That's both a touching and haunting photo. Any further information or story behind the deaths?

It's Pompeii.

Fuck spoilers, I'm lying.

So they got banned huh? Yeah, saw that coming a mile away. Anyway, it's still so early in the gen but it seems like the damage is done. Price drops and bundles only got MS so far and the wick is starting to burn out. Any ideas on what they could possibly do? Sony is already trouncing and they have the VR gun locked and loaded. It's kinda worrying. I didn't invest in xbox this gen but Sony Vs. Nintendo isn't what I want as a console buyer. Yeah, I game on my PC mainly but I still want my console companies to have a reason to fight.

A redesign with a new marketing scheme could be powerful.

Ok, so can we have some honest conversation now? From the financial analysts in the house is the XBO bringing in a profit for MS?

The way it was worded, revenues are down, buy so are costs. So is the net a profit? And if so, isn't that a hell of a lot better than last gen when the 360 was losing money hand over fist?

Idk. The deceased BOM from shedding kinect should have helped, but that is still offset to a degree by by the price cut, pack ins and any deals that may be going on. MS does a great job of hiding the profitability of the division. I'm certain Live is still helping the situation

Well, Phil did say that E3 will be very 1st party focused, so MS is heading in the right direction.

As per my original post, just $399 standalone + $499 Kinect bundle.

The DRM debacle did make fans distrust MS and probably transition to Playstation, but as we saw at launch, it didn't matter too much.

Well, MS did do a 180 shortly after E3. Because of that, I think it would be difficult to ascertain if people would have continued with their purchase of the Xbone (complete with DRM) or if they would have held off on their purchase.

A public repudiation of DRM isn't quite the same as solid sales info that repudiates a DRM console. The former is simply words and emotions; the latter is data that can be used for empirical analysis.

I would honestly love a redesign with less nms, but I don't see it happening before E3 2016.

I agree, but to what end? It's a very tough spot to be in. Sony is standing on their neck and it would have to be a hell of a marketing campaign to boost interest. Not impossible but damn, I'm glad I play games instead of having to put on the suit and figure this stuff out.

You're incorrect.

He/she were corrected already by the kind citizens of Gafthom.

They need to hit it big on one or two of their new IPs in combination with a redesign and windows 10 integration/marketing.

Ok, this I can believe in. It would take a lot of restructuring all at once to change the perception. They should only be concerned with long term gains at this point because short term money tossing and reliance on last gen blockbusters isn't going to be as helpful imo.

Yeah talk is cheap, we hear this same thing from all 3 every year.

I don't recall any of the big 3 (Nintendo doesn't have a choice) saying that E3 was going to be 1st party focused. I also don't remember the Phil tweet that people are bringing up. Did he really say that it was going to be 1st party focused or just "more" focus on 1st party?

I think in this business, people usually have a short attention span. I seriously didn't expect that infamous Reveal to do such long term damage (although it convinced me not to purchase a Xbox One).

Maybe they need to change their message? Although, it seems there message of games games games hasn't been a game changer. Or it could be that potential buyers are waiting for a deal like last holiday season (I am).

come on. you're talking about franchises that established themselves last gen. a lot of those didn't even get released during the 1st year of the consoles.

also, we already had cod, nba 2k, destiny, etc. and those definitely moved systems. if not, then how come ps4 sold 20+ million already? and please, no bullshit like "sold on hype alone trolololol." people bought these systems today to play those games that drive hardware and it will only grow from here.

also, you just proved my point. you said the library was weak, and you made exceptions to that statement. not only that, but you then go on to say the lack of blockbuster aaa is not moving systems. i don't understand what your point is. the lack of aaa does not mean the library is weak. period.

This is a sales discussion no? From a sales point of view the library is VERY weak. As in hugely weak. There has never been so many cross gen games and remasters in a console transition ever.

I don't see the counter argument for the current lineup not being weak from a sales perspective. We are JUST starting to get warmed up with Bloodborne, Witcher 3, Batman Arkham Knight, Star Wars Battlefront, Halo 5, etc. hitting this year. These are the types of games people upgrade for. They can't play them on their legacy consoles.

Again, if you believe that Resogun or Transistor are moving hardware I don't know what to tell you.

Doing it is the hard part. There are so few new IPs that reach the same level of success (mass market appeal) as say Gears/Uncharted/TLOU. One has to get incredibly lucky.

The library may not be great, but non-Japan consumers don't care, which is a boon to both Sony and MS.

Imagine if RotW were as aphetic to new gen as Japan is because cross-gen games .

We haven't seen anything from these consoles yet. If people are impressed with sales now, wait until the big hitters finally arrive. When Fallout, Uncharted, Batman, etc. hit. We haven't see a thing yet. There are plenty of consumers just sitting waiting for a real reason to upgrade I'm sure.

We only have, what 30ish million units of hardware shipped? If this is "only" a 150 million unit gen there are still 120 million consoles waiting to be sold. THAT is your mass market base.

The whole CGi thing is overblown. MS only had 3(technically 4) CG reveals last year.

Their bigger issue was announcement of games that are obviously too early in development.

Phil also stated, more gameplay reveals, less CG

I'm sure we'll get gameplay reveals for games announced last year.

That sounds promising but that makes me fear it'll be CG trailers for games not coming out until 2017

Well, Crackdown 3 and Scalebound only had CG trailers last E3, so I reckon MS will show gameplay footage for both games. Also, I find MS's E3 conference to be fairly predictable:

Gameplay fooage of Crackdown 3, Scalebound, Halo 5, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Fable: Legends, and The Division. Official announcement of Gears 4 w/ CG reveal trailer + a new IP or two.

It was last E3 too. Why would this year be any different?

I have not heard this. For this E3?

Technically last year was all about games for us gamers. This year it is all about first party games.

All kidding aside if MS delivers a conference full of 1st party exclusives and TR I will be pleasantly surprised.

Do we know if Crackdown 3 is in actual development yet? Serious question.

Whoa, crawl before you walk! If you're saying all 1st party games with one (timed) 3rd party game for a whole E3 conference then that's not going to happen in 2015 whether you're Sony or MS.

First look at new Assassin's Creed and Forza 6 as well? More Quantum Break?

There's supposedly something Gears related for release this year. We're probably going to see Battletoads and we just might see Rare's other game as well (rumor is Banjo).

And no doubt indie and PC development announcements as well. Seems a bit too early for HoloLens teasers, but maybe we'll see something.

There will be a lot of game content, but what I feel they need is a new flagship AAA IP to join the likes of Gears, Halo, and Forza.

So who wants to bet on a price cut to $299 @ E3?

Maybe even $299 with a few free games.

They will do a price cut and advertise it with 11 free games. It will rock the world.

Until everyone realises they are just EA access games.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Forza 6 and Quantum Break >_<

With that many games, I think MS's E3 conference is pretty set, unless they move some of those games to Gamescom.

Maybe they do a slim version.

Cut down on hardware costs. Start selling over priced HDD replacements etc...

Heh, i remember reading something about the way they designed XBO's innards making it difficult or more costly to do a slim version, but maybe i'm just way off-base.

I agree hence why I said pleasantly surprised.

To be fair it is not all that farfetched considering the first party games they have coming out this fall/ next year. You figure we'll see Halo 5, Forza 6 and TR for sure. Probably QB, Scalebound, Crackdown 3, Fable Legends and possibly a Gears teaser. Add a new IP, exclusive indies and a marketing deal and that's the basic outline of MS E3 conference. However, I'm sure they'll spend plenty of time on FIFA and Madden etc.

I expect MS to try to have a big E3 since USA means so much to them.
Sony will just be okay , i see GC being bigger for them( price cut time) plus there is TGS and PSX so they spread there stuff out more.

Idk, I think Sony is going all in too. Its looking like this E3 is going to be massive. I mean even Bethesda and Square Enix have their own press conferences.

It makes sense as well. I think a lot of devs were cautious coming into this generation. Hence all of the remasters and cross generation titles. Now that they know this gen is off to a roaring start it makes sense everyone is ready to reveal.
