A lot of people have been wondering when the next major PlayStation 4 firmware update will go live considering that it’s been a while since we got the last one. While we haven’t been given a release date, Sony’s Fred Dutton has said that the upcoming firmware update isn’t “too far out.”

In response to multiple users asking about the update, he said:

I haven’t got news for you today, but the next update is not too far out. We’ll update you here asap.

Unfortunately, we have no concrete details about what the next update will bring, but if a leak from last December is to be believed, a friend notification feature might be added. Recently, a report also suggested that the PS4 may get custom backgrounds in the next update, but there’s no word from Sony on that yet.

Signs are pointing to March, with a Vita update due out then too. The major ones tend to come all at once.

PLEASE give us the option to organise our library. PS3 did this with the folder option. It's nuts having the horizontal bar to work though all your games, especially now I've got such a large library built up. I end up forgetting I've got games I haven't played for a while.

This stuff is so simple it just baffles me why it doesn't happen.

Suspend/Resume is something many clamour for but I'm actually ok without it. The PS4 boots up very fast into games imo.

Friend notifications, custom backgrounds and DLNA are what I'm interested in.

You need multiple options. Just PNG sucks for normal usage, file sizes are way to big especially when on mobile.

I always feel like the console companies are waiting on news of cfw or something similar. Nintendo just happened to release an update right after gateway went public. ps4 supposedly has a webkit exploit in the works, ps3 was always two or three days after an update to the cfws.

Really hope this update puts the media stuff on par with the x1. Give me DLNA Sony.

I am not sure of how much the PS4 & Vita currently can work togeather currently, but i am intrested in this because i am really considering getting a Vita.

I would love to be able to watch blu rays and youtube on my PS4, currently cant as I use a HDMI splitter and when the DLNA? is on my screen keeps shutting down, when i do not use splitter (which is not a option) it is fine..
PS3 has no issues neither did my 360 or X1.

Doubt it. PS 2/3 games would be cool. I came over from the xbox side when the PS4 release. Would love to play some of the PS major releases from pervious gens. Played GOW1 on a mate's PS2 so would love the chance to play the others.

For the love of God Sony please let us organise our front screens and flat out delete stuff we don't want to see.

I do not wish to see Music Unlimited. I already know what I've been doing so 'Whats New' for me is pointless. Booting straight to a tiled Game Library view would be perfect. It's OK don't cry - I promise I still will know how to access the Store.
