We're just 2 short days away from the sequel to one of my fave 4X strategy titles of all time! Also a 4X franchise with what has probably been the BEST AI in the biz.

I've been playing the preview builds off and on, and man, the game has relaly come a long way. It's beautiful, it's challenging, it's addicting, and the UI has been considerbaly streamlined form Gal Civ II.

I know we've all got Witcher fever (I do too), but this game is right up there for me as well!

Anyone else looking forward to it? Is an OT planned?

4X player but I've never played a Gal Civ game before. Always wanted to get into it, however. Definitely excited for this release, hopefully an OT is planned so that newcomers like me can ease into it with the community :)

HELLLLLL yes!

Was thinking about whipping up an OT (last I checked it was unclaimed), but sadly, I'm super lazy. I'll do it if nobody else steps up. Been playing through the beta, It's a ton of fun, and I'm hugely looking forward to the campaign; been a while since I played a strategy game with a proper story.

Quill18 has some great footage of a live playthrough of the release version on hsi channel on youtube.

Would definitley recommend if you're new to the series:

I'm loving the new synergy mechanic when building on planets. Really adds a nice new way to specialize.

It adds a whole new dimension to colony building. Figuring out where you need to place things in addition to what you want to place changes things dramatically, especially with whole new type of buildings, like the Antimatter Power Plant, that exist to improve the surrounding stuff.

Yeah, I'm kind of hype for the game, even though my gaming time has been inconsistent lately. I'm honestly hoping for some major mods to the game down the line.

Looking forward to giving it a shot again. I played it really early in alpha but at that stage it wasn't really playable.

Yeah, it's been sat in my Steam library while I've been waiting for it to hit the official release, I messed about with it a bit over the past few months and it's looking pretty nice now. Will be starting to play it properly in a few days time, then getting waylaid by Witcher 3 no doubt.

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...
Didn't realize we were aso close. I bought it but was waiting for release.

I bought it too, checked out the Beta and quickly jumped out again, because most systems werent integrated yet. Cant wait to give it another try.

I'm super hyped for it. Didn't realize it was coming this week though. Looks like my weekend plans are set.

I loved Galciv 2, but after Demigod and all the various iterations of Elemental there's no way I could risk another day 1 purchase from Stardock. Elemental never got to the point where it was actually fun, and I've never seen a game launch so bugged and flawed.

Been playing Early Access. It's got that 4x GalCiv goodness. Plus this:
As a bonus to all of our Founders, Early Access players, and early launch weekend adopters, we’re giving away a free pack of unique ship parts to use in customizing your starships.

The Launch Weekend Ship Parts DLC is not and never will be for sale, and will be automatically added to your Steam account when it becomes available on launch day, May 14.

Everyone who has already bought Galactic Civilizations III, or who purchases through May 17, will receive the ship parts as a token of Stardock’s appreciation.

I'm sorry... what?

I lost a lot of my life to GC2. You're telling me that GC3 is coming out? I've never even heard of this. What on earth? Is this a lie? My heart is racing.

Will it run on my mid-2012 Macbook Air?

I am a little 4x'd out, I will have to check out some streams to get some hype. I have never played a GalCiv before. I bought that Sid Mieier Star Ships game and was pretty bummed about that.

I've had the early access to the game for a very long time now, I think it's over a year at this point. I didn't even know it was releasing soon. Thanks for the reminder.

I've owned since it was announced :)

The only thing is I barely have time to play anything anymore. Maybe this summer I'll get to enjoy it.

Someone gifted this to me on Steam, but I've held off playing it until the final release. I really don't enjoy beta testing 4X games.

I have also never played a GalCiv game myself (the last space 4X I put hours into was Star Trek: Birth of the Federation), so I'm pretty curious as to how this plays.

Woot! I'm finding the ship designer to be one of my favorite part sof this game. Can't wait to start seeing the inevetable mods for it with Star wars and Star Trek and Firefly ship parts ;)

I bought early access as soon as it was available and I haven't played it in many months. I hear it's a lot more complete, I guess it's time to sit down and play it properly.

I never played the series before, but I just got done downloading it a few hours ago. Definitely looking forward to starting tomorrow.

Hmm... I'm going to hold off buying the game until I know exactly what's in that Launch Weekend Ship Parts DLC pack. If the parts are super cool, I might buy it at launch. If not, I might wait for a big sale.

Reviews are trickling in:

Rock paper shot gun has it's Wot I think: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/05/14/wot-i-think-galactic-civilizations-iii/

Game Watcher (9.0): http://www.gamewatcher.com/reviews/galactic-civilizations-iii-review/12232

Rather positive reactions so far. RPS mentions big maps tend to have balance issues as you expand, I know the devs have mentioned that some of the first free ocntent will be about fixing these issues on the largest maps.

I usually don't play on the gigantic ones though.

Stardock generally has balance problems with giant maps in its 4x games. It's a shame cause I love playing gigantic maps in 4x games. Hard to believe it's relasing today.

Side note, anyone going to make an OT?

Been waiting for a sale, didn't realize it was so close to leaving early access :/

Maybe I shoulda got it when it was $25 during the winter sale instead of Endless Legend, though EL is quite good as well. Dunno if I can really afford it right now at $50, but that exclusive DLC, anyone know if it's really worth it?

I ended up buying it last night after watching Quill18's videos. Played it for a bit and really like it so far. It has a lot more depth than the 4x's I have been playing recently.

Wish I could get hyped for it, but after playing Distant Worlds, it is pretty hard to play any other 4x space game. Distant Worlds gameplay with improved graphics would be HNGGGGGGGGG!

Mengy

wishes it were bannable to say mean things about Marvel
So apparently this is out in full today? Kind of snuck up.

Yeah, holy crap I had no idea GC3 was launching today. I don't have time to play it right now, but I've spent hundreds of hours with GC2 and I will buy GC3 at some point, I just can't find the time to play it now anyway so I think I'm gonna hold off for a month or so.

OR, I'll buy it tonight and check it out.

Damnit.

This game has a LOT of depth and difficulty, the AI is pretty brutal as well.

There's a few things I want in that aren't in yet, such as random race select for AI , but that's being added in the first major patch. Also, there's plans to add a lot of stuff down the road in DLC/expansions to expand the game. (It's going to be legit expansion, not nickel-and-dime stuff)

I'd say GalCiv as a series with 3 replaces Civ as king as of the 4X jungle, for hardcore 4X players. Stardock did a really great job making this game what longtime GalCiv fans wanted.

They've got Sorcerer King upcoming as well, which is also a great game, but it's very different and is a slightly more casual, non-traditional 4X.

I loved Galciv 2, but after Demigod and all the various iterations of Elemental there's no way I could risk another day 1 purchase from Stardock. Elemental never got to the point where it was actually fun, and I've never seen a game launch so bugged and flawed.

They made it fun with Sorcerer King. Also, this is on a new engine- the engine trouble Stardock had with Elemental doesn't apply to GalCiv.

The DLC is purely cosmetic, just some cool extra parts to use to build ships. But apparently they won't release them later on, it's now or never.

At the same time, modding is coming, so you'll get plenty fo ship parts that way, and future DLC will, I'm sure, also contain more ship parts, so it's not really a big deal.

Yep. It definitely will for me. Finally installing Civ V for now ;) I figure this will be my main go to 4X until Civ VI comes out.
