Got to Defiance Bay, did some quests, and now I'm thinking about rerolling because chanters just take so long to do anything. Might go crawling back to a cipher, or build that blunderbuss-toting rogue I was thinking about. Decisions, decisions.

Swap weapons, there are 3 physical damage types, slash, crush and pierce. Hover over the enemy and their stats show up in the top left if you have fought a bunch of em. Also might want to consider slower, heavier hitting weapons if they have high DR.

Cool... ok so I figured they were just dodging all melee damage due to high defence vs. deflection... maybe I was wrong... will look into it.

Not sure which mob it was now as it was a while ago, I eventually whittled them down.

Also am I weird for not seeing transpeople as punchline in this particular "joke"? For me it's more about insecurities of heterosexual man that can't deal so he kills himself. Then it would be totally different ballgame if he e.g. had killed transperson before killing himself.

Source
It seems pretty clearly that he killed himself because he slept with a who he thinks is a man.. and he's not into men and so feels cheated and ashamed of the idea.

It's not pro-trans like others are saying. And it's not about insecurities. I doubt the writer was thinking that deep into it.

Just seems like an immature attempt at being funny.

There sure are a whole damn bunch of
skeletons
on
Floor 6
of the endless paths. Like, a lot. A lot lot.
Also Eder is a god damn tank. When everybody else is already down his endurance isn't even beginning to get low. This shield and the two deflection rings are really paying of.

I just finished that floor. Felt like I was playing Diablo haha

Go gunner rogue. I've been playing it and it's so fun. Two weapon slots with guns and one with a close range dagger if things get close. I'm thinking about doing a musketeer run where my whole party is a unit of soldiers that just pour shots into the enemy.

Yeah, gunner rogue sounds fun. Maybe start with island aums for that weapon slot, and just swap from gun to gun while getting my reload speed down with 18 dex and the right talents.

Holy crap I haven't had this much fun with cRPG combat in a long time. Although I do miss the ten minute batman prep time before a boss fight in BG2 where I would cast all the buffs I can. Or maybe not.

How is the performance of the game with onboard graphics? Say an i3-4150 (3MB, 3.50 GHz). I'm wondering what level of detail the game might have to run at with 1080 resolution. This rig has 8 MB of fast memory with a nice motherboard and will be getting a R9 280x at some point, but I don't think I'll be able to hold off on playing until then.

Poor. You'll have to turn the resolution way down.

Small annoyance [early act 2 side quest spoiler]
When you're trying to get the armor back for Rogue Knight quest, you end up having to either give the proof of forgery to the knight for no gain, or kill him to take the armor, I wish there was an option to just trade the proof of forgery for the armor. That seems like the logical thing to do, it would make both parties happy.

What's up with the framerate drops in Defiance Bay when a large amount of NPCs appear? My system seems hardly taxed CPU/GPU wise during those parts. (i5 2500k @ 4.4 GHZ, GTX 760)

This close to pulling the trigger on this game at GMG.

Few questions. I think I've read that the story for the game is more serious then it is humorous. At least compared to something like Divinity: Original Sin. How true is this? How about compared to something like Dragon Age or

Do you eventually get a keep or some kind of stronghold for you characters? Answer can be spoiler tagged.

Is there one true lead character ala old Fallout games? Or just a group effort where there is no one that stands out?

Can characters have their own personality or are they just characters with stats and everything else is up to your own imagination?

1) Yes, it has humorous stuff in it ofc, but the main story so far seems to be pretty serious.

2)
yes

3) Not sure on this one. I think your created character is technically the lead?.

4) You choose some stuff about their past in character creator and you kinda define what their personality is in dialogue by how you answer and the choices you make.

That is the issue there then. All NPC's, including your party, are 3D modeled so they take more juice from GPU to render, but if HW utilization is poor then frame rate will drop.

I haven't kept eye on HW utilization while playing PoE, but I also have noticed big FPS drop when in Defiance Bay.

Has anyone tried a spellsword/melee wizard? They have a ton of useful self-only defensive buffs and melee spells, but I dunno how the stats would work out.

So I tried to help with Sou Da's savegame loading problem as described here:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=157968931&postcount=4021

He PM'd me a few of his save files and I confirmed that they won't load on my PC either.

..but now every new save file I make is similarly corrupted. Even after reinstalling the game. Even after loading a Windows restore point from a few days ago.

I'm trying to load a full Windows backup now but holy shit, awful, awful bug.

holy fuck.

I hope Obsidian fixes that ASAP. That's gamebreaking in every sense of the word.

So, Defiance Bay.

Holy hell at the number of quests I'm picking up. Not to mention there's a second city close to this size?!

Madness.

I haven't reached Defiance Bay yet but... that's like the exact same feeling I had in Athkatla in BG2. I mean, last time I played I was still beginning Act 3 and I had wasted like 15 hours doing sidequest after sidequest after sidequest. It's amazing. If they can replicate that here in PoE... then man, I am in for a ride.

I just hope I don't get a nasty bug that fucks up my save, lol.

What the... wow. Crazy that the effect would stay through all of that.

Did the MSAA 0 command, turned Vsync off.

However, it's still just as choppy as I imagined it'd be. Totes a slideshow situation. :(

Paging Durante and/or GeDoSaTo users
casual questions imminent

I've never used GeDoSaTo before; is it possible to use GeDoSaTo to lower the resolution to something like 800x600?

Browsing through the thread, I've created a GeDoSaTo.ini for Pillars of Eternity using the following lines you've suggested to another GAFer-

clearRenderResolutions
renderResolution 800x600@60
forceAlwaysDownsamplingRes true
modifyGetCursorPos true

However, are these 4 the only lines I need to include in the ini?
Do I need any more lines from the main config/GeDoSaTo.ini to make this work (if such a thing is even possible)?

Currently, with my gibberling-tier GeDoSaTo settings, the game crashes instantaneously after clicking the shortcut

But there is

Hm. I tried the option where you give him the proof first and then ask for the armor, but logically it would have a higher chance of working if you frame it as a trade in the first place, rather than giving him what he wants and then hoping he will give you what you want. I saved right before the encounter and kept trying but I didn't find any combination that would let me get the armor with the knight guy staying alive as well. I may have just missed something.

Does anyone know the mechanics behind the Rogue's Escape ability? I'm not sure how long the immunity to Engagement lasts. Is it throughout the encounter? Does it just disengage you from all enemies once, but you can become Engaged again? The immunity makes it seem like the Rogue would be completely un-aggroed by any enemy during the encounter and thus would never take hits directly targetted to them from an enemy after using Escape.

Anoregon

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
I am starting to really dislike how easily enemy archers can pick off my less sturdy companions.

Working through everything in Defiance Bay felt like a game all by itself. There's almost too much content there.

Also, the goddamn pets in the game are too much. I squeal every time I see a new one, and I usually hate that type of stuff. But now I have Babe the piglet following me around, there's no way I could say no to that.

Putting up defence buffs with priest should help quite a lot with that and then you can even throw some CC at enemy archers while melee deals with melee attackers.

So about that Dyrford Crossing dungeon...
I sacrificed the ranger girl to a blood pool to get stat boosts for my main character. The bitch had to die.

Btw that place gives a crazy amount of valuable loot. I think I got like 14k when I sold everything after clearing that place. Any other places like that? I want to get paid son.

If you go gunner be sure to get the gun hidden in the bandits ten in the first area.

Kana is an island aunauma and totally lost their extra weapon set from the racial passive. You might be able to fix it by dismissing them and bringing them back on, but if you screwed up on your PC, well ... :(

damn I have the bug as well, I lost the racial ability of my character. I thought about reporting but I guess it's well known. Not a huge deal but clearly very annoying.

Decided to buy it. Game is downloading...

I haven't played a game like this in a while. I tend to like melee types in RPGs. How are the melee classes in this game?

Barbarian does a sort of cleave and can be slow+hard hitting or fast+lighter. Bit of a reckless class that hits harder as it takes hits.
Rogue I've found is okay. Does good damage but has poor survivability. But then I made it a glass cannon so maybe that's the problem.

So after the cloud save fuckup I decided to see the good side about this and with my reroll I retouched one of the ingame protraits so it looks more like me.
male_human_bo_lgygpw5.png

The portrait already looked similar to me (same eyes and eybrows) so I decided to draw my hair and beard to it (and retouch things here and there) and now I have a protrait that looks a lot like me saving not having any glasses.
Really cool you can add your own pngs as portraits to the game.

quick tip, you can get to to act 2 on hard with lvl 4/almost level 5 in roughly three to three and a half hours if you "skip" through most of the dialogues (that you know by now anyhow, so just picked the same answers as last time) and enemy encounters

the way I did it:
always use fast mode when walking around a map; go straight to Gilded Valley and get the two companions; get the all quests, head north to the bear forest and complete the two quests there; go south to recruit Durance (always stay on the main path in wilderness areas to avoid enemies); go east, kill the bandits and retrieve the iron; go to Caed Nua and recruit Kana Rua - you can do the watcher quest now or later when you return, you only have to fight the two ghost groups and the spiders in the dungeon; head to the bridge, do the quest, then go to the Compass and finish the quest there; go back to Gilded Valley, turn in the quests; go down to the temple, straight to the bells, then to the hidden room on the second floor skipping everything else; walk through the forest in the east on the path; climb up the walls of the keep, kill the two guards, loot the monk outfits and put them on, open the secret entrance in the chapel and talk to the priest, go down the dungeon and free the prisoner (and kill the animancer if you want), go back to the priest and get the key, then face Raedric; go back to Caed Nua, then south to Woodend Plains to make Sagani join your party. From here you can either go to Defiance Bay to finish act 1 or to Dyrford Village.

you should obtain all the important items that way afaik and you only lose out on a bit of xp from opening and disarming traps and bestiary entries. You can do some optional stuff on the that would probably give you more reputation points

Thanks Violet, going to do something similar.

Steam customer service? Surely they can do something? Sucks man..
Dont think they can do anything (also isnt steam customer servive pretty slow and shitty?) Shit happens, time to reroll and do better.

Whoa, what is the cloud save bug??

Not a game bug, happened also to me with alan wake, if the pc shuts down while the cloud is saving it erases your local saves. Not using cloud saves ever again, thats for sure.

The player character is the lead. Stuff happened that made him/her special
Can characters have their own personality or are they just characters with stats and everything else is up to your own imagination?
There are unique party members that have their own story, questline and dialogue. You can also hire party members at the inn. It takes you to the same character creation screen like you did with the player character. But those hired at the inn have no story or quest line, or dialogue.

When it comes to the player character, there are dialogue choices in conversations, and the game remembers those choices you make and records it in the reputations system. There is an option that you can turn on so you see what kind of response you are choosing. (Honest, diplomatic, cruel, etc.) I came across one conversation and it recognized me being an honest guy because of the Honest responses I made with conversations with other people.
