All movie trailers are the same

Hey,

My favorite trailers are the ones that have zero dialogue, but just imagery, maybe one or two lines here or there.. Does anyone have a cool example of the less is so much more trailer? I feel Like I have not seen one in a long time.

Something like "The Signal" That was a dope trailer...........Man I had goosebumps the first time I saw that trailer.

Even with the overuse of the Inception horn, I'll take a modern trailer over an old "IN A WORLD..." trailer any day. I mean have you guys watched old '90s trailers recently? They're almost universally terrible. And they just get worse and worse the further back you go.

Rather interesting to compare modern blockbuster trailers with those of the past.

Taking this trailer for Lawrence of Arabia for example; it's rather unhurried, uses music entirely from the original score and lacks the flashiness of modern trailers and is all the better for it.

Although, at almost five minutes long, it's more of an extended preview than a trailer, but then its length is certainly fitting for a masterpiece of film.

Applying modern day trailer methodology to a film like Lawrence yields the following trailer for its 4K release:

Not too bad really.

Not sure "salty" applies here. But I always liked her penetrating gaze.

So soulful.

so DEEP.

You just seemed unnecessarily upset at RLM in that comment. I don't think they pitched that video as "deep realizations of cinematic convention" more so than just poking fun at modern trailers

I can't wait for the RLM video that explains why they show trailers for action movies in front of action movies. That sinful Hollywood machine.

I'd say this post is another example of someone taking the RLM video a little too seriously

"You ever notice that ads for movies start with a city, and then there's loud noises for emphasis, and then after showing you some action scenes, there's a quiet, serious moment, and then something really loud, and then the title happens?"

I can't wait for the RLM video that points out how there are action movie trailers in front of action movies. That sinful Hollywood machine.

hey check out my slowed down cover of a famous pop song in this trailer

I still love the version of Creep in the The Social Network trailer though

"You ever notice how pop-songs all have a similar structure? There's a verse, and then a chorus, and then a verse, and then a bridge, and then sometimes a chorus or a verse?"

"You ever notice that in cop shows, there's usually a crime, and then the title sequence, and then there's like, five segments, separated by commercials, that shows how the cops solved the crime? And usually around segment 4 or 5, there's like, a little twist in there?"

You realize that these are things people seriously bitch about too, right?

I agree that it's a joke, but the people who are saying it's going to get posted like serious evidence repeatedly for the next few years are right too.

I'm not upset at all, any more than the RLM guys are "upset" in their video.

Dunno how you're reading "upset" into that post at all.

Because you're reacting to the video as if they're some kind of pretentiousness to it

Edit - that's just how i'm perceiving it, if you disagree then that's 100% cool

Alien is the example I've always seen pop up. Really great trailer. And funnily enough uses both the BWAAAM and the cut to silence.

I don't know...I get really irritated every time I hear the SHIIIIOOOOP base noise after someone says something deep, then cut to reaction-face.

just pretend the person making the reaction face let out a massive fart, and the SHIIIIOOOOP base noise is the sound of the fart. Now you're no longer irritated by it and now can find it funny!

Why's that inherently bad, necessarily? Trailers have 2 minutes to sell you on a concept, a couple piano notes is more efficient than overbearing, maudlin strings.

It is not always inherently bad, sometimes it can work well in the right context. But other times it makes me roll my eyes when a trailer tries to pull on audiences heart strings or their sense of nostalgia by playing a few recognisable notes through a piano.

They can goof on the obvious patterns/practices in action movie advertising.
I can't goof on how obvious that criticism is.

They don't have to be upset to do the former, I don't have to be upset to do the latter.

Unless you're simultaneously imagining both me and Stoklasa, at home, on the couch with a beer, griping to our significant others about how ANGRY these obvious things make us.

It does bring an entertaining mental picture to my head

I get your point though, i guess its one of those "sarcasm/emotion doesn't always translate through text" things for me

I used to use smileys but motherfuckers constantly gave me shit for it.

If at any point you're unsure as to whether or not I'm just being a smartass, look at the idiot in bright pink sunglasses smirking just to the left of my posts, and chances are its safe to err on the side of "smartass."
