Guillermo del Toro confirms he will not be collaborating with Kojima on Silent Hills

We probably will never know, but I want to know what the fuck went wrong with Kojima and Konami. Seriously.

Remember that MGR2 logo in that PS4 reel? I kind of wonder if Kojima (Productions) smuggled that one in there in order to force Konami to greenlight the development of a sequel.

What will happen with regard to "SILENT HILL"?
Konami Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd. will continue to develop the "SILENT HILL" series.

Lazy Lazy Dodge. What will happen with SILENT HILLS is the question they know we want answering.

Honestly, I don't really care at this point. I'll never be buying another Konami product again, even if that means not playing MGSV. This entire debacle has been sickening and knowing the undoubtedly petty, absurd reasoning for it would only make it worse for me.
You don't care but won't buy MGSV? Intredasting. For all we know Kojima may not even be the good guy in all this. Who knows what he pulled.

Don't worry. Kojima will get Del Toro and Reedus back when he starts a new survival horror IP at his own game studio. And then we'll all forget Konami ever even existed.

First Twin Peaks and now this. 2015 has been a horrible year to be a horror/suspense fan.

Waited 25 years for Twin Peaks to come back ... gets canned. (Also, it's also been 10 years since Inland Empire)

That was bad enough.

then Silent Hills gets canned and... well...

It feels like they're just sitting on a money pile, though. People love their classic IPs and I'm confident they could make good money reviving them properly. Handing them off to random team across the globe lacking the experience in such games just doesn't work. The strength was in the design, not the brand itself. That's why they lost big on so many attempts at bringing these games back.

They really should just sell their IP and remove themselves from the gaming space. If they want to stick to pachinko, health clubs, and mobile junk they should at least make some cash in selling their unused IP as well.

In the case of Silent Hills though, I always felt it was a mistake. I've expressed the opinion that big budget horror is something that has gone the way of the dodo and shouldn't come back before. It's not a popular opinion among horror fans because I think people want to believe that something they like has a bright future in large expensive productions, but I disagree. Horror works best as an economical experience which can be made cheaply and marketed by word of mouth. This applies to both movies and games.

If you throw big budget expectations on a horror production in this day and age, the results will disappoint whoever is paying for it. Resident Evil moving away from horror an into action was a great decision for the mainstream future of the series. The Evil Within didn't set any charts on fire, and now Silent Hills is dead. No one should try making "big" horror games. It just isn't compatible with blockbuster mentality. You're more likely to have a huge hit with an indie style horror title, than if you poured millions of dollars and attached a Hollywood director and actor to it.

Can't some other publisher step in and take it over? Can't Sony?

Why would they? An IP they don't own, that they have no reassurances it'll sell well or even be good, for what? Selling systems they're already selling? Getting good will form Hardcore gamers, that they already have?
Nintendo needed Bayonetta 2, because after the Wii was popular with a more casual crowd, some gamers were skeptical of them, but Sony isn't in the same boat at all.

Silent Hill has been dead for a long time, any Silent Hill fan knows this (regardless of whether or not they liked the outsourced games) P.T. tricked us one last time in believing it wasn't, but now we're back at square one.
Put Silent Hill back in the attic where it was, and try not to get fooled again, by this company of clowns.

Inc some western take on Silent Hill that completely and utterly misses the point of the series

Maybe Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes could take a swing at it, chose between 6 annoying stereotypes, the asshole jock, the good final girl, the dumb slutty blond, the stoner, the token black guy and the nerd and venture into the town of Silent Hill!

Hype Rising for your game. Would play. Keep talking... :)

This is truth. The hype generated by P.T's word of mouth was worth a thousand high profile poster campaigns on the side of buses.

At this point heck I'd pay good money for a small team to take the ethic of P.T and elaborate on it. No Del Toro or Reedus. Just a hungry dev team looking to scare the pants out of the user and Kojima, for all his status and fame in the industry, spoke in interviews about his genuine enthusiasm for the brand and doing exactly this.

That's the real shame about this. Someone who cared about scaring the user - gone

I think you have a point because horror makes people feel bad in a way so it is more difficult to market than a game that makes them feel badass or joyful. However, Alien Isolation was quite sucessful, wasn't it? Big budget horror games are very risky, but I still think they can be worthwhile for the publishers.

I thought A:I sold very poorly. I remember it being $3 on a stream sale a couple weeks ago. Could be wrong though.

You have a point here but strip away the (probably not cheap) license, rounding up the original cast for the DLC etc and you'd still be left with a great game in spite of the Alien name being attached. Sure the name brought in sales from the Alien fanbase but I'm not convinced, once the word was out about the quality of the game, that it was cost effective versus just releasing the same game stripped out of Alien ties. Change the Alien design and call it 'Freaky monster on a Space Station' = more profit and I think the ultimate lifetime sales wouldn't have been that different.

Tacking on something like The Walking Dead name to the Walking Dead game is different - that I'd say is much more weighted to the value of the brand. Horror fans are different in that they aren't catered that well to at all

Even if P.T had been released on the store and the Kojima / Silent Hills names weren't attached, the hype would be real for a game based on that world / ethic. I'd love to know the budget of P.T as a curiouso, coupled with the cost of Reedus for the session

They said the demo will be removed from PSN. If I've already "bought" the Demo "P.T." can I download it anytime even after his removal or I absolutely need to have it on my PS4 to keep it?

Exactly this. It was pretty obvious this would all lead to a dead end, it was so over the top ambitious that it had to either get canned, underdeliver drastically, or be a massive loss of money, the kind that kills a producer. It was obviously all a publicity stunt.

Frankly, it's already a miracle that projects like Alien Isolation still exist.

Perhaps they did a shorter contract for the teaser, with an option to sign him for the full game if there is enough market interest?

In that case, this is probably why the teaser is being pulled.
Contract with Reedus ends and Konami doesn't have the right to use his face in P.T. for the moment

I'm really curious as to how this Kojima/Konami split happened. It seems pretty swift and complete. I hope this game isn't cancelled, it looked truly terrifying.

In the case of P.T, does it cost a company money to list 'free' items on the PSN store? As Sony get a cut of nothing for each download, perhaps Konami have to pay to keep it up. I have no idea how free content works.

It really is. They could at least have tried to word it elegantly, but it seems like their PR department has just given up.

Pretty much. Them referencing Silent Hill and not specifically Silent Hills feels incredibly cheap. Not even 'In relation to Silent Hills, we have no comment to make at this time but stay tuned'. Even THAT would be better than a wall of silence.

It's funny at this point because if it wasn't dead, surely they would want to promptly say "It's not dead'. So we can only assume it is. The PR teams paralysis is indicative of a company that is insane

I don't know if Sony still charges per GB downloaded now that they have a sub fee, but I think the bigger issue is making people want a dead project so they're stopping that.

I'm completely cool with Norman being out of the game. I never liked the fact that he was in it in the first place. So that's at least one benefit to this whole mess.

Thankfully I still had PT installed. This is such a mess. TBH It's worse than that shit that happened with Marty and Bungie

The lowest price for A:I on steam was about 12.49$. But PC games usually drop in price quite fast.
You were probably thinking of Aliens: Colonial Marines. That went for 2.99. Not even worth that little from what i hear.

Yeah that's valid for sure. I just figured it could potentially be quite expensive to keep up a free title unless some deal was in place.

Well the evil within actually did very very well but it's fundamentally an action game, not a horror game. I think Bethesda was probably thrilled with how it performed.

Silent hill 5 and 6 performed like dead bodies.

Very sad news to me.... i am glad i still have PT on my ps4... since its going offline this weds.

Man was i excited for this new project.

what? no not me

but you guys can

Tell us what we should do?

-Tweet PlayStation Exec & Third Party Relations to work with Kojima and Co. to develop a spiritual successor ala Bloodborne.

-Make a Petition to either revive P.T Property/Silent Hills.

-Stop buying from Konami to show who is boss here.

I like the first one or the latter. What should we try?

Anyway to get PT aside from the store? I never got around to downloading it.

I just downloaded it from the store. I don't think it's being removed until Wednesday.

Fuck Konami. Silent Hill is my favorite game franchise, and it seems like it may go the way of Mega Man. They no longer exist to me after MGS5 is out. Hopefully someone makes a spiritual successor.

Do we know anything about what time P.T. is gone from the PSN store? I'd be so pissed if i buy a PS4 tomorrow and it's not there anymore.

Probably after store update - 29.04 1pm - 5pm GMT.
I think if you get demo (now) via web store, you can keep it forever on your download list / library?

Konami helping Sony sell them PS4's lol.

P.T will be available until Wednesday, April 29. So if you buy it tomorrow you will still get to download it.

You can add it to your download list on the web store.

Doubt if they remove it you will be able to download it of your list, just like other content that has been removed.
