DriveClub PS+ Edition Has Been M.I.A. For 100 Days

The way I see it, folks that are waiting for the PS+ version don't seem to care much about all the "connectivity" and stuff. They just want to try it out, a glorified demo if you will.

And I am sure, as has some people expressed in here, that they will buy the game anyway if Driveclub is truly as wonderful as many of its more determined fans seem so fond on saying, even if the online portion is cut.

At this point something is really better than nothing.

Yeah, I've said this previously, they should offer an offline demo with a selection of cars and some time-to-beat targets so people can see if they like the handling and such. If they don't like the handling then then online club aspect isn't going to be very appealing anyway.

Remember when the 'Sony changed their minds so they can sell more retail copies' crowd were just conspiracy theorists..

Wasn't that the general consensus though?
The whole way they marketed this PS+ version was suspicious from the beginning, and after their delay they were pretty much forced to can it. That's how I see it.

Also, some people already mentioned we will probably see Driveclub be a part of the IGC when there is no other first party game around the corner.

Oops, realized i responded to posts older than my last response (just happened to have that page loaded up and they were new to me).

And I don't know about an offline one now. I kinda just would want them to acknowledge they haven't forgotten us. And maybe give us a little something extra for the inconvenience.

I'm glad to see they still have the patience to respond to the question. Imagine how many times they've had to basically say, "it's a work in progress and there aren't any updates to the timeline."

Well, Sony, I caved yesterday and just bought DriveClub. Your wicked scheme worked! *cries* #partoftheproblem

...

Now... I'm really excited to play it!

At least you're part of the problem months later at a reduced price. I planned to take the PS+ version until the weather patch hit (figured I didn't need two racers a week apart).

Bought it 2 days after release...

lol this a complete fucking joke

I think that Sony wants to just sweep the PS+ edition underneath the rug and make sure that everyone loses hope about it so it can become a memory.

Just like they did with THE LAST GUARDIAN.

They're going to announce it at E3 and it will be available either the day of or the next day.

This is my guess as well.

I think that Sony wants to just sweep the PS+ edition underneath the rug and make sure that everyone loses hope about it so it can become a memory.

Yeah ... except that Evolution has been mentioning the PSN+ version every month in their patch notes. In the latest patch notes they even said that there will be more news on the release soon ...

It's too late for me now anyway. I almost bought it until I heard about the server issues. Then I figured I'd check it out on PS+ when it arrived, and now whatever interest I had in this game evaporated.

My guess is this story is repeated quite a bit.

Bring on Project Cars.

I would think they would stray from even mentioning it at E3 in order to not bring the subject up.

I don't think it's an outstanding racer, but if there's a driving game that shows well on the PS4, Driveclub is the one to pick. Since the bad press is already out there, I think it would be cool to deliver on the goodwill gesture of the PS+ Edition and take a moment to highlight the much improved state of the game. I bought the retail version long ago, but this is still something that people would appreciate.

The patch notes from a week ago mention they're in the final stretch of prep-work for the PS+ Edition, so it's (eventually) still coming.

I'm not sure if that is dedication or just an undeniable desire to prove everyone wrong half a year later.

Still kudos to them for (finally) releasing it and not releasing it as an unworking piece of shit like many others would have done.

I'm surprised that people still care about the plus edition. Hype for me died a long time ago and even though the game is cheap, I've lost all interest. They'd be better off giving the full game away than wasting resources working on the plus edition at this point.

I feel it's coming soon. The new starter circuit included in the newest DC update make no sense for current owners.

I'm not sure you understand why the PS+ Edition hasn't arrived yet.

They're not working on making a limited version of the game, they're working on being able to handle the player count. It doesn't matter what version they give away.

I was going to get ps+ just for this demo and ended up getting the full game for less than subbing (gamestop $20 physical in store deal).

I bet they will give away the whole game on PS+ insteed of a demo version too save there reputation.

I don't think so. Don't see how that would make sense, personally.

The game has - from a general point of view - a good reputation among the people that have played it.

Ridiculous. Looking forward to the full game on PS+,it'll make sense with the shift towards the game becoming a service.

If you care so significantly, don't you think that it might be interesting to consider the actual full game that is available right now? ;)

I think what they mean with the game becoming a service is that the basic PS+ Edition will be free for everyone (no PS+ required) and that you'll be able to upgrade to the standard complete edition and that you'll be able to purchase additional expansions if you want even more content.

Completely unacceptable it is still not out.

Definitely a bit of an annoyance and not so nice, but I wouldn't say it's unacceptable if they're clear with the communication.

Delays happen. Video game development is not a 100% foreseeable and predictable process. (well that's the case in many engineering and software engineering fields, and others) Definitely a bit weird that in this case the full version of the game is out and and stripped-down version is taking a long time, but yeah I think the reasons behind it make sense. It's understandable that they want to prioritize that the game is 100% functional for the full version; for people who bought the game and spent money and therefore avoid potentially overloading the servers by releasing the PS+ Edition.

Anyway, you can always buy the game right now if you want. :)

Who do they think actually believes this shit ? lmao

If find it weird that you considered yourself hyped for a game that you apparently didn't want to purchase? Surely if you were at the point of being 'hyped', then you were probably interested in the game enough that you'd consider it worth purchasing? (And if you were hyped, then I assume you probably estimated the likelihood of liking the game being pretty high)

Also, they're working on the server performance and netcode. It needs to be able to perform very well with a very large amount of users. Giving the full game away isn't going to change anything. They need to be able to handle the player count and server traffic and they're working on that. So they aren't wasting resources I'd say. :)

pretty embarrassing and it seems my fav arcade racing studio from last gen has paid the price :(

People need to stop downplaying this fuck up. It was a display of epic incompetence.

There's no way, it's far too big a risk. If it doesn't work when the PS+ version comes out, and the chances are that it won't, there's no way at all they want that press at E3.

It'll just be announced as a third PS4 game one month, no fanfare.

I stop playing plus edition for few months...It is a big demo anyway.
Single race is just 5 or 6 tracks of India. Tour mode got locked after 3 round. I also try to join some Multiplayer match but I been kick out after first match bacause of non-india track won't load up on my Plus edition. all DLC were locked. last time I enjoy the game was the weather patch come out at January.

It's been fucking how many months now? If they still haven't figured out capacity, especially now with the playerbase presumably dropping off since launch was so long ago, then they will never figure it out. Stop being naive.

Not showing at launch was an inconvenience. Being delayed again was an annoyance. Having a game launched months ago and for sale is not a delay. That is a failure. That is unacceptable.

I do understand, but I don't think the interest is there anymore for a lot of people. The game is very cheap as it is and I just feel the game missed its window.

I think it's so fucking dumb that you're seriously suggesting that people who were waiting for the free version to spend money on the retail version. I will never get over people thinking that's a serious suggestion. I've vented on this topic so much, so it's not really concern trolling, just concern in general.

The PS+ thing sounds like a gimmick that somebody at Sony thought up in an elevator as a way to smooth over online multiplayer going behind a paywall for PS4. "But you get a full AAA launch game for free with your PS+ subscription!"

I really like Driveclub, but I think Sony and Evolution should have just had faith in the game for what it is and focused all their efforts and time on that rather than trying to use it as a Playstation+ subscription ploy. Now there's this cloud hanging over the game for having failed at offering something which has nothing to do with what the product actually is.

I don't think it's unacceptable, it isn't like people paid money for it and didn't get it.

When you offer an optional consumer product that isn't a basic need, but rather an entertainment product or luxury good but you need to delay your product, I don't think you owe the potenial consumers something. Unless people paid money for it already in advance of course. But that isn't the case here, since it's an F2P, stripped-down version. (though maybe some people bought PS+ subscription partially due to the DRIVECLUB PS+ Edition? In that case it's definitely unacceptable if they refuse, unless they refund said PS+ subscription)

So I would consider it an annoyance and an inconvenience, but not something that is unacceptable.

At this point, anything else than the complete game will be embarrassing for Sony, I hope it will be on PS+ pretty soon though.

Well I think that if you're in position where you're looking forward to the game so much and that the game looks significantly appealing to you if you have watched a lot of gameplay, then I think it's unlikely that you would regret getting the full version and paying for it.

But I understand that you might want to be sure that you like the game and want to completely try it out hands-on before making a purchase. The PS+ Edition delay is definitely an unfortunate, inconvenient annoyance.

At this point, anything else than the complete game will be embarrassing for Sony, I hope it will be on PS+ pretty soon though.

I disagree (reasons outlined in my previous posts in this thread). I wouldn't get my hopes up for the full game by the way. If they are transitioning DRIVECLUB to a "service model", then they'll probably make the PS+ Edition, the basic F2P version that is free to download for everyone (with or without PS+).

Making the complete version available on PS+ when you want it to be a "game as a service", wouldn't make much sense. The percentage of people buying the expansions would have to be really high for such a model to be commercially successful.
