since i don't think we're gonna get firmer dates on SC or corpse party today, i'm just stopping in to ask:

i know the answer is "the day before never" but if falcom stuff keeps coming out on steam I'll keep buying it

And don't forget the soundtrack toggle for both PC-X8 *AND* (especially!!) FM Towns!

Hoping we'll have official Estival Versus announcement for this year too. Probably going to double dip on Oneechanbara, game is fun though fairly short.

Need some tits sc, even though I didn't love the first game. I wish to support anyone tackling this translationmonster.

I also need Blood Covered and Xanadu. What's Brandish like?

I honestly rank this game's (*AND* the FM Towns version) soundtrack among Falcom's top 10 soundtracks of all time. Dinosaur Resurrection in particular deserves special mention since pretty much every single arrangement in it is really impressive. Like... seriously, there's not a single track that I don't enjoy - the Sound Team jdk members who arranged it clearly respected the source material and the intentions of Dinosaur's composers for the most part, exceptions like "The Tower of Ordeals" (now sounds like a trance anthem) and "Dinosaur" (FM rock turned into a militaristic anthem) aside.

The Lost Ones
Charge!
Into the Castle
Burning!
The Tower of Ordeals
The Tower of the Wind
The Tower of Darius
The Mascle Man
The Tower of Spirits
Wind Emblem

The FM Towns soundtrack is also pretty damn amazing. I can't seriously choose between the two of them. Give me selectable soundtracks, XSEED! :<

*Still* need to get my "definitive" Dinosaur FM Towns music RIP up. :<<

What's Brandish like?

No Estival Versus :(
Chill, there is still E3 coming up for more stuff to be announced :)
So far I have Senran Kagura 2 and Onechanbara.
Will probably wait on Lord of Magna. So many localizations, much appreciated. Are there unannounced games to be released this year?

One of the best damned dungeon-crawlers you'll ever play, that's what. ;) It's not for everyone, but it's a really tightly designed experience from beginning to end, with great atmosphere, great music and really clever level designs with simple but fun puzzles and a lot of personality.

If you don't mind your action RPGs being a little more leisurely paced than Ys and enjoy exploring dungeons, I highly recommend giving it a shot.

We disagree on a lot of things, but most certainly not on this. Dinosaur: Resurrection's soundtrack is one of my most listened-to in my entire Falcom collection. I absolutely love it, and easily consider it one of their best as well. Though you're missing two of my favorite tracks:

- Paean to the Spirits, which has become one of my favorite forest themes of all time period
- When Grieving Ends, the Fight Begins, which is almost as good a battle theme as "Charge!"

I also quite like Resurrection version of Tower of Ordeals, though I agree on Dinosaur.

Oh, for sure. We wouldn't leave you guys hanging for THAT long. ;)

Xanadu Next isn't even that great imo. It already has a translation patch anyway. More Falcom untranslated goodness please

Tom, wish you guys are able to bug people to bring Trails to the Hong Kong/Singapore PSN store though. We English-speaking Asian gamers always miss out due to licensing and stuff D=

what?

I played it a while back and I found it to be fantastic. It's not Ys but it's still great.

I also need Tokyo Xanadu whenever that drops. :p

No maybe about it! It's coming for sure. Slated for this summer.

Fuuuck, I haven't made time for a proper replay of either my PSP copy or the Steam version yet of the original! I wanted to have a file ready one either platform to do the proper carry-over stuff too. I kept pushing this replay off because I never expected the game to be released any time soon, ha! Shit crept up on me!

I've got too much on my plate. I'm also still in the middle of a Xenoblade replay so I could feel comfortable enough for X when it presumably releases this year as well. Can't keep up with this shit!

I have been pleasantly surprised with the XSEED games I have played on my VITA/PS4 this past year or so. Non have been revolutionary or graphic beats, but they are simply fun to play.

With golden week I grabbed Akiba'Strip for $20ish on PS4. I thought it might be mindless fun at least, and I am pretty happy so far. The story is stupid, but in a way that it doesn't take itself seriously and production is more than half ass like some Japanese games that use similar art. The world is not huge, but it is interesting and has a lot of extra details to make it kind of special.

Crap, I totally forgot about picking up Akiba's Trip on the PS4. Best Buy never stocked it (booooo) and then I guess I brain farted on the Golden Week sale.

Yo, don't be talking about my #1 favorite Falcom game like that! Xanadu Next is the business.

It’s awesome, man.
At any rate, Xanadu Next is coming. It leaked months ago.

Ah, I forgot about the leak. I wonder if they are using BoF's fan translation? Hopefully that would lead to Zwei and Dinosaur.

I just never understood the almost unanimous praise/hype I've seen. I think it's quite average. Plus, the soundtrack is pretty weak for a Falcom game :)

I paid good money for this Dynex!
Xanadu Next is probably my most anticipated game from XSEED at this point. I have yet to play Trails in the Sky FC (though I do have it), so maybe that's why I'm not terribly interested in SC yet.

when you finish FC, you'll get why we're going crazy about the game finally coming out.

Now you're just trolling, aren't you? ;) Xanadu Next has another of my favorite Falcom soundtracks, joining the ranks of Dinosaur: Resurrection, Ys: The Oath in Felghana, Nayuta no Kiseki, Zwei!! and VM Japan. It's probably in my top five favorite Falcom soundtracks of all time, in fact -- I'd even pick it over Felghana if push comes to shove.

To each their own, I suppose!

I had no idea what Lord of Magna is and Google tells me it has VC-like gameplay. Is that statement actually true? (It also seems like it would be harem, but I can probably overlook that if gameplay is solid.)

Sort of. It's a straight-up tactical RPG, but instead of being grid-based like most classics of the genre, it's free-roaming and uses a simple physics engine to allow for some pretty cool knockback collision -- so if you hit an enemy really hard and other enemies are lined up behind it, you'll basically knock them all over like bowling pins. It's pretty satisfying, and the colorful graphics, cute 2D character animations and absolutely STELLAR soundtrack (seriously, the game's soundtrack is waaaaay better than you'd expect, apparently having been inspired by Falcom games and Bravely Default) really add a lot to the game's flavor.

The story is very harem-y in many ways, but it doesn't really play out like you'd expect a harem story to. There are a lot of girls and only one guy in the playable party, but contrary to expectations, not all the girls fall in love with and fight over that one guy -- many of them (most, even) are just there to do a job, and consider Luchs to be nothing more than a good friend. And unlike most harem protagonists, Luchs actually has a personality -- and a good one! -- and manages to be a very well-developed and overall highly likable character.

It's a simple game, but a charming one. I'd say don't go into it expecting deeply layered combat systems or a story unlike anything you've ever seen before, but similarly, you shouldn't go into it expecting an ecchi harem anime either. What it is is a modest but highly polished tactical RPG with a classic but well-told JRPG story behind it, and as long as you go into it expecting that, I'm pretty sure you'll be very happy with your purchase.

EDIT: Ah, we've got a new blog entry from Brittany that should help explain a little bit more, too -- with lots of screenshots!
