I read the first page, then jumped to the last....this thread totally did not evolve the way I thought it would.

So I know the mods don't get paid, but do Bish and Gromph?

I got paid 1 cookie for each ban i make. So far i only banned 5 people, and 3 don't count as requested, so i can say you i'm very hungry.

Would be an amazing thing to say, and it be true. Imagine being paid to write official topics for the forum or moderate or handle back end stuff?

The thought crossed my mind thinking on how absolutely large and influential this forum has become over the years. It's probably THE source for most gaming news I'd imagine (GAF -> Internet -> GAF) and had me wondering when does a forum transcend into something like a full blown website similar to other loved sites like say, The Verge or IGN?

The guy (Evileore) is super busy, so maybe a Mod would be able to tell us if he's ever thought about moving the forum in that direction.

As much love as there is, there's be no shortage of folks wanting in on the action!

I can't say anything you described sounds appealing.

First of all, forum mods are usually free labor. A forum admin knows he doesn't have to pay mods because people are willing to do it for free.

Also, the stigma of saying you work for a game forum would be too much for me to actually want to tell people that I do that for a living.

Also, there's no way moderating a forum would pay as well as my job.

All in all, I'm glad to just be a member. I don't have to police anyone, and therefore suffer from people treating me differently from other members, or clean up people's posts.

Every time all the mods get up in a thread I get real excited that it's a tag-fishing thread. But I just realized I've already been tagged twice, once to "Junior Member" and then once to "Member" and I figure it's probably best I don't go fishin', my track record with tags ain't so hot...

You know, why is it called "tag-fishing" anyway? Such an inaccurate metaphor.

It's not like tags actually pre-exist and are "swimming" in the "ocean" of posts to be "baited" onto our status "line". Tags have to be created, generated, on-the-spot amidst and from context.

I believe it should be called "tag-cronusing" instead.

i.e.; I, a "spouse" via my Member status—mod-approved thus elevated to such "marital" ranking—"procreate" with the thrusting forum, and from my "fertile loins" is born the godly post that is tag material. I offer this "progeny" up to the passing mod, forum commandant and so the ravenous "titan", for their approval; they then stare upon my post's visage as they "pluck it from my bosom for consumption", for judgement ultimatum.

If it is deemed too offensive and/or desperate-sounding by the mod, my post is "devoured" before my eyes in anti-prophetical retribution and I am wracked with agony and grief, "losing myself" to the "titan"; my heart breaks, and I feel "banished", emotionally shunned. My post and I thus share that grim fate of the swallowed infant gods of yore, until I am delivered out of ennui by their "coital" intervention, and I can issue forth progeny once more.

However, if it is deemed worthy/comedic by the mod and the general public; my "spawn", my post, by virtue of connivance escapes its tragic fate and is whisked out from between the "titan's fingers" away into maturity, into myth, into taggery; its deeds immortalized in title. And so, when such a status symbol is viewed by the mortal masses, the resplendent glory of my deified "child" may outshine even the venerable blood of the moderator "titans", and my actions are vindicated; such acclaim, only made possible through their ironic self-defeat.

I'm surprised. Isn't that quite a bit of free work, then?

Clearly it's to be immortalized.
