Nintendo announces the New 3DS XL for North America to be released February 13

You definitely won't get the MonHun XL, because that's GameStop exclusive, but a reseller may eventually put up the regular XL up on Amazon. It will probably happen after launch, though.
Not really interested in the MonHun XL as I don't like the "fur" look. Plus Gamestop's hardware return policy is terrible so I will never buy from them. I suppose I could wait for a reseller but had my heart set on getting it (& MH) at launch and playing with my family.
Looks like amazon.ca have some New Nintendo 3DS XLs for sale if importing is an option or you know someone in Canada. Not certain if the amount of amazon money you have will carry over but you can always try logging into the amazon.ca domain and see what happens.
That's actually a good idea since my wife is Canadian so I'm up there all the time....till I noticed it's $30 more expensive and would include the ridiculous 13% HST.

I do appreciate the suggestions though you two. I'm trying to see now if I can pick up some general supplies I have to buy anyways with the gift cards.

I'd like to jump in on older 3DS XL model now. Maybe if I can find a good deal on it I will.

This is exactly why I listed my ACNL XL, incase other people had the same idea you are, haha.

I'm still super salty about them not bringing the standard size over here, but I'll still buy the XL, just because.

Some time ago, even before the offcial unveiling of the New models, i got rid of the regular size 3DS in hopes to upgrade to a better model. Kept the games i had and continued building up the collection of games from time to time.

Was super pleased when the New regular sized model was announced even with an slight screen upgrade. Now, i hit a road block.

i just don't want a handheld device of the size of an XL, i have no use to it. Don't like the size, don't like the 200 price and to top it of it comes with slightly more pixalated graphics. Europe gets the 2 models, i asume america is the 2nd biggest market for the 3DS.

Really don't know what to do.

Yeah, it is really hard to say. My guess is maybe wait it out. Maybe Nintendo realize support the 2DS was dumb, phase it out, and then release the regular one and all regions are uniform. There is nothing on the 3DS this year that is a must play. FE in 2016 will be hype though.

How long do you think it'll take for a clear case like that to come out in the US? $35 is just too much for me to import a case.

its 32 on ebay with free shipping.

but if its anything like how it was for the original 3DSXL, i would say 8 months to a year?
thats how long it took last time.

In your case you don't have much to play. My case is the total opposite. i didn't rush to play the 3DS releases, i liked the 3DS from the begining but i had the gut feeling we would get a 3D improvement which was the feature i chose to buy the system in the first place.

So with time, even system less, my library got bigger. SO im sitting in some games i want to play.

It was bad enough to wait since october withouth an unknown release date for the American version. Know im back to square one waiting for an unknown date for a potential regular size model. Europe seems to have the 3 models, what's going on here?

Really don't know what to do.

Do what the rest of us did, call Nintendo of America and use the support tickets.

As has been said in the other thread, they've gotten a lot of calls about this and they're well aware. And if it works anything like congress, a single call is ten thousand people's opinion.

I was going to get the XLMM either way, but I am still doing my part in getting NoA to realize they're being dumb. I also recommended that, if they are worried about dead stock sitting on shelves, to just sell it themselves on their online store.

So yesterday I went to Gamestop to preorder and was told their system wasn't working and to come back today, which I did. Now the same guy from yesterday was there and said they could only do the web in store preorders to ship it to me even for just the regular red version. I declined since if I'm going to get it online I'd prefer to just do it myself so I can cancel it later if I find a better option than the $15 for 1 day shipping Gamestop has... I called another one in the area and they too aren't doing actual in store pick up preorders.

Are these guys just totally clueless and getting mixed up since the LEs are online only, or are some Gamestops actually not getting any stock in store at all? o_O
Seems that way. Went to my GameStop earlier today and tried to pre-order a n3DS and said I had to pay in full and they would ship it to my house. That's no bueno because I want to trade my old 3DS in and also do a system transfer.

I think they are clueless, unless that store sold through its allotment of in-store pre-orders already. I pre-ordered two standard ones (one for me and one for my brother) in store at my local gamestop yesterday with a $50 deposit for each. No paying in full or shipping required.

Haha. It's Nintendo. You actually thought they would embrace a modern wireless standard?

It's still b/g only.

Seemingly better g, however, maybe, though? The CPU was definitely bottlenecking wireless speeds, but it may have been partially the wireless chip, too. Chip is most likely a smaller process as well.

Still awful that it's not N, however. g is such an awful standard, with so much inefficiencies, not to mention knocking your 2.4GHz network down to 802.11g speeds.

Chances are GameStop has hit its allocation of reserves at the local level. I was able to take reservations all through last night (including two MH web in store orders) but i check when I go in in an hour.

Can anyone explain to me why you would buy a New 3DS at launch from a software perspective? The stuff i've seen from Majoras mask looks identical as the regular 3DS version. Does it have any other only on New 3DS launch games?

Nintendo doesn't seem to be making a very good case on the software side for buying this.

Think of the new3DS like the DSi. There will probably be a new handheld in Fall 2016

The cold will likely have reduced the battery's charge, but aside from that, it shouldn't cause any longstanding problems. Of course, it probably didn't get that cold, given the truck, shipping box, and packaging would all help insulate it. Should be fine as long as you let it warm up to something reasonable before powering it on.

Thanks

The battery likely wasn't charged much at all, given that it was brand new and never before used. Hopefully nothing else happened to it, but it's unlikely.

It's been sitting for almost 24 hours in room temperature, without having been opened.

I had a weird thought today - has anyone who has a New 3DS tried out the AR Cards and their minigames? They were a fun little experiment when I got my 3DS years ago but they were quickly forgotten, mostly due to the poor performance (and the limited nature of the "games", which were really just tech demos). The New 3DS is supposed to be faster in every way, right? Is the frame rate and overall performance of the AR Card games any better/more enjoyable? There seems to be some real potential behind that idea if they can just give the experience a bit more polish.

Yo, where can I go to find some ridiculously high res IRL pictures of the metallic black 3DS XL? Really curious about how it looks. I saw the the outside of the Monster Hunter one and it looked good.

This sounds like a good initiative. Do you think is worth something to email them? At least they could check out the topic heather and see the complain.

N3DS doesn't improve software performance.

Cause Modbot closed my thread, here's my pre-order adventures

So I recently visited my local gamestop to pay off my new 3ds, well as much as I can sense I'm trading in my current XL, while I'm waiting in line two women are at the line next to me speaking with the cashier. hey'e trading in a few games and picking up dieing light for PS4.

While they check out, the cashier asks if they've heard of the new 3ds, they say no, and she tells them about it, they look at the sigh, try out the desplay unit and the cashier tells them they can get $75 for trading in there old one. They decide to pre-order one and get majora's mask along with it. All in all, not a big deal.

The trouble arouse when I got to the front of my line, I say I'm paying off my new 3ds and I ask him if I have to trade in my adapter to get the full $100, he says yes, but offers to sell me the cheapest adapter in the store to trade in instead of my current one. While this is going on the woman in the other line is listening and asks about an adapter, her cashier say no, the new 3ds doesn't come with and adapter. At this point the woman, completely unprovoked, loses her shit.

"Someone needs to call Nintendo," she yelled, "how they gonna sell a goddamn video game without a goddamn adaptor."

Her cashier got nervous and offered to sell her a cheap one, the woman didn't want one though and asks what new games are coming to the console anyway.

The cashier said none, and the woman looses her shit again and yells how can they release a console without an adapter and without games. She continues to yell "someone needs to call nintendo!" Over and over again, the cashier then tries to explain that nintendo is a japanese company and the US branch can help.

At that point she says "fuck this," cancels her pre-order, and leaves.

Honestly I was surprised, like many here I kind assumed that no one would care about the adapter, my cashier told me that it actually happens a lot and he expects a lot of people will cancel at the midnight launch because of the adapter. So in the end Nintendo is losing a ton of sales just because of a stupid $5 cord.

On an unrelated note I saw a mom trying to buy 3DS games for a normal DS, amazingly that's still a thing.

tl;dr: Woman decides to order a new 3ds but flips the fuck out because of the lack of an adapter, cancels order, and apparently this is at least the fifth time it's happened to the cashier.

I really don't understand why so many people are jumping at the opportunity to trade in their older 3DS's for the new one. Besides being slightly faster and a couple new buttons there is no real difference, and as far as I know only a single game exclusive to the new model. With the trade in program at gamestop you are losing $100 in the deal too. I guess people just want the latest and greatest thing despite how minimal the difference between the old and new is. Nintendo released the 3DS about a year after the DSi XL and I feel like history will repeat itself soon with a new handheld model coming a year after this new 3DS.

Yep, Nintendo never did fix the problems with their branding, and because of that they create new ones. The lady thought she was buying a whole new console (not a 3DS revision) and then didn't know it didn't come with a charger. It's all Nintendo's fault that this problem even exists obviously, shows just how deep the problem is.

LMAO.

I mean, I have to agree. No AC cord is the stupidest thing Nintendo has ever done. It doesn't seem to be NOA's fault for once since they are the only ones that did have an adapter for the XL but it seems Nintendo is forcing all branches to not include an adapter now. Every Country should get one and I can totally see the lost sales for this.

I was hyped for the N3DS but think I'll wait. The next system will be b/c with Xenoblade and Amiibos will come to regular 3DS by end of year so theres not much point to me.

Will be interesting to see the casual backlass for ac adapter once it comes out. Hopefully it slaps some sense in them.

The rock solid 3D is worth the upgrade IMO. The N3DS is what it should have been at the start and it will be the definitive model. Plus other perks like Amibo support, faster loading etc.

For me it's for the new 3D and I actually plan on getting Xenoblade and replaying older games with the better 3D and camera controls. Also I bout my XL 2 years ago, actually it might be 3, I really don't mind biting the $100 bullet.

I had my MM XL order cancelled by Best Buy a few days ago and now I'm torn between the red or the black XL. I'd love to hold on to hope that I'll be able to find a Majora's Mask XL on release day but I have to work that day so I'm sure the chances would be slim :(.

Yeah I forgot about the new camera eye tracking to maintain optimal 3D effect, that is definitely an awesome upgrade. It's just that thus far nintendo has released a new DS model about every year since the DSi in 09 and the point in time is quickly approaching where they will be announcing the next generation system. For people who already own a 3DS I don't believe it's worth trading that in to pay an additional $100 to $150 for these particular upgrades in the 'new' 3DS when within a year it is highly likely that there will be an entirely next gen nintendo handheld, probably one with backwards compatibility. Although it may not feel like it the 3DS is quickly approaching old age.

Yeah, this is the main issue. Though the irony was amazing with another woman there trying to buy lego marvel super heroes for her son's DS when it only had a 3DS version, also the philosophy of no charger also bothers me. Not only are they not getting new customers, but saying that they assume you already have one is like saying they don't want new customers. They're perfectly fine with people who just have 3DS and DS chargers laying around buying it.

If it's any indication, my local GameStop is only getting pre-order new 3DSs.

The difference is not minimal. You seem eager to justify not wanting one.

For many, including myself, having 3d that FINALLY works without hunting for sweet spots, the c stick that works with a number of old and new games, and much faster operation and loading are more than enough reason to upgrade.

...
I was hyped for the N3DS but think I'll wait. The next system will be b/c with Xenoblade...

That's.. actually a pretty good point. My main reason for wanting an N3DS is because the regular one is the cutest dang thing I've ever seen, and I was going to get a JP one anyway for imports. Xenoblade I was looking forward to (assuming it's a decent port), but honestly... I should probably wait. Recent developments with removing region restrictions for regular 3DS systems gives me even less incentive.

If only I hadn't rushed out to buy kisekae #52, although I don't wholly regret it because it's awesome. I think I just talked myself down from this.

I think people have been grossly exaggerating about the sweet spot being gone, but we shall see on the 13th. Granted it being bigger is nice though.
C-Stick just plain sucks. Cannot argue with the last two, it is much quicker.

I agree. Yet if new3DSface were coming I'd be really tempted. The main draw for me is also the more stable 3D.

On an unrelated note I saw a mom trying to buy 3DS games for a normal DS, amazingly that's still a thing.

I thought 3DS was a nice name but this goes to show that it's still too subtle for some. New 3DS XL is absolutely terrible especially since 3DS XL is already a thing. Then there is 2DS which actually plays the same games as 3DS.

I think Sony does it best. PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4. It communicates very simply which system is the most recent. To the uninitiated, Nintendo's system names are subtle. Wii U is another example. Nothing about putting a U after Wii says "next". They should have gone with Wii 2, or if they wanted to be cute with pronoun puns Wii Tu.

Yes, sweet spot still exists but it is larger. I only really see it when playing up close.
It is about as accurate as Samsung's eye detection. You can try it out at Best Buy to see yourself.

I disagree I just finished playing with it and it is much more accurate than Samsung's shitty eye recognition. I literally had to try to break the 3d effect to lose it.
