Rumor: Microsoft making another Xbox One controller aimed for the "hardcore"

X1 controller is the best controller ever made, its the blueprint for good controller design. Its hardcore.

What the hell is this new controller about.

Bumpers that aren't shit.
Whenever people say this I laugh. People who say this just remember a thread that said this before the XB1 released and now think it's true. If you really don't prefer them that's fine but like every controller the XB1 took a little getting used to and the bumpers function just fine.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
What a complete waste of resources. Not sure how much more you can appeal to core gamers with that controller.

Yeah the current controller is really good for shooters and racers..kinda odd statement. I would like to see a new version that had 6 face buttons and an improved D-Pad, would sell like hotcakes to pad KI players.

Oddly enough, the current controller's bumpers are for hardcore gamers that know how the bumpers were designed to be used (hint: if you're hitting them with your fingertips, you're doing it wrong).
I only used it for a bit on my PC, got annoyed and returned them. I am not hardcore by any means haha, I just want something to play games that need a controller on PC.

I'm guessing that's reason you don't have a gamertag in your profile :/
What has that got to do with anything? If it's about me not owning an Xbox then sure, but I don't actually own a playstation either... Just have my tag in there from a past life. You know xbox controller can be used on PC right???

I wonder if they will add a headphone jack instead of making you buy it separately. The word "hardcore" makes me think it will cost more than a standard controller.

Hm, a noticeable upgrade would be to use microswitches for both the facebuttons as well as the dpad. Other than that, maybe a small size adjustment to the analog stick stems?

Interesting... could see bumper improvements and maybe some additional button options for screenshots and videos to make the OS without Kinect easier to handle.

As it is I think the Xbox One controller is pretty great, some refinements would sound good to me.

I just want a white Xbone controller. Short of that, I want the head of the Xbox exec who made the decision not to sell them a la carte.

One of the biggest flaws of controller design is the inability to use half of the buttons at the same time as aiming or moving the camera. Also one of the easiest to fix - just add duplicates of the face buttons on the back of the damn thing

I actually have no huge complaints about the controller that couldn't be fixed with a few simple changes.

The face buttons are a bit loud. Don't know if they went with something that was supposed to last longer, but they're far louder when pressed than the 360 or PS4 controllers.

Also, the rear shell design is kind of terrible. The grips creak a bit and are designed in a way that you cannot tighten them or anything (they just clip in with cheap plastic bits).

I don't have an XBone and don't plan on getting one, but why are people so against internal batteries? The Wii U Pro Controller works for-goddamn-ever on a charge, why wouldn't you want that convenience? We aren't in the days of 4-5 hours of usage anymore.

Photo Button
Trackpad
Extra input button? Mappable Black and white maybe?

Paddles would rule
Why would you want a trackpad? It's used more as a glorified select button on the DS4 than an actual trackpad, I don't see it doing any better on a system where it wasn't implemented from the start.
Copy the PS4 controller please! It is perfection except for the terrible battery life.
Please no, if you want that use something like this.

I only expect more comfortable LB/RB buttons, tighter sticks, and a built in 3.5mm headphone jack. Maybe paddles like the Steam controller if they're using modded XBO controllers as a reference.

My Titanfall controller IS hardcore already.

But I would totally have to buy one that was made like a pro Pad.

Huh?

Surprised no one has asked for better A,B,X, Y buttons. For me they feel too spongy and creaky. I'd like them to see be more clicky like the Razer Xbox Controller. Speaking of Razer, what happened to their X1 controller?

This makes no sense. The current controller is pretty much perfect.

- Dpad is still a useless piece of shit for those of us that play fighting games
- Sticks are stupidly loose
- build quality is terrible. After moderate usage every controller I've used has started to loosen around the seams
- having to buy an extra 25 dollar piece of kit just to get audio from the controller is just anti-consumer nonsense

Even if with the DS4 crappy battery life I still prefer the internal battery. So much easier to just slap it into a dock when I'm done playing. Absolutely hate having to shuffle batteries around.

Yeah my XB1 controller gets charged maybe once a week. Battery life isnt a problem for the XB1 at all. The PS4... Its a problem.

The bumpers are shit.

I'm guessing that having owned the console since launch qualifies me to have this opinion?

Everything else about it other than the bumpers and the dpad are godlike however.

There is no need for new controller. They spent $100M on new design [which had some obvious flaws, including fucking deadzones that were patched out before arrival of Titanfall], and they should stick with it. It is good enough, and there is no need for more market confusion.

IMO, MS looks like it has entered into "THROW MONEY AND FIX EVERYHING" mode that even touches things that are already fine.

Sure feel free to your opinion. I guess you earned it. Lol

I get that they are hinges. I'd rather they not be.

Yeah I want aa for my iphone. Come on apple!

A phone is different from a controller. The form factor and use cases of a phone do not lend themselves to AA battery operation. A controller does accomodate, and should have the option to use commodity batteries and not a proprietary solution that, in the PS4's case, requires a wire attachment. My DS4 remains wired to the console indefinitely, because it has a low capacity battery which it burns through in about 6 hours, and can only be charged by said wire. This would not be a problem if I could just leave two AAs in the wall charger, play with two in my controller, and then swap - like I do with most of my other stuff. It would be a regression for Microsoft to go there. It's 2015 and I don't want wireless devices that require wires and/or proprietary charging docks.
