Nintendo Direct: new presentation on April 1st

Awesome Direct, loved it, actually surprised me with how good it was. Only disappointment is still no reg N3DS for NA and WHY did they feel the need to push Woolly World to "Fall"? Seriously, no major summer Wii U title between Splatoon and Mario Maker? Thought for sure Yoshi would be out in June or July. It looks all but finished, are they possibly worried Yoshi would cut into Splatoon's summer sales? That doesn't seem warranted.

Watching the Treehouse Splatoon stream now, I'm really warming up to it more. I mean, it always looked fun but I never felt hooked into it until now. Also, is it just me or does single player mode kinda give off a nice, slight Jet Force Gemini vibe?

I would not worry about 3DS. We knew what is coming before E3. This was suppose to show Wii U games in the summer. Guess not for NoA!
Hope you guys play Splatoon for 3 months.

Disappointing direct personally, even more so given the news of the FE game being two different versions.

Excited for SMTxFE though. Always been a fan of the Persona games, even more so then regular old SMT ones.

Kinda missed the VC and Indie sections due to freaking out about SMTxFE. Plenty of indie love this year.

Weren't you expecting it to be at least a little darker though given the nature and tone of SMT and FE? I was actually really disappointed to see it was basically all candy and rainbows with blaring awful J-POP.

But what I posted highlights the incredibly awful and desperate business decisions Nintendo is resorting to these days.

DLC, Amiibo exclusive locked content, collectable cards, F2P games, virtual console upgrade fees, and remasters up the wazoo.

It's hard being a Nintendo fan anymore, it really is. All I want, is new quality first party games. No extraneous bullshit. What do you Wii U owners even have to look forward to this year? Yoshi's Wally World and Splatoon? Oh wow, I'm so pumped.

Well, I'm definitely looking forward to Xenoblade Chronicles X, Starfox (although I'm gonna reserve judgement until actually seeing it) Mario Maker, Yoshi and Splatoon(Thanks for laughing at me in advance for being excited for those, that felt fantastic), Fatal Frame as well. Looking forward to Rodea and a lot of the indies too(but I'm guessing indies don't count for some reason). All the Smash and MK8 DLC that's gonna lead me to pour many more hours into them. And I'll wait and see if they announce anything else for 2015 at E3.

And I have other systems to play as well so I mean it's not like I'm gonna be spending all of my time on just Wii U anyway. And before you say "But what about all those people who only own Wii U's?" Well if they're excited the games I'll just let them be excited and if they aren't they aren't. And I'm not in a mood to go on an endless back and forth about Nintendo's business practices so if you're through insulting my tastes in video games I don't think we need to discuss anything further.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Overall, I liked the Direct. It was less bombastic than I thought (I expected one brand new game announced), and it had things I don't appreciate that much (Mii Plaza Premium...wut), but it had other nice news, localisations and SMTxFE. So, good overall.

Still, so many amiibos.

And it's two months before E3 too, so they couldn't drop too many brand new games.

Oh, care to share some information with us Mr. Insider?

Sales of pretty much every Star Fox game post-SF64? I dunno, I don't think any of them have really been considered Triple-A Nintendo games. As a gamer you can disagree, but despite his Smash Bros popularity, Fox isn't a super popular top level Nintendo franchise.

Yup, the 3DS is really slowing down. My bet is that it's being replaced soon. Pokemon Z could be the last big game.

Was hoping to get a little more use out of my New 3DS than Zelda, Xenoblade and STEAM. The hardware improvements are nice but pretty much moot if those are the only big games. Obviously Fire Emblem will be awesome, but otherwise I don't see anything interesting coming at all besides indies.

This direct was hype as hell. Mewtwo! Badass new amiibos! Awesome Mario Kart 8 updates! Splatoon! New Fire Emblem! More Streetpass shit, which I'm oddly addicted to!

And this treehouse stream is excellent, as expected. Splatoon and Arkham Knight gonna throw down for GOTY 2015.

Are some people really complaining about the contents of a Direct 2 months before E3. We know Fatal Frame is finally coming and that almost made the Direct for me.

except is is building from scratch.

There is no simple port from melee or brawl button.

GASP. I THOUGHT THERE WAS A BUTTON.

Project M had to reverse engineer their tools, yet they've done a good job of porting Roy and Mewtwo to Brawl with what they've had to work with. And I guarantee you they (Sakura's team) had some method of porting at least some of the content from Brawl to Smash 4, no matter what Sakurai has said on the subject. Because that would be stupid otherwise. Really, really stupid.

Fighting Game Characters are a lot of work...even if you have references.

Oh, is Smash a fighting game now? I thought Sakurai said it was a wacky party game.

But seriously, yes, fighting game characters are a lot of work. But this long for characters they aren't designing from scratch? I assumed they were bringing more to the table than this, unless they're setting up a lot of groundwork for later DLC.

Hyrule Warriors has kind of spoiled me. It's a vastly different game, yes, and I'm sure you'll point out all the ways that's the case (and somehow that it's easier to do DLC because they're fighting grunts and deal damage in similar ways, etc), but seeing all the imaginative characters and new additions, the game constantly feeling like it's evolving... I want that out of Smash. I know they can't move at quite that speed, but all this talk for characters that already existed in the franchise, and weren't redesigned with all new primary moves, that just seems like something's wrong.

I didn't know Starfox was coming out this year (it would have been nice if they at least mentioned that it's still progressing nicely), that certainly changes the equation for me personally as that's one of my favorite Nintendo franchises.

I've never liked ANY of the Yoshi style games. I still feel bummed I spent full price on Yoshi's Story. Splatoon is a cool idea and I'm glad they are finally making a new IP, I just don't like the art style at all. But I do commend them for at least trying something new, and I'd probably be more likely to pick that up just to support Nintendo doing more of this kind of thing in the future.

I won't get into Nintendo's business practices further than what I said already.

The most epic part of the Direct on Twitch:

When the Fire Emblem trailer was on and the little girl said "Onii-chan" and the entire chat started to spam Onii-Chan and OniiBoys. I haven't laughed in a Direct that much.

Once upon a time Nintendo would release a game every month.

Sigh.

I'm really regretting falling for the Wii U hype this past winter and buying one. Glad I held off on the new 3ds.

Oh well, 200cc is a pleasant surprise

E3 is right around the corner, I would reassess then.

Early MK DLC plus 200cc mode, rough date for Mario Maker, specific date for Splatoon, Fatal Frame on the way... I'm happy. In an idea world, there'd have been more on Devil's Third and a Xenoblade date, but neither are particularly essential. Great pre-E3 Direct for me.

Watching now.

I haven't bought Smash yet (lol), but I loved all the announcements, new characters, amiibos, updates and awesome DLC price! Y'all better ask for Kyle Hyde from the Hotel Dusk series.

*continues to watch*

I hope someone analyses the Mario Maker trailer and determines if the physics changed when the tilesets did

There's no way, they would have mentioned it considering the whole trailer was them switching tile sets on the fly and that could potentially break levels depending on how exact you are about tile placement.

To be fair, the subset of people who want and would legitimately use the different physics is MINUSCULE. The vast majority of people don't care, and would be actively pissed when their levels start breaking.

I was expecting something different but the idea of SMT and FE characters saving the world together never made much sense to me anyways and Project X Zone soured me on cameo-based RPG crossovers. Really my only issue with the game is that I'm not seeing any SMT motifs but it looks fun to me.

I was hoping for Devil's Third (given the MA rating, but Fatal Frame must have took that spot). E3 it is.
Yeah, I feel like were way overdue for seeing something new from the game. Itagaki has hyped it up a handful of times on facebook so I'd figured it show up in a Direct by now.
