feels so grounded and "normal".

I also walked away totally adoring Max when I was done with the chapter. I love her as the protagonist, and I want to experience more of her life as the next chapters come along.

We're going to be putting up our "review" soon, but we wanted to also include an audio discussion with it where myself, the reviewer, and another staffer chatted about the game and our opinions.

Is there a release schedule for the episodes? Telltale has tought me to wait until it's complete.

Every six weeks.

I just bought this on Greenmangaming for $13.50. 10% off already plus another 25% discount code floating around. Whole season for it. :)

I loved Remember Me and really want to support Dontnod however I can, so I'm all over this. Can't wait to give it a shot tomorrow....I already got my key when I just bought it, too.

Awesome just jumped on this :)

Good on these guys. My sister is currently playing Remember Me and enjoying it a lot. Probably will grab this for her once it goes on sale.

Does anyone know how many episodes they've planned? Does it play out like the Telltale games?

As mentioned, there will be a total of five episodes with a new episode every six weeks.

As to if it plays out like a TT game, I can only hope that it completely exceeds anything TT have put out in recent years. It's time for some more involved gameplay in the story adventure genre. TT have gotten very lazy since TWD...

Some competition might light a fire under their asses.

Examiner gave it a 5/5.
Overall, Life is Strange Episode 1: Chrysalis is an outstandingly charming, albeit brief beginning to this beautiful, new world. DONTNOD Entertainment has laid out what is to come in stellar fashion and I can't wait for Episode 2 to arrive, though waiting until sometime in March is still a decision I seriously question.
I'm not sure whether to pick this game up now for $14.40 on GMG or wait until all the episodes are out...

New episodes every six weeks is way too far between. I'll wait for the whole thing to come out before playing. Same thing I did with The Walking Dead.

Game is now available on Steam, but still no key from GMG..

At least DONTNOD saying every six weeks. It's been over two months since Tales from the Borderlands Ep 1, and Telltale still hasn't said anything about Episode 2.

Wow reviews weren't kidding about the lip sync. It is rather bad. Thankfully most dialogue seems to be Max's thoughts so it's not always distracting.
