Guillermo del Toro confirms he will not be collaborating with Kojima on Silent Hills

Rarely do I ever make statements like this solely because broad statements sometimes include innocent people but just for venting sake, I need to.

Fuck you, Konami. You spineless swines can't even own up to your actions. This is an absolutely pathetic showing for such a big outfit and I hope the men responsible for all of this get theirs.

I'm not giving you another damn dime until the day I shuffle off this mortal coil.

...and THEN you'll give them money?

People often joke about companies shooting themselves in the foot. Its never been as applicable a cliche than right now. After MGS5, Konami has nothing. They're fucked.

And good riddance.

Wait where does it say that Silent Hills is cancelled? Am I missing something here?
It's canceled in the same way that there will be no new Metal Gear Solid games: without Kojima and his team, why bother? Do you really trust Konami to give it justice it deserves with their track record of botching not only other Silent Hill games, but all the other once good series they shopped out to the worst or ill-equipped developers?

Wondering how many people going "Fuck Konami" are going to be throwing money their way when MGS comes out. Regardless of whats happening this might be their big cash out on AAA titles.

Sure, Kojima's out... but the director and, correct me if I'm wrong here, the rest of the dev team is still there, right?

A lot of Kojima Productions higher ups are leaving too and seeing the B team at Koji Pro completely failed to make a serviceable Metal Gear Solid: Rising and had to be shopped out to Platinum to salvage does not bode well for their ability to handle something on their own, especially a Silent Hill game.

Don't look down on 2D horror games :p, some of my favourites released in the past few years are 2D and include:

Lone Survivor
The Cat Lady
Silence of the Sleep

The Cat Lady in particular is fantastic, it's a bit rough and uses an engine that probably wasn't the best choice for what the game wants to do, but it works and everything else is great. Silence of the Sleep is a bit similar but is a much smoother experience gameplay wise.
Lone Survivor is essentially 2D Silent Hill, 16 bit inspired graphics, but no chiptunes, the soundtrack is sublime actually.

I mean you get stuff like Home or The Last Door too, only really played Home, but that one was pretty nifty in its on way too and featured great sound design.

+1 for cat lady. loved that game.

Wish we had a list of the key people leaving the dev team in order to gauge the situation more accurately.

Don't forget they pulled this shit with Iga and Castlevania years ago.

It still hurts! I just typed up a butt-hurt Castlevania post then deleted it because it was a bit of a tangent :-/

To think these guys have produced so many games that aren't just good, but my very favorite of all-time EVER and then they do this?

Fuck Konami </bandwagon>

That was to be expected given recent developments, but it's still heartbreaking.

Fuck you, Konami.

I'm out of the loop on this one. Can someone bring me up to speed on the recent developments/chain of events? It seems that with del Torro & N Reedus on board they certainly had some enthusiastic talent ready to make something special. So what happened?

The overwhelming feeling is that, since TPP is a Kojima production, there's no reason to not support it. You shouldn't take out your anger on a the parent company by not buying the man's product. Moreover, he could well have bonuses and incentives in his contract that pay him extra based on reviews, sales, etc, whatever. It's everything after that people intend to avoid.

And no one cared :(. Now he works at a company that makes smartphone games because he has to provide for his family. And that fucking Comcept/Inafune tease shit led to nothing, :(.

I hope it comes back. Especially funny is how Konami didn't allow IGA to use the Castlevania name at all during a developer talk, so he had to use acronyms when talking about the games he worked on. They are legit the shittiest gaming company in Japan

+1 for cat lady. loved that game.

That brings the Cat Lady fanclub to 2 known people :lol

It would be pretty disheartening to have Kojima essentially stay at the company that is giving him the middle finger because he's doing the game for the fans and then those same fans not purchase his last Metal Gear game.

Not to mention it would justify Kojima's predicament in the eyes of Konami. I do want to play MGSV, and I'm sure this is going to be Kojima's magnum opus for a long time, so I want to play it as soon as possible.

I'm getting MGSV because it's Kojimas last one. After that I'm not getting any game in the series.

Kojima is Director, Producer, Writer and Game designer of MGS games. 4 most important positions that in other companies are occupied by several people. That is why people say MGS = Kojima. If similar situation is true for Silent Hills than it doesn't matter how many good artist, programmers, etc. is still there.

edit: heh, just checked wiki. Kojima is once again credited as Director, Producer, Writer and Game designer of P.T. So yep, Silent Hills = Kojima (and del Toro as an assistant director)

A few former Team Silent developers are/were at Kojima Productions. And if I'm not mistaken, some of them worked on P.T.

Konami president: "well it's time to restructure our video game development centers."

Staff : " so what should we do?"

Konami president: "fuck video games, cancel all projects and merge all production companies with our main offices."

Staff: "sir, what about metal gear solid 5? They just finished everything with the game but now are putting it together."

Konami president: " sigh, fine. Tell kojima and his team to have the game done and released by September 1st. Finished or not, we can patch it here internally at Konami. Also tell kojima and his team that they are now contracted workers and will be fired come December. Also let them know that silent hills is now cancelled as well, we will just begin to cancel it silently."

Staff: "very good sir."

This is my guess how it all happened.

Fuck Konami, from here till the end of time.

So extremely disappointed. I loved PT and was anxious to see what they'd do with Silent Hills...

I have since this morning. Worth a try

Sony scooping up Kojima is the only way this leads to a happy ending.

Imagine an E3 2016 trailer during the Sony conference of something new and awesome, with the last image being "A Hideo Kojima Game" while Kojima walks on-stage.

"Did you rike it?

Man just think about it, by far the greatest original gaming experience this gen just with a demo and all down the drain..I look forward to the day I can take piss on konami's corpse..

Hopefully Kojima still goes ahead with his own horror game.

Everyone jumps the gun too easily.... pfff...really...

Look, we don't know as of yet is Silent Hills has been cancelled, it's just an assumption. We have 2 possibilities : 1. Silent Hills is cancelled. 2. Silent Hills is being remade, but without the influence of Kojima this time around, finding new staffs, etc.

Guillermo said he won't be collaborating with Kojima, not that he was not working on the game anymore, right?

It's important to note del Toro was speaking only on collaborating with Kojima, not whether or not the game has been cancelled. "You'll have to go after Konami for those answers," our source said.

Norman Reedus did not gave more infos on his tweet. It was basically saying that he was sad to see (maybe Guillermo not collaborating with Kojima on the game anymore) or something similar to this line, but I don't think at all that Silent Hills would be cancelled just because of this : Konami would probably shoot themselves in the foot otherwise.

Update
via Dualshockers:

Last night at 8pm the Castro Theater in San Francisco hosted a Q&A with Guillermo del Toro where he gave the above statement. Ian Gibson, an assistant to Guillermo del Toro, retweeted Hackney’s tweet, and responded to two tweets regarding the Silent Hills project,

https://twitter.com/Ian_Gibson/status/592350637297250308

Additional confirmation comes by way of Remedios Varo from I09 who also attended the event in San Francisco. In the comments section of the article describing the night he confirmed the end of the Silent Hills partnership,

I don’t remember what [Guillermo del Toro] said verbatim, but it’s definitely not happening.
And then over on Twitter he posted this in response to a tweet,
