The Order 1886 | Impressions Thread of not shooting the messenger.

Hey guys, quick question, has anyone been able to redeem the code for the dynamic theme today? I keep getting a code not valid or it's been used, is it just not up yet?

I assumed it would work once the store updated but it seems like it's taking a bit longer.

I'd suggest just waiting it out, Grace Chen etc

Sent in my request to take Friday off. I'm all set. Thinking of writing a detailed review this weekend, assuming people still care at that point

Not really sure what you mean, but destructibility is pretty average for a "next gen" game.

I was making fun of the dev quote above

This might sound like a gimmick, but we were all assured that dynamic destruction, texture warping and convincing object physics lie at the heart of The Order: 1886′s gameplay. When the crowd asked why, we were told it wasn’t yet time for that particular discussion.

I'm only about an hour in so far, but one thing that's really jarring to me is the lack of any reflections of the character in the mirrors or windows, despite the surfaces being highly reflective.

Other than that, it's your standard fare cover shooter, it's been quite a cinematic but linear affair so far.
Reflections=cube maps instead of actual "realtime reflections."

I'm working that morning. Going to do a marathon session after I sleep off the opening shift and marathon through this and write up a detailed response too. Been meaning to do it for more games but I keep avoiding it for some reason.

I'm sooo glad we are all complaining about game length. This is going to be great for developers to know, "Hey! I don't give a FUCK what your game is like, as long as it is long. So PLEASE pad it out with unnecessary bullshit, so I can feel like a satisfied meat puppet and act like I got my monies worth. ALL I care about is arbitrary numbers and feeling like I made a good deal, cause I'm floating on a rock in space and all of this is meaningless -- so me getting a good deal makes me feel less useless. Thank you."

In the middle of chapter 2. Everybody knows the graphics are great but the highlights for me are the faces and the lighting. Maybe the best I've seen.

The core group of characters have been introduced and the dialogue between them is well written. Story is intriguing.

If you want to try the game out BananaFactory, I'll be on later around 11PM EST and I'll gladly let you share play it.

It's happening.

I just want to play a tiny slice, not to spoil too much for myself.

I'll keep an eye out for ya, that's around 9 PM my time which is perfect.

Played about 1 hour last night. cant comment on the gameplay yet, but id like to say that the sound in this game is fantastic. If Battlefield 3/4 was the benchmark used for excellent sound design, I think the Order sounds better than those 2 games. playing via a HD 650.

The game does a good job in introducing it's mechanics and just as you are getting used to them throwing in a scripted sequence to catch you off guard.

Nice. Curious to see how our impressions line up, since we typically agree on everything else

How is longer than 5-8 hours padding with other incentives like MP, challenges, etc padding?

The lighting + the animations are unreal, I've never seen anything like them before (consoles only, never owned a decent pc)

Dragon Age Inquisition was criminal in that regard. Most of the side quests felt inconsequential and were there simply to inflate longevity. It became mind numbing to a point.

Still can't believe they make you grind in order to advance in a story mission.

I'm really looking forward to just kicking back with some snacks and blasting through the game. Haven't really done that since GoWIII

Only one of them has played and beaten the game and he rather likes it, the rest are just commenting on watching the game.
LOL

Of course they are.

This post isn't by me, it's by a guy with the same username as me.
From what i can gather about the impressions of those that finished the game is that the experience is really good. Have some flaws (story, level design, QTE implementation), but they don't stand on the way of a enjoyable playtime.

I think tha the major flaw of game isn't so much the length but the missing replay factor. If the game was short, but offered more incentives to replay the story or even specific sequences the perceived value would be better.

(We can pray that the Armory option that it's currently locked enable some kind of replay opportunity)

For those that have played it, what is the body damage and gore like? Is it as good as the trailer?

Yes! you can decapitate, disarm and do all kinds of nasty stuff, but it isn't cartoony so you need a really heavy blow for something like that to happen.

Two sides of the same coin really. I'm usually fine with short replayable games or long single-playthrough games. It all speaks to how much long term enjoyment you can expect to get out of a title.
