XSEED for 2015

Is Akiba Strip any good? I've been thinking of picking it up. Will definitely pick up Onechanbara since I enjoyed* the Wii version.

*I enjoyed it, but that shouldn't speak for its quality.

There's not many traditional RPGs for them to localize that haven't already been taken by other publishers, really. They're doing Sen no Kiseki, so hopefully they can get that and Sen II out before Falcom releases the next one (wishful thinking).

Considering Falcom doesn't go more than a year or 2 between Kiseki releases, there is no chance that Xseed will be done with both Sens, let alone the 1st, by the time Falcom comes out with their next. I highly doubt they have much manpower going into Sen to begin with, considering so much of their effort is focused on SC. There's also the problem of getting a port going for it (whether it's Falcom helping or otherwise), because releasing a major game like Sen on 2 dead/dying systems isn't going to go over well.

Well, XSEED didn't do the translation for Trails SC so they could've been working on the first Sen for a while now. I agree that it's very unlikely they'd get both of them out before the next one, though.

Is Akiba Strip any good? I've been thinking of picking it up.

It's very divisive. There are many people on here who absolutely hate it, but conversely, we at XSEED chose to localize the game because we unanimously LOVED it during evaluation. It was a joy to localize, too, and has what I'd consider to be our best dub of all time (with the option to play with Japanese voices too, should you not like it).

The gameplay is what most people who dislike it harp on, and it's certainly not as "deep" as other beat-em-ups... but IMHO, it doesn't need to be. The fun of the game is that every single weapon controls totally differently, and there are like, over 80 equippable weapons. So whenever I saw the slightest hint that combat was starting to get stale, I'd just switch weapons, and suddenly, it was like I was playing a whole other game! The differences between the weapons are drastic, and it's incredibly fun trying to collect them all and seeing how they behave.

I absolutely adored the game from beginning to end -- I had a lot of fun playing it, and the writing legitimately had me LOLing more than any other game I've played in years. I honestly rank it as one of my favorite games of 2015. It's absolutely worth a look IMHO, but I can't guarantee it's something you'll enjoy as much as I did.

Will definitely pick up Onechanbara since I enjoyed* the Wii version.

Note that the series has improved DRASTICALLY since then. It's most definitely not the same game at all!

I would be thrilled if we could work on IA, and will be personally pulling for it. But that game seems like a licensing nightmare, so I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you -- the chances of us localizing something that has THAT MANY COPYRIGHTS attached to it are honestly pretty slim. I'd feel totally safe importing, personally (and in fact have my preorder in for it already, along with PopoloCrois Bokujo! Both of which I'm sure I could get through our parent company, but I'm not about to NOT throw my money at these titles, since they're both among my most anticipated games of the year!). ;)

-Tom

Kay, then. It's a little disheartening, but at least the Vita is region free. I'll be importing it for sure (alongside Taiko). Thanks for the info! :)

Looking really great. This is going to be a great year. Thanks a lot XSEED. :)

I'm suffering severe Trails withdrawal.
Onechanbara I will pick up when I get a PS4 in the far future. I wish it was coming to Steam... but that's not XSEED's call. :(
Senran Kagura 2 I didn't really like, but I know they've got my back with Estival Versus.
Akiba's Trip? If it's confirmed the port runs fine I'm in there.
Corpse Party? First time hearing of this game. I'll see what the reviews say and check out more stuff when it releases.

Super excited about Akiba's Trip coming to PC. For a second I got even more excited because I read "PS4" as "PC" for Onechanbara. Oh, well.

I still need to get TitS.

Thanks for translating the game and keeping it hilarious. Pitter is like perfect. Perfect!
I dont play games like this usually but the humor has kept me going.

Feel like throwing a teaser like you're on a 3DS game that no one even knows exists yet?

Actually, how often, if ever, do you guys work on a game that hasn't even been unveiled in Japan yet?

What's IA? Serious question.

IA/VT colorful is a rhythm game with a newer vocaloid.

It's happened (Orgarhythm comes to mind), but it's very, very rare. Most likely to occur with our parent company if it happens at all.

What's IA? Serious question.

Rhythm game from Takaki-san (the Half-Minute Hero and Senran Kagura guy) that stars the Vocaloid IA. Think Hatsune Miku: Project Diva, but with a little Gitaroo Man mixed in. It looks amazing.

I cannot help but smile knowing that XSEED at least is looking at IA.

Anything from Falcom and the Corpse Party games I will definitely buy, also still waiting for Story of Seasons 3DS for Pal. Lord of Magna looks interesting as well from the Rune Factory people. Just got Ys Ark of Napishtim on Steam and loving it, and can't wait for Legend of Heroes SC.

Oh man I'm so sad that there's no Vita love so far. First time in a long time that I don't have an XSEED game to look forward to :(

What about Trails in the Sky: SC? It's a PSP game but technically you can play it on your Vita ;)

I know I'll definitely pick it up once I've finished the first game :D

Akiba's Trip is one of my favourite games from last year and is also one of the only games I've ever double dipped on (Vita and PS4 versions.) It's incredibly entertaining to play and is much more about humour than fanservice, which very much downplayed compared to something like Senran Kagura. Of course it isn't perfect, but that doesn't stop if from being damn fun to play!

I'll be double Day 1 purchasing Trails SC (PSN & Steam) along with Blood Drive and Cold Steel whenever they materialize.

Blood Drive is worth the wait. Amazing capper on the first trilogy of Corpse Party titles.

Save your money. It's mediocre in pretty much every category.

I'm only personnally interested in TitS SC, but I'm glad XSeed is still fighting the good fight localizing niche titles.

I'm crossing my fingers for more Falcom announcements: the rumored Xanadu Next and Sen no Kiseki localizations, as well as announcements for Ys 8 and Tokyo Xanadu!

Great work as usual. Mainly on-board for the Falcom/Acquire games, but there's always room for surprises. Xanadu Next releasing this winter holiday season would be smart for everyone involved, partially because the Tokyo Xanadu hype is real.

I appreciate the openness about the situation, I guess I'll have to import IA. The only thing that holds me back is potential DLC that I wouldn't be able to ever get or use. I kind of expected that the game would have a better chance of coming here since Marvelous seemed to be pushing into the west a bit more and Project Diva F even saw a retail release here. I'll also get SK2, SC and Onechanbara and just bought Akiba's Trip and the "new" Ys. So much XSEED goodness :D

Personally I enjoyed Akiba's Trip very much. It's full of goofy charm and offers a fun (if slightly janky) experience for everyone, which is a lot more than other similar types of games can say.

If you want a nice breezy beat em up with some enjoyable customization and an addicting combo system, I'd say give it a shot.

Rest should be like this:

Senran Kagura Estival Versus (Summer 2015)
Corpse Party Blood Drive (Fall 2015)
PopoloCrois Harvest Moon (Fall 2015)
Legend of Heroes Trails in Cold steel (Winter 2015)
IA/VT (Winter 2015)
Metropolis Defenders (winter 2015, if aksys skips this)
Luminous Arc Infinity (early 2016)
Tokyo Xanadu (Early 2016)
Valkyrie Drive: Bikhuni (early 2016)

Yay! Vita lives!

since i don't think we're gonna get firmer dates on SC or corpse party today, i'm just stopping in to ask:

i know the answer is "the day before never" but if falcom stuff keeps coming out on steam I'll keep buying it

Oh yes. Very "badass". Such empowering. *eye roll*

(Come on, I don't care if people like these games for whatever their reasons, but let's stop pretending that they're something they're not, please.)

Are you honestly prepared to judge an entire game based on a single item of DLC? Play it for yourself, and see what you think then -- you'd be very, very surprised, I believe.

Yes, the banana and strawberry DLC is pure cheesecake. But is that representative of the game as a whole? Absolutely not. The game is all about a team of in-your-face women, led by an absolute badass military woman, who are saving the world from a zombie invasion by teaming up despite their differences and kicking serious ass with chainsaws, swords and bare knuckles. It's bloody and it's over-the-top, but there isn't a single moment in the entire game where these women aren't in total control of their destinies. Unlike Senran Kagura, there's a definite sense that the camera focuses on their "assets" only when they WANT it to -- and at all other times, the camera is focused squarely on zombies exploding into blood and gore, which they happily bathe in because they're just THAT BADASS.

It's absolutely a female power fantasy first and foremost. Watch any cutscene, or even listen to the theme song, and what you'll get out of it is "don't mess with these women or they will MESS YOU UP."

And no amount of cheesecake DLC can change that. Maybe it could if it seemed like you were forcing them to wear it... but based on their personalities, there's no doubt in my mind that if these girls were real, they'd totally wear nothing but strawberries and a banana, and they wouldn't be the slightest bit embarrassed by it. They'd just be like, "You know what? This is a good look on me. I am one SEXY beast!" ;)

It's the confidence, more than anything, that I think really sells it. You never see these girls looking embarrassed, or bashful, or like they're being taken advantage of in the slightest. They will wear anything, face any foe and climb any mountain without the slightest hesitation. Ain't nobody gonna make them do anything they don't want to!
