Oh shit, scratch that. Seems they just did update it, my library now says RE5/Bio5. Nice!

This annoys me now.

Hahaha, oh yeah, the lowercase thing. That's a weird one because I'm pretty sure it was written normally when RE4 first released. I think it has something to do with the logo and how the name is written in the trademark registration or something along those lines.

just tried it. works fine, achievements work. haven´t tested mp yet. Runs so smooth :> i like it. Looking forward to play the shit out of that game

so I activated my GFWL key on Steam and it went ok, now I have the game on Steam but still says there's a "product key" and I see people reporting this still installs GFWL again.. what's the deal ? why do I need a new key now (different from the one I used to redeem the game on Steam) ? isn't this supposed to be the Steamworks version or what ?

I saw over on the steam forums from people that the graphics has been changed, for the worse and they added black bars.

True?

Do you have to have completed the game to play LiN? Just wondering if I have to wait for the save transfer to go through before playing it.

From the small bit I quickly tried, didn't see anything of the sort (black bars or it looking for the worse).

I believe you need to reach Chapter 3-1 to access Lost in Nightmares.

As far as I can see, the gfwl client is installed, but not used by the game.
They need it to be there for when the data migration tool is released. In the announcement it specifically says that since migration is optional, you can just skip the gfwl installation.

There's no downgrade.
Some resolutions apparently have black bars in cutscenes, I don't know if that was always the case.

I am assuming Steam patched the "hole" where the GFWL key that was assigned to a Steam copy could be re-registered for another copy, correct?

Glad to see the Resident Evil collection is now free of the evil GFWL. The collection is almost complete. I like how Capcom embraced the steamworks. Dead Rising too.

I'll try it right now.

-------------

It shows up but I can't activate the effect. F11 just brings in a Black screen.
I think were gonna need a new mod for RE5 to get rid of the filter.

That's a shame. Hopefully someone starts working on a new mod for this and a wider FOV.

Yeah, all that's really missing is Code Veronica X HD. I'm surprised it wasn't ported right after RE4, to be honest. There's also Zero HD Remaster, which is still just a rumor but seems fairly likely.

Btw, anyone knows what the recommend brightness setting is? On the adjustment screen it says something about the letters needing to be slightly out of focus, which doesn't make much sense to me.

Mine is updating now. I'm afraid to open it though because people are saying their save games are gone. Should I wait?

The rep on Steam board the old saves are there, just not being recognized yet. There will be a patch the imports them soon.

I would be more excited for RECVX HD and RE0 HD ports than for RE7.

I don't understand how they could release this without a save migration tool.
You literally can't play any of the DLC without it. Wtf Capcom.

Uh... last I checked, you can? The DLC is completely seperate chapters from the main game. The Merc Reunion is seperate as well. I can't think that they'd hide that behind the "beat the game" requirement, though I guess it makes semi-sense given it can spoiler the story.

I posted over on the ENB forums to see if Boris might update the ENB Filter Removal tool for the new Steamworks version of RE5.

Also, if you wanna backup your save, its located here

They do hide it behind chapter 3-1, and beating the game

Bought the base game. I kinda want the DLC but the UK price goes from £5 to £17 and that just isn't impulse territory.

I'll probably boot it, play a couple of chapters to see how good it looks and then never turn it on again. I'd probably never make it to the DLC.

Aww shit, it's been so long I completely forgot how the loot works. Should I just sell any gems I find immediately or can I combine them with other stuff like in RE4?

Waiting for word on if anyone'll update the splitscreen mod before I bite. I played RE5 mostly single-player, I'd like to go co-op with a friend this time.

The beautiful world renowned Resident Evil modder Sectus is already working on a splitscreen mod and has it partially functional.

Its annoying how the installer still installs GFWL even though it doesnt need it now. Never installed it until today and it still installed that shit. Uninstalled it before i ran it.

I didn't get forced to install GFWL when I downloaded it. I got some popup that said "This program may not run correctly without GFWL" or something like that and I just ignored it and the game runs fine.

On win7 the steam installer had 3 steps to take. Distributable stuff and the 3rd one was GFWL. GFWL was never installed on the system before. Just did it an hour ago.

Anybody manage to transfer their save?

Started the Steam version up and it's telling me I don't have a save, even though I put 30+ freaking hours into the GFWL version.

EDIT: Gotta wait for MS to pass cert. tomorrow dammit.

I'm on Windows 8.1 so who knows. All I know is that I'm running the game fine and GFWL was never installed on my system.

Man, after playing the later Resident Evil games this one does seem pretty dated. Just not being able to move while aiming is a huge difference. Managing your inventory is also a big pain in the ass in this game. Why is it that sometimes I can cycle through my weapons/grenades/herbs with the D-Pad but other times it doesn't work?

Yep.

It's a Japanese publisher peculiarity of wanting the name to match the cover art. For example, Final Fantasy VII is FINAL FANTASY VII:

Resident Evil 4 is resident evil 4:

And Dark Souls is now DARK SOULS:

If you're using gamepad, if you want to cycle through weapons and herbs you have to set them on certain positions in the inventory (1st row - 2nd column, 2nd row: 1st and 3rd column, 3rd row - 2nd column). If you're using mouse and keyboard you can quickly access all your items by using 1-9 keys.

Shouldn't that be "4 resident evil" then? ;)

Oh, I guess that makes sense but I didn't see an indication that that's how it works.

Played through up to chapter 3-2 of RE5 & Lost in Nightmares.

Did they make the game harder on Veteran? I know I don't have my upgraded guns, but I did a run of RE5 in late 2013 and I do not recall having this much difficulty with it, there seems to be more enemies that I recall there being and despite doing a lot of melee moves and firing to stun then strike them, they seem to have more health and I'm running out of ammo, which I don't remember ever happening to me in RE5 this often. I don't know if Veteran is actually harder or if it's just my imagination.

DLC is well-ported. Compared to consoles I did notice two things though. Firstly, the Anchor enemies seem to have some worse path-finding, I've been seeing them sometimes get caught on walls sometimes, which I don't recall them ever doing on the 360, The second thing is the audio seems to have been improved from the 360, better job with surround sound and sounds seem to be much more audiable but still subtle, and bigger depth and effects than I recall.

Besides that and obviously higher resolution/better lighting, it seems about the same, which is what most will expect. Of course, one run through it isn't all there is as the mission has a lot of randomization features.

Some screens I took (720p, highest settings, Steam screenshots so a tiny bit compressed):

I've been noticing this quite a bit all over the place. I'm pretty sure I've gotten slightly stuck around corners the same way and I've seen a few enemies get stuck this way, and I never saw that happen in the original. There's apparently some other bugs here and there (missing music in 4-1, characters dropping pistols in versus, missing suitcases for weapons), so hopefully Capcom will patch this.

Was there any difference between DX9 and DX10? I'm running the benchmark and says it's 9.0c. How do I change it to DX10?

By the way, the original .exe has been replaced for launcher.exe. For those running in SLI, remember to change it in nvidia inspector.

I didn't notice it in the main game, but I might have just not seen it, but I definitely saw it in Lost in Nightmares, I noticed the Anchor enemies get stuck in a few instances, the most notable occurrence was a moment when the enemy in the crank dungeon was stuck along his path and couldn't move until I alerted him. I don't know what they changed to make it happen though, I think the anchors are now counted as a physical object might be it as I recall in the original the anchors would something clips through things, but been noticing now it seems their anchors are getting caught on things.

I didn't get to 4-1, or play Versus Mode, so I cannot comment on these. With Capcom, I bet they will patch it is enough people identify it, it's not a big problem (the anchors getting caught), but it is notable as something they may want to fix, it more just takes you a quick moment and makes the encounters a slight bit easier, but nothing game breaking or took me that out of it.

It's been a while but if anyone can spot the difference... It looks the same to me. Running at locked 60 too.

The bats have gotten nails (that stick out like a sore thumb, IMO) and the DX9 version has terrible evironmental filtering on the trees sticking out like a sore thumb compared to DX10's "blur" filtering that smooths them into the sky.

The only good thing about DX9 is the better textures on the characters compare to DX10 (see their clothes textures). And maybe mayyyyyyyyyyyyyybe being able to run on about 10 year old computers since DX9 is required for most EVERY PS360 port out there. Otherwise I'd like DX10 back.

The whole "oh well we need the .exe to self-boot with no version select for controllers" is a bit bullshit. You're telling me Steam can't have the controller up-down-A/B select on a pop-up menu from Steam before launching the appropriate .exe?
