Halo |OT 23| Thruster is Love, Thruster is Life

Had a good experience with the patch this afternoon but tonight it's been host migrations and people shooting me through rocks. I tried my first ranked game & it matched my rank 1 against a 48 and a 46. I got pumped :(
Just think how much rank you'd have gained if you won though!

Impressions from three games I played.

First game I specifically searched for a Halo 4 game. Overall it took about 15-20 seconds to find a team and get into the game. It was 6v6, but somebody on their team was gone when the match started and somebody on ours left (Presumably because we were losing) not long into the match.

Second game was a Team Slayer. Matchmaking took about 45 seconds because it immediately found 6 people, but it seemed to falter when it was trying to find two more open slots. Game finally launched 3v3, but immediately somebody on their team was gone and another person left as they were losing.

Third game (The best one) was a BTB. Immediately after I joined matchmaking I found a completely full party in less then 10 seconds and the match started it about 20 seconds. Game was super great with no issues.

Overall it definitely feels vastly improved, but I can't say it's 100% just yet.

Also there's not a whole lot wrong with 3 as far I can see, what's apparently broken?
Some people are taking issue with the aim sensitivity.

More generally:
1-The audio has all kinds of issues regarding mixing, filtering, and directionality.
2-Brightness curves are kind of screwed up; the game is overly bright and washed out, and in some spots the port suffers from fairly nasty banding (the sky on Floodgate being a striking example).

Minor:
3-Dynamic shadow rendering has an offset which can give left and upper parts of object silhouettes a rather odd "bright outline."

Don't forget the throwing two grenades simultaneously glitch that happens with frequency every other game.

The sensitivity is definitively borked in terms of crossover from its parent game. Halo 2 and 4 feel practically 1:1 with their sensitivity settings. Not so Halo 3.

Guys the game stinks. Give it up.

I wouldn't say it stinks, at least you can play it decently now.

For me though, it's too little too late. There are still a lot of bugs and issues with the game. H5 is less than a year away and there are a ton of other games coming that'll occupy my time. So I really can't see myself getting back into it.

I'll definitely come back and play some ODST though!

Yeah, all this is what worries me. And apparently all the maps in matchmaking are vanilla as well, which is tragic. Vanilla Snowbound is about as bad as it gets. Besides that audio and aiming are the big ones for me, especially aiming. I want it to play exactly like it did on the 360, which I don't think is too much to ask of a barebones port.

I still can't get into BTB matches.

Always get stuck in the: Searching for Players > Players Found > Connecting Session > ... > Searching for Players loop.

So could I get the Legendary/LASO achievements using them?

Don't think so. I think what they're referring to is completion—so you'll get credit for actually running through the levels (whereas before it might not register you'd played it) but not for completing it on Legendary. If you can do that now and get Heroic/Legendary achievements, then that *is* a change with this patch. I don't remember if you could do it with CEA, but there might be precedent.

But LASO requires a certain set, and ONLY a certain set, of skulls to be active. So you can't turn on Bandanna and grenade chuck your way through CE.

Another bug that persists: Getting stuck in the Post Game Carnage Report. The option to back out of the screen never shows up. Have to quit the game and restart.

It seems to happen less than before, but still...

Back to having matchmaking issues. I ate dinner came back to play and matchmaking isn't loading it just hangs forever. One match that I did get into immediately ended when it started and booted me back to the main menu.

Then it's not fucking LASO.

Got that new survey. Hope it's a good one!

Well LASO stopped meaning LASO with CEA. And I'm fine with that—skulls are much more enjoyable as both difficulty increasing and decreasing options and ways to play the game.

It's definitely worse tonight than it was last night or even this afternoon.

Yeah seriously, why would they enable achievements with Skulls that make your life easier? If I could, I'd blast through H2 with the Scarab Scull.

Haven't tried it myself, but are you guys sure it's not just the rush of a new patch dying down and people stopped playing? I'd imagine the population is small as it is.

Also, haven't got much chance to read up on patch results, but are people getting uneven games a result of the rampant quitting disease or the game's own fault?

why do you guys keep saying this, ive played games where there is a population of 300 people and matchmaking is still pretty decent in games like that, there has to be more than 300 people playing this game.

IMO players quitting right after the vote choice or during a losing game that makes imbalanced games. Just my experience last night though.

That sucks :/

Just a simple question dude, relax... There's a decent amount of playlists. Population is probably spread pretty thin, especially in a game like Halo w/ no JiP.

Yes everyone, please be level headed like our friend, ProvenDeadly.

I don't understand why you are a pompous asshat towards me when I never aimed anything negative toward you but that is fine. My issues are with 343, not with anyone here.

And back to my original point, a lowish population isn't going to improve MM times. I'm not going to say that the game is fixed though and those issues may be legitimate.

If you're a pompous asshat to 343, you're a pompous asshat to Ram. Ram's tipping his fedora at the MCC team so hard they're becoming allergic to felt.

Fucking lmaooo

Anyway, played a few games of TS with Gringo, and it's vastly improved. Only had one uneven game in the 2 hours we played, and even that was pretty smooth. I'm fairly sure that the dedis are even working, a good portion of the games we were playing felt buttery smooth, even made Halo 3 enjoyable to play!

Haha, Scarab skull is really bandanna skull X2 for H2. I killed myself so much with constant grenade chucking in CEA, and I clip the edge of my cover and kill myself constantly in H2A. I'm better off not using either :p

I can confirm I chubbed up at least 4 times playing. That's new record for the MCC

Yeah, outside of just messing around I never used the bandana skull in CEA. Wasn't worth the hassle.

Last night I wasn't having any issues finding a match. Tonight I've been looking for a match for the past 30 minutes, backing out every 3 minutes. This fixed things?

dwells's Adventures in Halo 2 Classic: Game 8

Team BRs on Beaver Creek, hell yeah! Game starts okay, then half the other team simultaneously disconnects, leaving a 4 vs. 2. Game continues anyway, but is peer hosted and not on dedicated servers - single player has noticeable host advantage and can grenade jump, which only occurs on host. Kill trading happens, which did not occur in Halo 2 on the Xbox. Post game stats are completely broken, with teammates showing being most killed by me and me being their most killed.

Stay tuned for more!

I have played on dedis every single game. Am I in the minority.

Say what now? I've traded kills in classic Halo 2 before, Tower of Power being the easiest example.

I've had a few matches of lag, but other than that, when I'm in a match and it's not uneven teams or ends early, it's lag free. I think non-NA players definitely get screwed here especially with low player base. I don't even know if they can eliminate lag though. Fyre would know. During the Halo 5 beta though, I only had one laggy match. The rest ran smooth.

Match times are about the same as they have been on a good day before the patch for me. I know this has been answered, but was is the blueish planet on the start screen of MCC? It's not Earth or Reach right?

Those searching screens are legit. The in between game time I can chug a beer so that's cool I guess.

Is there a reliable way to check in game or are you monitoring network traffic? Also, are you playing Halo 2 Classic? The lack of dedicated servers seems to be more of an issue on certain games.

I'm talking one vs. one BR battle trading. That didn't come along until H3 or later.
