Crimson Heads in REmake are a special kind of annoying. They are annoying, but in a good way. I was afraid to kill zombies fearing I wouldn't be able to headshot them. And whenever I had to deal with one, I was terrified by it. They made the game incredibly tense, and the lack of Crimson Heads in RE2 and beyond was both a relief... and a constant reminder that something was missing.

Hang on RE 2 came out before REmake... Or did you play them in that order? :)

Crimson Heads were indeed brilliantly annoying though.

There were so many frustrating enemies in Lost Odyssey though. Groups of enemies anyway.

I started to actively hate Alan Wake once objects in the environment started lifting off the ground and flying at me. So fucking lame.

Rhenoplos in Monster Hunter. One second you'll be wailing on a monster, the next BLAM! You're sent flying across the map.

Oh are you trying to take down that monster FUCK YOU I'M RHENOPLOS!

And those stupid little Konchu too.

Crystal lizards in Dark Souls 2. Killing these guys from point blank range is a hit or miss proposition and can be very frustrating.

You can't run from it, and it'll most likely kill at least one of your pokemon unless you spend the time either killing it with poison/burn or PP stalling it.

These floaty gargoyle things from Zelda 2. They follow a simple oscillating pattern, but spawn infinitely and depending on the layout of the room they can be a complete nightmare to get through. Hateful.

Maggots/Larvae in Bloodborne. Way more difficult to fight than they should be because of the camera spazzing out. They hit far harder than you would think, too.

Frenzy Heads in Bloodborne. Because Frenzy is fucking bullshit.

I know it's already been said, but Zubat. My number one hated enemy from my childhood. I don't want to know how many I've run into after six generations of Pokemon games. >.< JUST TRYING TO GET OUT OF THE CAVE, OKAY?

Oh look... a treasure... WRONG! Instead it's death.
The worst part is,there is no escape. They are waiting for you in almost every RPG and even some non-rpg's.

Flood pure forms in Halo 3. Cortana was a terrible level anyway, but these...

...were bullshit, parking on walls and hitting you from across the room.

And they could transform to either that ranged fucker, a hulk that could kill you in one hit, and agile forms that can run on walls and ceilings. Bastards.

Nice, a whole thread full of "Here's a picture of something I hate. You already know what it is and where it's from, obviously."

The only reason they're annoying, and the key to avoid dying when shot, is that you fall the opposite way that you're facing. So face forward and in line with the ledge and you survive being hit. Essentially, better programming would make that area so much easier.

I feel "better" programming is subjective. Anything making that section easier removes one of the most iconic sections of any video game ever for me. In a real world logical sense it is ridiculous, but in a "punishing you for wall hugging" sense its perfect. That section is at its easiest when you boldly charge forward, and doing any sort of turtling is severely punished. It's great.

You can also reverse image search or ask if you want to know.
Though nonstop threads with [Name of the character] from [game people already know] and a picture below get a bit tiresome.

It wouldn't be better programming, always knowing how you'll take a hit is very useful. That bit is designed specifically to force people to walk forward instead of hugging the wall like in the gif. It's the exact thing that moment is trying to subvert. You need to walk exactly forwards but you're afraid of doing it.

Welp, beaten to the punch. Goddamnit.

So the message I'm getting from this thread is that the next Soulsborne game needs Bonewheel Brainsuckers.

Playing Metro 2033 on PS4 right now and the Nosalis are pretty irritating. Their attacks do little damage, but they can keep hitting you really fast. They also have lunges which are hard to avoid as the spaces you fight them in are usually small. I think Metro would benefit from a sidestep/dodge. It gets pretty annoying when being ganged up on and having your vision and movement all kinds of wack because you have 5 of these guys up your butt. My usual strategy in this game is to find a corner, but the game likes to throw a lot of enemies at you for a period of time so sometimes doing that can also get you killed as you basically become trapped.

small flying things seem to be the prevailing theme

yup - anything small that flies in an unpredictable manner in an fps just makes me want to uninstall / eject / destroy the game.

drones from H2 came to mind immediately [as have already been mentioned], and i don't even want to think of more examples - it will just make me angry and uninstall windows as i type this...

Grave Digger in RE3 Nemesis.
I'm currently playing this game again on my vita and this boss fight just sucks on hard.
Seriously, what the hell?

Those Parana things in Ninja Gaiden. You're a fish, why are you even floating in the air?! Still, it's fun to go nuts on those little fuckers with the Vigoorian Flail.

As if there is anything else you can do but hug the wall on a ledge only big enough to barely fit your character? Even boldly charging forward with swords-a-swinging can end up with you swinging yourself off the ledge by accident, rolling off the edge on accident, or simply getting bumped off by a sword attack. It punishes you regardless of how you play it. It's an iconic section, but not because it's good or well made.
