Post holidays to date, Sony must have went on a money hatting spree. The timing was good since MS had to have still been reeling from the firesales and efforts to clear out the channel stuffing.

Hopefully not. Really shady to pay publishers to remove content from XB1 / PC versions of multiplatform games, just to make the PS4 look artificially more appealing.

I'd prefer that moneyhatting to be spent more on published games and expanding 1st party studios. It seems like they're spending money on both though which is good.

Not good for consumers on XB1 / PC if that means content on multiplatform games gets removed.

It would make more sense for them to try expand their first-party marketshare indeed in my humble opinion.

So when thuway lied to us, he will be banned, or not ?
He's been banned a couple of times in the past because of bad info and has gotten much quieter as of late. He's clearly learned his lesson. I've spoken with him candidly several times in the and don't believe he ever intended to mislead anyone, just excited and enthusiastic about things he's heard. He's become far more cautious about what he shares and who he trusts.

Yeah but it's easier to cut a check and let other people do the work.

I do wonder what the hold up is, they were saying how the PS4 would make development easier but so far it doesn't seem that way.

Hold up to what? All of their studios delivered games in 2012, 2013, 2014. Games take time to make.

Are you familiar with the term: "Sony Cycle"? Sony historically stalls the first few years in terms of first party output in the first few years. It wasn't until E3 2009 that we saw the first "true" potential of PS3's first party studios. I imagine it'll be similar this gen.

Sounds like a bunch of nonsense in my humble opinion.

PS Vita had 5 big first-party games in its first year or something?

All of this speculation is giving me the E3 hype flutters.

I would love to see Sony's E3 in theaters again, was great fun last time.

Do we know if that is in the cards this year?

I'm going to lol when Level-5's game is eventually shown. The reactions should be hilarious to read.
This sounds like a potential disaster. Here I am expecting a possible NNK2 and if we get some bullshit, this might ruin the whole event for me.

What I meant was I expect good GAF reactions, not that that I'm going to laugh at you. I can laugh about good things too. Laughter is usually a positive thing.

Do you think they'd debut a game at E3, and it'd just be something no one wanted? Would something like that really happen? Is that possible?
Verendus you better not be trolling

No I'm with you. Timed DLC/etc is a horrible virus that I wish would go away but never will..

If you're looking at it from the point of the view of the publisher and game producers, it's pretty much equivalent.

Cutting checks and letting internal or external development studios make the game is how it works for first-party games as well.

Does Level-5 actually make good games anymore

Ni No Kuni seemed like a weird accident that it turned out decent and also on a HD platform and wasnt just some forgettable "ok" DS or phone game.

There's somehow this misperception that easier development = shorter dev cycle.

Big AAA games is still going to take as long, if not longer than last gen dev cycles because everything's prettier and bigger now.

Most of the guesses for the big three have already been made, and I agree with some of them, so I'll leave those alone. I'll just stick with some 3rd party guesses, instead!

Capcom

I think this upcoming E3 (and TGS, too, for that matter) will be special ones for Capcom fans. Not only will we definitely see more of the likes of SFV, but I think that RE:Rev2 and DCM4SE were just nice precursors to the inevitable RE7 and DMC5 announcements/teasers. We've had reason to believe that they're both on the way anyway, and I believe the hype trains will start now and will carry over into next year, when they're slated to actually release.

While I would love confirmation that Monster Hunter Stories for 3DS is getting a western release sooner, I wouldn't expect it just yet. Suffice to say, though, I think this spinoff getting a 3DS release should be a sign that Capcom is just fine keeping the brand where it is, for now.

Otherwise, I'd expect to see more in the vein of Capcom showing value of their "midtier" franchises, again. Maybe even Megaman (X) is due for a reappearance/rebirth of some kind. Cries of "Capgod redeemed" ensue after a solid showing.

Yeah, spending on both is the right move, although 3rd party deals seem to have better bang for the buck in terms of driving consumer interest these days. It's getting harder and harder to compete against the big pubs in budgets for AAA games.

Hopefully not. Really shady to pay publishers to remove content from XB1 / PC versions of multiplatform games, just to make the PS4 look artificially more appealing.

We know the hats are coming according to Gopher, but maybe they'll be deals like SFV was, which I think was palatable for most gamers interested in the title.

Good to see Phil is on top form on Twitter. He's really looking after the fans, and making himself available to everyone. I'm looking forward to seeing his team secure some big third party exclusives like Mirror's Edge, Prince of Persia, and Grand Theft Auto. You have to do something worthwhile with that budget rather than just swim around naked in it.

I believe in him. I believe in what he stands for.

Ooh, you tease.

You say "again" which means you believe they have been lazy before. Their current strategy is very successful so why wouldn't they continue their very successful strategy?

Because they haven't released a game as big as Halo yet so they automatically lose list wars!

I think they've still got good stuff in them, but they need to get back to proper real-time combat (as seen in Dark Cloud/Rogue Galaxy) and proper level design, not like the bland shit seen in Dark Cloud or even the dull environments from White Knight Chronicles.

Phil has a tough job. The day star ocean 5 was announced his twitter was bombarded with xbox user demanding he get the game on their system. Social media can be rough sometimes

I wonder how much it would cost to moneyhat GTA again. Or lets say.. Red Dead 3.

$50 million the last time was kind of a special case because it was also done when Take 2 was on the ropes financially and the EA vulture was circling it.

Then again MS spend 2 billion buying Minecraft and a few hundred million buying Gears. Money aint no thing if the name is big enough.

If I were in his position I'd probably get an underling to handle my Twitter account, because he must have to filter through so much shite. Same for Yoshida etc. I guess that none of the Nintendo execs use Twitter in the same way.

This E3 is his to win. Two Rare IPs (Battletoads and something else), Scalebound gameplay, Rise of the Tomb Raider reveal, Halo 5, Forza 6, Crackdown 3, Gears Remaster unveil, and a Gears 4 unveil. That's every MAJOR first party franchise MS has plus some topping. It is literally is the perfect storm. It's like a dream E3 list for a Xbox fan come to life. On top of that, I am pretty sure they'll have some smaller games and some other suprises. You don't get the honor to host a conference like this, except once or twice a decade.

I am a Sony fan, but I am stupidly excited to see what Xbox has to show this year because there is potential for best Xbox conference ever about to happen.

It could definitely be their E3 to lose. But in my opinion... if sony brings it with Project Morpheus. They'll likely steal the show.... which is why Microsoft will have to come hard this year. I suspect sony has some stuff up their sleeve as well. But if Nintendo announces anything Metroid they win in my book..... unless its not due out until 2018..... lol

yeah but xbox is basically nonexistent in gamescom and tgs, not to mention they don't have ninty directs or psx.

Morpheus is exactly what will lose E3 for Sony. I'm excited about it, and will buy it day 1, but it has the potential to be Wonderbook 2.0 in terms of presentation. Keep it short, succint, and a book end- not a cornerstone.

On the other hand, I agree Sony has a lot of unknowns in the pipeline. So far the first party studios have been relatively quiet. Guerilla Games, Polyphony, Bend Studio (why do all of you forget this, the clues are everywhere), Media Molecule (outside Tearaway), Team ICO, and Studio Japan - are all working hard, but will they show up?

Sony hosts one too many conferences for all the players to unite at one show. I feel they will most likely have Bend, David Cage, and Guerilla show up. The rest will be second party exclusives, third party content/DLC, and smaller but brilliant titles.

I agree. North America is MS's main cash cow and it is in their best interest to front load this E3 because expectations are sky high.

I will forever remember that Thuway was one of the few who said that PS4 multiplayer will be behind a paywall before E3 2013. People were flipping their stuff (including me), and he was getting a lot of heat.

Turns out he was right.

Morpheus is not a show steal-er, if the show is E3 imo. To win, Sony needs to cater to the hardcore and the casuals. How?

Hardcore fans: Fund the heck out of Japanese titles from Capcom/Japanese devs and bring us more Bloodborne DLC/From Souls titles. Bonus points if they start their own fighting game franchise with capcom.

Casual: I feel like they are golden for this since Boyes is a boss, but, get exclusive rights for the big third party titles like COD, BF, MGSV, Batman and Fallout.

I dont expect a fighting game collaboration with capcom. I do see some ps characters added to the mix in street fighter 5 ie kratos delsin fetch and or cole McGrath

I think you'll see Bloodborne, Capcom, Level 5, Square Enix, Namco Bandai, and Trolljima in some capacity.

The factor I'm totally up in the air about is what is Sony's first party up to. They are relatively quiet and we all know the army of developers aren't exactly sitting down and doing nothing.

Its a mainline street fighter game. I think it would be in bad taste if they put a character in like that. Also the game is on PC too and there is inter connectivity.

Their track record first party wise has been a little disappointing in regards to the critical response. Whatever they, I hope they are evaluating why their games have been bit hit and miss these days.

With that said, I would be upset if they don't show at least 2 high profile titles from their big WWS devs. I am talking main teams of GG and MM. They can fill the rest of the announcements with second party titles and TLG. Also, even though it would upset the fans, I would rather Uncharted skip this E3, and have ND focus all their efforts on the game. Seeing a gorgeous game demo-ed, and not being able to play it for almost a year will crush me.

Its kind of weird not seeing any leaks yet. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Project Beast begin to surface about this time last year?
